Q1           Was Pakistan a developed country inthe 1960s?

A1           AhmadAbubakr Lives in Pakistan Sep 17

I assume that the questionrefers to the era of Ayub Khan’s rule. An era that is
often described as an almost golden age for Pakistan. During the eraof Ayub
Khan, Pakistan was doing quite well economically and rapidly growing. It was
also Pakistan’s greatest era, in terms of development andinfrastructure.
Pakistan was actually performing quite well on most parametersfor developing
nations.

But, no. Pakistan wasnowhere even close to the level of a developed nation in
the 1960s. Nor has it ever been. Pakistan has always beena developing country.
It was just a developing nation that was doing well andshowed great potential.

However, all of that was sacrificed by Pakistan. All for ashot at taking
Kashmir with Operation Gibraltar, which ended up resulting inthe Indo-Pak War
of 1965. It all just went downhill after the war. All of theeconomic gains and
growth was sacrificed in hopes of the small chance thatPakistan would make
military gains in Kashmir.

But that didn’t work out too well for Ayub Khan or Pakistan. For Ayub, it marked
an end to his reign. He lost all support due to the poor outcome of the war.
Thewar also set Pakistan back by decades. It also kind of made thesplit between
East and West Pakistan inevitable.

Q2           Should you turn off water when notusing a washing machine?

A2           2 Answers Vink B Quan , former Retired Mechanical Engineerat
General Motors (1981-2012)Answered Dec 11, 2020

No, you should not turn off the water supply faucets afterthe washing machine
stops washing, rinsing and spinning dry. The washing machinehas an automatic
programmed unit or the control center to open the valves orshut off the valves
to let the hot or cold water in after the sensor hasweighed the load of clothes
that you just put in the drum to be washed. If youturn off the water faucets,
sometimes you forget to turn them back on afterloading your clothes and you
have started the washing machine a few minutesearlier, the clock or timer will
start running but no water, your washing machine will not run and the cycles
and theprogram setting up will be running in the wrong order, the water won’t
bedrained or the washer will be working abnormally. Don’t turn off the
waterfaucet supplies, after having finished washing, leave those two hot and
coldfaucets alone, the solenoid has turned off the water supplies. However, if
youare going on vacation for a long time and nobody will be in the house,
youshould turn off the water supplies of the washing machine and those of
thetoilets too to avoid an water supply hoses rupture, breaking or leaking.

When not using the washing machine you have to switch OFF thepower supply.

Regarding water inlet periodically you have to ensure, wateris freely coming. I
had an occasion, washing machine not working. Finally itwas traced to water not
coming. There was corrosion in the pipe and water wasleast coming.

Q5           Is 2.5 Sq. mm 3 Core wire enough formy washing machine?

A5           JasonVaughan, UK Qualified Electrician, 2330Answered May 25, 2017

What is the load? What voltage are you using? If your washingmachine is say
2,000W and you are using 230V, then the current (Amps) is 8.6.If, however, you
are using 110v, then the current is 18A.

More importantly, what is the rating pin the fuse for thatcircuit? If you have
a fuse in the plug (13A), 2.5 mm is absolutely fine. However, if you are
connected directly into a 32A circuit, then 2.5 is notsufficient.

What I am trying to illustrate is the fact that there is nota simple answer to
this. If you are not sure, consult a qualified electrician. If you get it wrong,
you could end up killing yourself or someone else.

To prevent moisture damage to your bathroom.

If you take a hot shower, the bathroom fills with very moistair. It can take a
while for your air conditioner to circulate the moisture outof there and reduce
it to normal levels.

Meanwhile, that moisture is getting into your sheetrock andcreating the
conditions for mold to thrive.

The problem isn’t so bad if you take cold showers, but still, you don’t want any
part of your home to be constantly damp. Mold in the wallscan be
life-threatening.

Q9           What's the difference between asplitting axe and a splitting maul?

A9           JonathanGraifer B.A History, English Lit. in History & English
Literature, HoodCollege (Graduated 2020)Oct 10

Axe on the left, splitting maul on the right.

An axe is meant to cut; it severs the fibers of the wood, andtherefore is
relatively light, thin, and very very sharp.

A splitting maul is basically a modified sledgehammer;comparatively heavy, with
a much beefier blade that is generally *not* actuallysharp. It's less of a
blade than it is a wedge, using the force of the swing tosplit a cut piece of
wood along the grain, *between* the fibers.

Q10         What are the disadvantages of trams?

A10         StevenHaddock LL.B. degree, 25 years in litigation, administrative
law, collections, bankrupty and professional regulation Oct 19

Well, they can only run on tracks. No track, no trams. Thismakes it expensive
if you want to make even minor changes in the routes, andrequires re-routing if
you make repairs.

Here in Toronto, you often see buses running where streetcarswere. That “501
Church” bus is actually a streetcar route so passengers on theroute often have
to change between streetcars and buses to avoid repairs.

Second, the electric wires are butt ugly

College Street and Spadina Avenue in Toronto. All thatoverhead stuff is for the
two streetcar lines that run on each street. Havinglines also makes working
with heavy equipment on the street hazardous.

Third, streetcars aren’t the best on hills

This is an old picture, but the streetcar tracks still exist. They’re on
Bathurst Street and run between Bloor Street (which has a subway)and St. Clair
Avenue (which has a streetcar with right of way). It’s only a 2kmstretch, but
it’s a steep hill on an ancient shoreline. In recent tests, thenew trams, which
have to be able to climb this hill in an emergency (there’s noregular service,
but it’s the only link between St. Clair and the rest of thenetwork) and one
model failed the test. Profile photo for Subramaniam Duraisamy

Q11         Is Karnataka rich because of Bengaluru?

A11         SubramaniamDuraisamy IT Analyst Oct 17

Yes. Karnataka is richbecause of Bengaluru. But the same can be said for all
other States of India as well.

Take out KCT region [Kanchipuram, Chennai and Tiruvallur]which has GDP of 5
Trillion Rupees and the rest of TN would have a GDP of just17 Trillion INR. To
put it in context- GDP of TN sans the KCT region is equalto the GDP of whole of
UP [Ouch- that hurt…:)].

Also the bulk of automobile factories, IT industries, andstart-ups along with
the premier Universities like Anna University, MIT, MadrasUniversity associated
with Chennai. Apart from GDP, other critical factors likeMPI, HDI and Literacy
rates of the state would take a beating. Not to mentionexport revenues.

Without Mumbai, the restof Maharahstra would be leading in farmer suicides,
food shortages and unemployment. The state would loseout on its premier
colleges, manufacturing and the revenue from cine industry. Not to mention
losing out critical ports whose money helps in feeding the restof the State.

Without Hyderabad, therest of Telangana would get screwed up in its finances.
The revenue from pharma companies, IT start-ups andother manufacturing
companies would be lost out.In the same way- Bengalurucontributes to major
share of Karnataka’s economy and industry.

Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad are called “Capitalcities” for a reason.
The word “capital” means “head” or “summit” in Latin, andmost likely capital
cities are the summit or head of the Government, but alsomost of the education
centres, economic activity, and hubs of employment. Theyare critical to the
finances of the rest of the region.

While we must push for more cities to reduce the burden onbigger cities and
achieve parity across the region, we must never underestimatethe importance of
a capital city in pullling a region out of poverty. Icon forMysterious Universe

Earth is always falling towards the Sun but the Earth have angular momentum
orsideways momentum with respect to the Sun which causes Earth to orbit the Sun.

Q13         Willa cruise ship sink if all machines are turned off while sailing?

A13         James AbbgyFormer Shipboard IT at Royal Caribbean (2016–2021)Tue

Yes. Eventually.

Even if no maintenance were to take place, the process wouldtake years.
Condensationmakes its way down. You’d be surprised at how much condensation
collects in thedepths of a massive ship. But of course, the ship is massive,
andthis condensation will only do so much in comparison to the immense amount
ofreserve buoyancy present.

Wind and rain will play apart, introducing even more water, and hastening
decay. Inch by inch, the ship will sit lower and lower inthe water. Storms will
stress the hull. Paint will chip and peel. The baremetal of the hull will
eventually be exposed, and rust will begin its work.

Storms will pass, stressing the hull. Water will find tiny cracks and worn
seals. Eventually, theship will succumb.Either to thousands of tiny wounds, or
a sufficiently large storm. Or,depending on where it was when abandoned, it
will eventually be driven by windand currents into the land or on to rocks.

(A deliberate beaching, but you get the idea.)

But remember, we’retalking about years. If power is lost, the ship is in no
immediate danger.

There are, of course, scenarios where a loss of powercontributes to an already
bad situation. That’s what happened to Viking Sky acouple years ago. In a
storm, near shore, a power loss could quite quickly putthe ship at risk. But
the loss of power to systems like pumps would not put theship in imminent
danger of sinking.
