VERSION

1 The Kaveri Purana or Kaveri Mahatmya describes the sacred river from its
source to its union with the sea and enumerates the holy bathing places and
the temples on its banks. The Kaveri Purana seeks to glorify the holy
river, whose divine origin, its intimate relationship with the rishi
Agastya (the settler of the Vindhya Mountain range, the great son of both
Mitra and Varuna), and its course through the eastern country into the sea
being directed in obedience to the counsel of Agastya, all conspire to give
it a character of surpassing sanctity. The account of Kaveri’s mythological
origin begins with the seizure by the Asuras, of the amrita or nectar of
immortality produced at the churning of the ocean, which spread
consternation and despair among the hosts of the gods. They invoked Vishnu,
from whom emanated the enchanting Mohini, while Lakshmi at the same time
sent forth Lopamudre (a form of Parvati). Mohini, charming the Asuras by
her transcendent beauty, rescued the drink of immortality and restored it
to gods. After this she retired to Brahmagiri, the hill at the source of
the river Kaveri, and was changed into a rocky cave. Lopamudre was given to
Brahma, who brought her up as his daughter. *Kavera muni,* a devout
follower of Brahma, retires to Brahmagiri, there to give himself wholly to
meditation on Brahma. He asks Brahma for children. *Brahma gives him
Lopamudre for a daughter, this is when she obtained the name Kaveri.* In
order to procure beatitude for her new father, she resolves on becoming a
river, pouring out blessings on the earth, and all the merits arising from
this course of devoted goodness are to be appropriated to Kavera muni. For
this purpose she resorts to one of the heights ot Brahmagiri, and invokes
Brahma to give her the privilege, when turned into a river, of absolving
all people bathing in the holy waters from every sin they may have
committed. Brahma, of course grants this blessing to his daughter While
Kaveri is still absorbed in her devotions, the great rishi Agastya espies
her, and asks her to become his wife. Though longing after the fulfilment
of her vow, she consents to live with Agastya, under the condition,
however, that she shall be at liberty to forsake him whenever she is left
alone. One day Agastya went to bathe in the river Kanake, leaving Kaveri
near his own holy tank, guarded by his disciples. Thus deserted by Agastya
against his promise, she plunged into the holy tank, and flowed forth from
it a beautiful river. The disciples tried to stay her course. She went
underground. At Bhaganda kshetra she appeared again and flowed on towards
Valamburi. When Agastya, on his return, saw what had happened, he ran after
Kaveri, begged her pardon, and entreated her to return and to remain with
him. Unwilling to change her mind, yet loathing to grieve Agastya, Kaveri
divided herself, one half flowing off as a river, the other half staying
with the rishi. Agastya then explained to the river half which road to take
to the eastern sea, enumerating all the holy places lying in the way of the
new stream. {Source: Mysore and Coorg, Vol. III by Lewis Rice}.
1A Tamil Silappadikaram says that KA means a Garden and VIRI means
spread, viz Gardens on both sides of the river expanding the running paths

2       Incidentally a marriage mantra of Rg vedam  is cited which is true;
but the significance is lost as the essence of the chap 10 85 verses 1 to
47 is lost which would give the brightest focus on our scientific nature
of the Rishis is reciting a verse with the plentiful of meaning adopting an
allegory.
In these verses (incidentally used by our purohit in all our
weddings a couple verses only) The movement of the SUN and the MOON and
EARTH and the Ashwini health doctors of GODs are all combined looking at
the space. SUN is the bride; Moon is the bride groom; Aswini wives of the
Moon come to earth The Father (PUSHAN) { sun is also denoted as PUSHAN);
(KoREA has as capital PUSAN} { PUSAN is also the name of research on
finding the truth odf Big bang} is met by Ashwin asking the hands of the
bride SUN to be wedded to the Moon. Then the sky dances narrated in a sway
of the words used in these 47 verses the planetray movement; therefore
these became the wedding mantra too.
The aśvins, or divine twins, arrive at the home of Sūryā ,as
representatives of the moon, with a proposal from him. Pūṣan, seemingly the
sun, that is, the father of the prospective bride, as well as others, agree
to this proposal -

*Aśvins, when you came on your three-wheeler to ask for the hand of Sūrya
in marriage, Then all the gods gave you consent; the Sun, a son, chose you
to be fathers.*

*[Ṛg Veda 10.85:14;]*

Based on such assent, Sūryā herself is sent to her new home with Soma, the
moon. She is accompanied in this journey by her two female friends -

*Raibhī was the bridesmaid; Nārāśaṃsī was her maidservant*

*[Ṛg Veda 10.85:6ab; ]*

They make the journey in a cosmic chariot of highly symbolic imagery, which
develops the analogy between the movements of heavenly bodies and of human
rituals and customs -

*Mind was her vehicle; the heaven was her covering; The two bright ones
were the oxen, when Sūryā went to her [new] home Those two oxen moved
calmly, harnessed by the Ṛg and Sāma [verses]. Hearing [the Veda] was your
two wheels; your path in heaven was leading you forward*

*[Ṛg Veda 10.85:10–11; ]*

Sūryā now arrives at the house and there is a touching picture of the
comfortable domesticity of the Vedic household -

*Go to [your new] home, to be the lady of the house; Speak out with
authority at the vidatha [gathering]; Prosper here, loved [and] with
children; In your home, watch over the household; Join yourself with this
husband; You will address the vidatha even when you are old*

*[Ṛg Veda 10.85:26cd-27;]*

Following this, the marriage is consummated, during which the virginity of
the bride is established, which seemingly confirms the validity of the
marriage, and gifts are given to Brahmins. The verse ends with an
exhortation to the bride to be gentle towards her husband, and a request
for a blessing by the happy couple.

*Without evil eye, without striking [your] husband, be kind to the cattle,
With positive mindset and positive energy, Giving birth to heroes, loving
the gods, gentle, Be good to the two-footed and to the four-footed.*

*May all the gods, and also the waters, put together our two hearts. May
Mātariśvan, Dhātṛ, and Deṣṭrī support the two of us.*

*[Ṛg Veda 10.85:44,47;]*

These extracted lines in these 47 verses show the sun moon and Pushan and
so many.
This is highlighted in Isopanishad as under:
पूषा तवेतो नयतु हस्तग्र्ह्याश्विना तवा पर वहतांरथेन | गर्हान गछ गर्हपत्नी
यथासो वशिनी तवंविदथमा वदासि ||

The Ashwini twins are the physicians of the Gods. They are said to have
sprung from the sea-of-milk in Vaikunta, when it was churned by the Devas
and Asuras. Some time after this, they earned the displeasure of Indra, who
forbade them from partaking Havis, the sacrificial oblations.

In the Rig Veda, the are prominently featured, and are said to be the sons
of Saranyu (the daughter of Tvashta) and Vivasvant. They are also said to
be the sons of heaven (Dyaus). Pusan is said to be their son. According to
the wedding hymn [R.V.10.85], they are the husbands of Surya, the daughter
of the sun. They are fond of honey, and their car is honey-hued and
honey-bearing. Their car is sun-like and is golden. It is swifter than
thought and was fashioned by the three divine artificers, the Rbhus. It is
either drawn by horses or by winged steeds or by buffaloes, or by a
Rishabha (ox). They are associated with Usha (dawn), and are said to follow
her in their car. Reference is also often made to their great speed.

They are also the fathers of the Pandava twins, Nakula and Sahadeva, whom
they begat on Madri, King Pandu's wife. Since the Ashwinis are associated
with horses, the Pandava twins were excellent horsemen.

And thus rishis evolved Ashwin as the messengers of the prosperity
in the fine rotations of the earth, Sun, and the Moon is such a manner it
is prosperous to the human beings.

And the co-relations can be seen from another shiva purana and
Upanishads texts as under relevant of the descriptions of the Rgvedam
The combined ereading would enhance the value of the Rigvedam K R IRS 71021
