DIVINE INFORMATION PART 100
Respected friends, In part 100 I am starting with 344th item in thisposting. Kindly note the series is acompilation. Sincerely, Gopala Krishnan 18-09-21 344 DHRUVA Uttanapada, son of Svayambhuva Manu and Satarupa, engagedhimself in rulership. Dhruva was born of his first wife Suniti. Uttama was the son of his second wifeSurichi. Uttanapada was moreattracted to Surichi to the neglect of Suniti. One day King Uttanapada wasfondling Uttama, holding him on his lap, when Dhruva, five years of age, arrived and sought toshare his fathers lap with Uttama. The king, for fear of Surichi, was indifferent to Dhruva. The proud Surichi said the following to Dhruva with jealousy and to the hearing of the king: Forthe reason of your not being born ofme, you are undeservingof attaining to the kings position (lap). As you are aspiring for what is not in your lot, you area tender child. If you desire Nrupasanam (kings seat), you have to, by the worship of god, seek birth in mywomb. Pierced by these cruel words and hissing like an angryserpent hit by a stick, Dhruva movedout of the presence of the king, who was reticent. Suniti heard of these proceedings from the residents of theinner apartments and took theinconsolably crying, sobbing and trembling Dhruva on her lap. She herselfwilted as if before a fire and sighed. She said to Dhruva: Child, remember one truth, viz. When one wishes ordoes ill to others, that ill rebounds on the wisher/doer. So never retaliate. You are born to me, whom the king shuns, even as a handmaid. Surich’s words are true. Being the wife of your father, even the stepmotheris on a par with your own mother. Thus you adopt what she said withoutagitation or hatred. Worship the Supreme Lord if you wish to ascend the kings seat(lap). Brahma and your owngrandfather, Svayambhuva Manu attained to their exalted status by worshippingthe Lord. Install the Supreme Lord in your mind purified byadherence to Svadharmam and concentration. I see none else who can bring yousolace. Convinced by his mothers guidance and firming up his mind,Dhruva left the city. Sage Narada, byyogic merit, perceived Dhruvas resolve and wondered as to how sensitive is a Kshatriya to his honor. He appeared before Dhruva, placed his sanctifyinghand on his head and said: For a child of your age, toys shouldbe the attraction and not reaction to honor or dishonor, which ensues from Karma. Wise men feel content with whatever falls to theirlot as the Lords will. The goal advised byyour mother and to which you have set yourself, is indeed arduous even for yogis. So, give up this pursuit as futile, fit to be resorted to at theappropriate phase of life. Whoever abides by pleasure and pain as God-ordains, attainsliberation. One should adopt kindness and not jealousy towards superiorones, pity those who are inferiorand be friendly to those of equal virtues. This temperament secures tranquility. Dhruva responded: That path topeace, as expounded by you, is lost on me, who am of kshatriya stock, which resistsinsults and is not prone to modesty. The cruel shafts in the form of my stepmothers insult are piercing my heart and therefore I am notreceptive to your advice. So, O great one! Guide me to the path of ancestors and others. Yourself, mind-born of Brahma,go about the universe for its well-being just as the Sun-God does. The pleased Narada toldDhruva: The path spokenof by your own mother will lead to fulfillment of your goal. Worship the Lordwith dedication. For, whoever aspires for Dharmam, Artham (wealth), Kamam andMoksham, the worship of the Lords Feetis the only means. All good betide you. Proceed to holy Madhuvana on the banks of the Yamuna where God ever resides. Bathing in the holy Yamuna at the three Sandyas (morning, noon and evening), duly honoring thedeities by Namaskara and the like,Preparing the spot (to stand erect),Performingthe three kinds of Pranayama for thepurification of Prana, mind and senses,Meditate on God, who is ever responsive with Grace, with mindfirmly fixed and picturing: His face and eyes are ever serene and lustrous, nose shapely,eye-brows and cheeks charming, with acharm, which is dazzling even to the devas, Of youthful phase, Handsome with rosy lips, Affording succor to allsuppliants, Refuge of all devotees, Ocean of compassion, Distinguished by the mark of Srivatsa(Maru),Complexion of rain cloud, Replete with the grace and charm of human form,WearingVanamala garland,Four armsglittering with Sanka, Chakra, Gadha and Padmam,Wearing crown, ear-rings, bracelets and arm-bands,anklets,Kaustuba (gem) adorning His neck,Robed in golden hued garments secured by Oddyanam (waist band),Feet resplendent with ruby-like nails,The unstinting charm showering bliss on all,Smiling countenanceand loving looks, instant bestowed of boons, Beaming with radiatingbenevolence. The mind of the devotee contemplating thus on the auspiciousform of the Lord will soon be filledwith a bliss that ever sustains. Now, O prince, hear theMantra that is both sacred and secret and that is to be repeated in the worship of the Lord.By chanting it continuously for seven days, a man will be blessed withthe Divine Vision (see God). Thedevotee, with a proper perception of time and place, should chant this Mantraof twelve letters (Dwadhasakshari) : Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya (Salutations to Bhagavan Vasudeva ). The Lord should be worshipped with pure water, flowers, roots, fruits, Tulasi leaves, andclothes. An image should be made of stone (or even earth) or other metals, andwith mind and speech under control, sustaining oneself on the produce of the forest (roots and fruits), with senses subdued, invoking God on theimage (meditating) , worship should bemade. Meditation should centre on the sports of God in His incarnations. The various steps of worship(Upacharam) should be done to theaccompaniment of the Dwadasaksharaa Mantra. Worshipped thus, the Lord, who enhances devotion in Hissincere worshippers, fulfills theiraspirations, including liberation as the case may be. After thus initiated,Dhruva circumambulated Sage Narada and proceeded toMadhuvana, hallowed by the feet of God. Narada went to Uttanapada and enquired: With ashrunken face, what is the thought youare deeply engrossed in Are all well with you The king responded: O Brahman, myson, at the tender age of just five years, learned, virtuous; that son, along with his mother, due to my infatuation with feminine pull, uncompassionate, who I am, has been chased out (by me). O Brahman! Orphaned, haggard, ground-borne due to hunger, with jaded countenance, will henot fall prey to wolves Alas! Look at my perfidy! Won over by woman, with love leaping to my lap, him I did not receive! Aho Me batha dhowratmyam streejitah upadharaya. Yonkampremna Aarurukshantham,Naabhyanandanasatta mah.(Naabhyanan dam did not countenance (4-8-67). Narada replied: Whose glory extends throughout the universe, who is god-protected, about him yoursorrow is unfounded. Achieving the goal unattainable even to the guardians ofthe quarters (Lokapalas), your son willreturn soon, enhancing your fame. The king, however, continued to be ever dwelling on his son, to the neglect of his kingdom.
