PURSE

Dear friends,

One of the few items whose dimensions are not much changedis purse for gents.
The material for purse during olden days was leather. Nowwe have purses in
addition made using sponge leather, plastic and fiber.  A write up on purse.

Sincerely,

Gopalakrishnan 29-12-2021

1. Leather bagand purse.

Just like a combination, most business men and rich owneda leather bag had a
purse also in the same colour in my student days. On thosedays 90% leather bags
came in black colour. 10% was in brown colour and theyhad folders. Zip was not
there. Metallic closing with adjustment was there inpolished brass. Locking
arrangement was also there. One or two day’s luggagecould be carried in it.
Mostly it was used by college professors, business menand rich even in my
college days. The price was prohibitive even in my collegedays. Purse was
mostly in black colour. It had two folders and one pouch andprovision to keep
address. Brown colour too appeared later, but purse inleather was costly.

2. Plasticpurses.

With the appearance of plastic, plastic purses indifferent colors appeared.
This too had two folders, one pouch, and a sidearrangement to keep address.
Pouch was used to keep changes. Mostly when we went to purchasea purse, plastic
purse was shown. When we desired better quality merchantsshowed leather type
and Himalayan price was told. They pushed plastic purses.

3. Spongeleather purse.

Sponge leather purses appeared by 1970’s. It came inother colors also like
yellow, violet, green etc. They have more appearance comparingto plastic
purses. Often leather and sponge leather were confused, somemerchants used to
sell sponge leather as pure leather.

4. Zip andadditional folders.

Sponge leather purses and plastic purses started toappear with more folders.
They had zips.  Rarely with zips leather purses also appeared. But rare.

5. Provision ofadditional folders

By 1995’s Debit cards and credit cards startedappearing. Provision to keep them
appeared in purses.

 6 Student purses

Mostly student purses were plastic. Rarely in spongeleather. Merchant purses
had provision to keep a small notebook in the purse, sometimes it was stitched
to it.

7. Hand bags

Many started using small hand bags for journeys. Pursecontained small amount
and used in local trips.

8. Theft ofpurse

If the shirt was tucked inside pants, purse eitherkept in back pocket or side
pocket was liable for theft. Similarly in shirtpockets. As a remedy, in shirts
inner pockets and in pants also inner pocket (pocketwith in pocket) was
introduced in one side.   Purse wouldtightly go in inner pocket or inside
pocket.

9. Purse ascompliment

It is common to provide purse with money ascompliment. Leather purse is
complimented. The shops provide gift packs in an excellentcarton with finishing
outside. Without any further covering it can becomplimented

10 Ladiespurses

Ladies purses are mostly in fiber, plastic or specialfabric with inside PVC.
They come in different sizes, with one or two zips asdesired.  Mostly jewel
shops givecomplimentary purses to women. But inner zip arrangements in purse
are availablein those purchased from shops only

11. Pricedifference

The same quality of purse may vary in price indifferent shops. In bag shops a
leather purse costing 350-00 may cost 500-00 infancy stores and Rs. 1000-00 in
Bata shop.
