Q1 Howdoes Earth travel without any fuel or any source of energy? What makes itmove/rotate? A1 SanthoshSaravanan Updated Oct 27 Well, There is somephenomena that need to be figured out, If you want to know how earth travelswithout any fuel around sun. 1)Inertia 2) 4th dimension 3)Gravity asforce and gravity as field.4)Centripetal force. First of all theplanets are created by nuclear fission according to big bang theory. The nuclerfission leads to the straight line motion of the planets. Inertia - The inability of a mass to change its state ofrest or uniform motion. Imagine if there is no sun.Since there is not externalforce in space when planets are disappeared,Earth will tend to move in astraight line. Gravity as force - According to Newton's law ofgravitation, gravitational force is a attractive force exerted between 2 massesseperated by a distance. By that gravity is directly proportional to the mass.Since both the earth and sun have greater mass they are attracted towards eachother. Gravity as field and 4th D According toEinstein's theory of relativity, space is nothing but a fabric like thing whereit bends the time and if a large mass(sun) is placed on this fabric it bendsthat fabric. Right? And when you place a smaller mass(earth) on the fabric, thesmaller mass will automatically moves towards the greater mass. This is calledas gravity as field. Now coming to the question, since gravity is apulling force / pulling field,Earth should be attracted towards the sun andcollide but since the earth moves horizontally with some velocity due toinertia earth won't be pulled by the sun. Now both the motion due to gravityand inertia add up and it will result in Circular motion. A simple example, Imagine a stone that is tied tothe rope and you rotate it. The stone will be in Circular motion. But when therope is cut suddenly, the stone will move in horizontal direction. The samephenomena is applied here.though the earth wants to move straight, due togravity the earth revolves the sun with no fuel. Q2 Whatwill be our electricity bill after using 1.5 ton air conditioner when consumedfor 6 hours a day? A2 3Answers Gopala Krishnan, former Assistant GeneralManager 1996-2004 at Department of Telecom (1966-2004)Answered just now I am using 1.5 tonsSamsung air conditioner in my bed room. Keeping temperature setting to 24degrees. Normally we switch on the unit by 9PM and switch off by 6 AM. I havetaken meter readings on many days at 9PM and 6 AM after switching off the unit.I have observed power consumption between 10 and 11 units. I am in Chennai,India, night temperature is above 34 degrees in summer 2ND ANSWER-Pradip Dighole, B.E. MechanicalEngineering, Babasaheb Naik College of Engineering, Pusad (2016)Answered Apr25, 2017 In case of BlueStar AC, 1TR consume 0.8 to 1.2kW per hour. We consider the maximum value. So for 1.5TR, theelectricity consumption is 1.8kW per hour (1.2*1.5). If you are going toused it for 6 hours per day then, 6*1.8 equal to10.8kW per day. Please go through the electricity bill per kW. Q3 Whydo the oceans never get much above 30C (86F) in spite of millions of years ofrelentless solar radiation? As they comprise 72% of the Earth’s surface why arewe worried about warming? A3 MikeMiller Oct 27 There are severalreasons: The oceans spendabout half of Earth’s rotational period facing deep space. This period, knownas “night,” gives landand sea a good chance to cool off by infrared radiation into space. Ocean waterevaporates, carrying heat away to be released at high altitudes. Sunlight doesn’t fall evenly across the oceans.Higher latitudes get so little sunlight that their heat balance is negative, cooling off to the point that water can freeze. Sunlight doesn’t fall evenly on Earth during the year.Due to Earth’s tilt, part of the year is spent with a given hemisphere at lowangles to the sun. Known as “winter,” this again results in the oceans sheddingheat faster than they gain it. The cold watercirculates into other locations of the ocean thanks to grand oceanic currents. As they comprise 72% of the Earth’s surface why are weworried about warming? Because Earth’satmospheric composition is being altered to a mix of gases that do a better jobof retaining heat. Accordingly, the ocean is retaining heat better, too. Q4 Didpassenger airplanes drop their water waste in mid-air? A4 SubhadeepPaul Oct 30 Short answer: Water, yes. Waste, no. Let's talk aboutAirbus A320, an aircraft with which I’m little familiar. When you flush yourstuff down the toilet, it enters the waste management system of the A320. Atthis point, the system checks aircraft's current altitude. When flying at cruise altitudes (33,000 - 36,000 feet),the air pressure outside the aircraft is pretty low compared to inside. Theflush pipe is connected to a pipe outside the aircraft which generates apressure differential, thussucking the waste from the toilet. In case you use thetoilet on ground when there is no difference in air pressure outside &inside to suck the waste, a vacuum generator is used to vacuum flush thetoilet. Through meters of piping & valves the waste isgathered into a 170 liter waste tank placed at aft/rear end of the aircraft. Basically yourwaste travels with you the entire journey. Once theaircraft lands on ground, the waste is offloaded through a large drain hose toa truck called Honey Truck (you know why itscalled Honey Truck) which takes the nasty stuff & drops it inthe city’s main waste disposal system. Water waste: Thepotable water system works independently of the waste system. Adifferent truck called a water service truck comes & refills the 200 literwater tank in the aircraft prior to take-off. This water is usedfor hand washing, coffee making, food preparation etc. Unlike thehuman waste, the water is drained outside the aircraft while it is flying midair as shown in picture below. Q5 Whatis the coolest psychological trick? A5 VishuSony I hit the nail on the head Updated Oct 28 Few years back, Iwas tricked into attending a MLM seminar hosted by an acquaintance. During the seminarthey followed the same jobvs business strategy, nothing seemed to be impressive. But wait, as weapproached towards the end he began to tell us about their schemes. He went on What if I tell youthat you can earn 20–30k per month after investing 100k? Isn't it great? Let's just reducethe amount to 70k, isn't that great? Let's reduce itmore ,say 50k. You know what, let's just reduce it to 30k No, it should beless. It's 20k , yeah full and final. You noticed amountseems petty though it's not. This is what we call as contrast. For example, if youneed a change of 500, offer the shopkeeper a higher denomination first let'ssay 2k.When shopkeeper hesitates , offer him the one you actually wanted, andhe'll happily do it.Simply put, it's like making a line shorter . Q5 Whatdo you know that most people don’t? A5 Dilki Dissanayake Nov 1 01.Taste is influenced by colour. Scientists havefound that hot chocolate tastes better in an orange cup. 02.Some people have a "natural alarm clock"allowing them to awake, when they want. This is actually caused by a naturalstress hormone. 03.Depression can cause you to dream up to 3 to 4times, than you normally would. 04.Blind people smile despite never seeing anyonesmile before, because it's a natural human reaction. 05.The human sigh acts as a physiological resetbutton. 06.People tend tobecome silent when angry, in order to prevent an argument. 07.We naturally and unconsciously mimic the non-verbalbehaviour of those whom we interact. Q6 Whydo spiders always hang around toilets? A6 KenSaladinFormer professor of animal behaviorOct 31 They don’t. Most spiders gonowhere near toilets, and even species that do, don’t “always” or even most ofthe time hang out there. Spiders are attracted to outdoor latrines like outhouses,or to unclean toilets, though, because exposed waste attracts flies and makesuch toilets a place where spiders have a good chance of catching them. Q7 Whatis the difference between a front load and a top load? A7 GopalaKrishnan, former Assistant General Manager 1996-2004at Department of Telecom (1966-2004) Differences betweenthe Front Load and Top Load Washing Machine Last Update date : Oct 12. 2020 by Samsung Choosing between a top load and front loadwashing machine can be a very personal choice. You should make your selectionbased on the following performance factors: 1- Which is easier to use? Top-loading washersare normally more convenient since you don’t have to bend over to load andunload clothes. For older buyers or those with joint issues, top-loadingwashers typically stand at an ideal height to save the trouble of bending down.To mitigate this issue with front loaders we recommend installing the units onlaundry pedestals that raise the units about 12-15". Top loaders alsohave other convenient qualities, such as the ability to add clothes inmid-cycle, or even right after starting the cycle. Top-loading washers can alsocollect lint and distribute fabric softener better than front-loading washingmachines can.Winner: Top-Load Washers 2- How quickly do they wash? Note that not alltop loaders are same. Today, there are two main types of top-loading washingmachines, one that has an agitator and one that does not. An agitator is amechanism within a washer that creates motion by shaking and forcing waterthrough the machine, leading to a vibrating washing machine. Top-loadingwashing machines with agitators typically wash quicker, but top-loading washingmachines without agitators (known as high-efficiency top load washing machine)clean better, can clean more clothes at once, and use less water. As such, HE(high-efficiency) washing machines cost more.Winner: Top-Load Washers 3- Which cleans better? Despite beingeasier on your back, top-loading washers can also be rougher on clothes, especially if the machine is overloaded. Front loaders are much gentler withclothes. Top-loaders also have a difficult time washing larger items, such aspillows or comforters, as they won’t fully immerse in the water.Winner:Front-Load Washers 4- Price? Front-loadingwashers are typically more expensive, but justifiably so. They give a morequality clean and tend to be more energy and water efficient than top loaders. In addition, thefront load washers pack more wash features to accommodate all fabric types andsoil levels. Moreover, front loaders are far more quiet than top loaders thanksto their more advanced motors and suspension systems. Although theupfront cost of a front loader is generally more, we think over the long runyour total expenses will even out.Winner: Draw 5- Which uses less water? Front-loadingwashing machines use less water and electricity than the average top-loadingwashing machine. An efficient front-loading washer can help better sustain ourenvironment.Winner: Front-Load Washers 6- Installation Flexibility Front-loadingwashing machines have the ability to be stacked with a dryer. When these twoappliances are stacked, the space dedicated to laundry is contained to asmaller footprint in your home. There are twopopular reasons why people decide to go with a stacked washer-dryer layout. Thefirst is that they have no other choice. Many homes or rental units have theirlaundry sets located in small closets where vertical space is the only spaceavailable. But even those who have the space are opting to stack their laundryunits since it allows them more functional floor space that can be used foradditional cabinetry, storage or even left open. In many homes, space, among other details, tends to be a major deciding factor when choosing awasher and dryer.Winner: Front-Load Washers 7- Spin speed - How Well Does It Extract Water? During the finalspin cycle, front-loading washing machines generally spin about 33% faster thantypical top loaders, meaning that more water will be removed from the clothesbefore you transfer them to the dryer. This means yourclothes will dry faster in the dryer and will be less heavy to move between thetwo units. One drawback however is that the spin cycle causes manyfront-loading washers to vibrate, making noise that many people would ratheravoid. You can find thespin-speed of any washer in its specifications document measured by RPM's(revolutions per minute). Higher the RPM, higher the Spin quality.Winner:Front-Load Washers 8- The smell/mold issue One of the biggestcomplaints about front-loading washers is that over time mold can builduparound the door's rubber gasket. To combat this, front-loading washers requirea lot more maintenance than top-loading washers. We recommend placing thesewashers in an area with good airflow and keeping the door slightly ajar betweencycles to minimize issues with mold and mildew. Top-loading washingmachines don’t have this issue since they rely on gravity to pull water down,so water doesn’t get trapped in any seals.Winner: Top-Load Washers Conclusion Summary Comparison Factor Whichis easier to use? A9 2Answers Alfred Ekpenyong, former 2nd Engineer atPacific Drilling (2014-2020)Answered 4h ago AC filters couldlast long pending the location of the place store the equipment. The AC plant or theevaporator should be installed in the area free of dirty which the evaporatormay have suck the dirty or moisture to choke the filter. 2nd answer-Gopala Krishnan, former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at Department of Telecom (1966-2004) I am in Chennai-India. I have installed Samsung AC in 2006. Periodically the filter has to betaken out and washed. Filter is PVC. Still the filtering area it is so softlike a good cotton filter. For reason not known, it was torn in many placesafter three years. It was washed and used though torn. Filter of size out ofstock, after about 4 months, filters were brought and replaced. About six monthsback again in one of my AC filter is torn. Replacement is not done. Torn one iswashed and used now also. But I have one LGand one IFB AC units purchased in 2010 and 2015. No problem in filters. Both ofthese are rarely used. In summary-periodical cleaning of filters and AC units keep them last long. All the above QA are based on Quora QA on 06-10- 2021.
