CULTURAL QA 01-2022-02 BEING A COMPILATION THERE MAY BE ERRORS
Q1 How are Chinese people slim evenwhen they eat rice so much? A1 Lucia Garcia Worked atHospitals Wed According to the survey, China's obesity rate is 7% in 2020, and China is one of the countrieswith the lowest obesity rate in the world. Rice is the staple food of China. Chinese people eat rice at every meal,7 days a week. The calories of cooked rice arenot high, 100 grams of cooked rice contains 115 calories. Eating rice will not gainweight. In contrast, Chinese people consume an average of 2970 calories per day, while Americans consume 3770 calories per day. Rice has high nutritional value. Rice contains essential carbohydrates, protein, insoluble fiber, fat, vitamin B1, niacin, vitamin C, and minerals suchas calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and iron. Cooked rice is easy to digestand absorb, and can provide the body with essential nutrients and energy everyday. Rice is a kind of "superfood", and more than 3 billion people in the world eat rice. Rice is a staple food in many countries, such as China, Japan, NorthKorea, South Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Philippines,Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, SriLanka and so on. Q2 How does propane on a gas stove notignite back to its source? A2 David Thomas ProfessionalEngineer, Civil, Alaska Tue Because you need flammable gas AND OXYGEN to ignite and before the mixingassembly, it’s only gas in the gas piping with no oxygenin there. But why doesn’t flame travel back from the burner to the mixing assembly(that tube on the right, below): Well, it does, occasionally, if things are poorly designed or operated or(often the case with an outdoor BBQ grill) have partially corroded away. But in a properly designed burner in good condition, those holes in the burner are too small for the flame to travel backwards, even with well-mixed air and gas coming out ofthem. “Flame arresters”consisting of a simple wire screen mesh are used on gasoline cans andthroughout industry to prevent a flame front from travelling through them. Those metal surfaces quench a flame front as the highly-energetic short-livedchemical fragments which transport energy from one combustion reaction to thenext are converted to more common, less-energetic compounds on that metalsurface. With small enough holes, enough of that energy is dampened out that aflame front can’t propagate. Q3 How would someone get electrocuted? A3 Sangram Sagar Tue Electricity will naturally flow to the ground. If we hold the cable without insulation, electricity will flow from the cable through our bodies full of water as aconductor to the ground. That's why birds that perch on electric cables are not electrocuted. Theydo not trace the ground. My note- A dry wooden plank, arubber insulayed footwear or a rubber sheet, would be a good insulator. Better switch of the supply and permitwork by an electrician. Even electrical linemennowadays switch off supply from transformer and work on electrical lines. Q4 Is it normal to have love for yourwife but still lean towards getting divorced? A4 Bhuvana Rameshwar marriedfor three decades 5h It doesn't seem normal. If youlove someone you don'tleave them. But sometimes the situation is such that it does happen. My husband's cousin now in his 70s was married to a college professor. They lived as a joint family in Chennai. His parents.. father a famous senioradvocate and mother employed in govt service didn't get along with the youngdil. She was a PG and was employed as a lecturer in her native city. Things got so bad that theydivorced. She took their baby son and moved back to Andhra Pradesh from Chennai. He loved her, she loved him yet the divorcehappened probably because of the over dominating mil. I knew the mil . She was my mil's sister. I detested her. I found her tooauthoritative as if she was a school principal handling students . She wasproud and had a superior attitude. She visited us often but her pulses didn't cook well with me. ( Tamizh,Indian idiom) The son soon got married again, migrated to the US. His next wife is alsoa good person. They have two sons. What makes it interesting for a divorce of 70s is that the old mancontacted his first wife some decades ago (she is still unmarried) and hisfirst born son. They remain friends. His mother passed away when sheleast expected inspite of all the power and money she had. So sometimes divorces do happen, unfortunately, even if the couple arestill in love all due to circumstances. Q5 Do the English put milk or cream intheir tea? A5 Elizabeth Henderson FormerEnglish Teacher. Dec 23 If anybody in the UK puts cream in their tea, they are in an invisibleminority. Many of us do put milk in ourtea, and contrary to one ofthe answers already given, some of us use full-fat milk. But it is not the sameas cream. I like strong black (Indian)tea with milk and sugar. My husband drinks Earl Grey, very weak, without milk or sugar. Other people like a slice oflemon or lime, but never together with milk, as it makes the milk curdle Q6 Are Indian banks taking fixeddeposits and investing in the stock market without customers’ knowledge? A6 Prasanna Bhalerao M.Sc. in Electronics & Physics, Fergusson College, Pune Fri Banks generally do not investdepositors’ money in the stock market. But get this straight. Once you make a Term Deposit with a Bank, the Bankowes you the principal and the promised interest. Nothing more, nothing less. What the bank does with thedepositors’ money is the Bank’s business. The depositors cannot question what the Bank does with their money. Theshareholders can. The depositors can only questionif their term deposits + interest are not paid out at the maturity date. Usually, the bank uses the infused capital to lend money to borrowers (ata higher interest). Q7 What is the relationship betweenincome and consumption? A7 Daniel Bright Authorof Enlightened Capitalism: A Keynes Primer 2nd edition Updated 1y >From another answerer to this question: “In economics, income =consumption + savings. Theincome an indivual, or a country, produces is either consumed and/or saved. Ifyou , or a country, overspends, you or the country dips into savings or createsdebt.” I think this answer is true forthe firm or the individual but in the whole economy it is no longer true. In the macro economy, every time some person or entity doesn’t spend, some other person or entity has their income reduced by the same amount. Andbecause that person won’t get their hands on that money, they will not have itto spend further, so the next would-be recipient of that spending doesn’t getthat income, which they in turn will not be able to spend….. and so on This statement implies that when someone spends money, the moneydisappears. However, whenever money is spent, the money still exists in thehands of the recipient of that spending. Then when that person spends thatmoney they received, again, it does not disappear, it is transferred to therecipient of THAT spending etc. At the end of all that spending, at the end ofthe given time period, the money used will still exist and can be considered assavings, in someone’s pocket. So someone making that argumentfor the macroeconomy must be talking about something other than spending ofmoney. Perhaps they are talking about wealth. Perhaps they are implying that allthat spending depletes wealth. I would suggest that spendingmore often than not leads to the production of wealth, either by paying for goods expected to be sold right away, or inanticipation of sales in the future Either way, for the most part those things sold will not be produced orcared for if someone wasn’t going to buy them. Whether perishable items, mostof which help preserve some more durable form of wealth, like human capital, for instance. Or durable forms of wealth are produced that will last beyond thecurrent time period. It is the “spending” that encourages the increasedproduction and preservation of wealth. So whether you spend it or not, in terms of money you will have the sameamount of money at the end of the given time period. which we can refer to as savings. But with the spending you will increase the production of wealth. Eitherway, in the macroeconomy, “Spending” is what leads to wealth production, “notspending” reduces wealth production and does nothing to increase money saved. That money saved will exist whether used for spending or not. So on either front, if the goal is to increase savings, and increase thenet production of wealth, “not spending” is the wrong advice. “Not spending”will not increase the savings that is the preservation of investment, and itwill likely not increase the net production of wealth, in fact it is morelikely to decrease both. Inthe macro economy, “not spending” is more likely to have negative effect on theproduction of wealth and standard of living, than a positive one. Q8 Why are the insides of wires usuallycopper but the plug is a different metal? A8 Ian Lang ElectronicEngineer BTEC L3Fri Copper is extremely malleable. Really. Copper bends like aRomanian gymnast in the Olympics. You can harden it, but then it can become brittle. Either way,it isn’t any good for plugs. Copper is the second best conductor ofelectricity, though, so it’s used in wires. Silver is the best. But it too isbendy. And expensive. Fortunately you can do something with copper that makes it far less bendyand still a good conductor and that we’ve known about since the Romans (whoperfected the art) and in fact in one form or another since somebody in Wiltshireon a really big mushroom trip said “this place needs a lot of really big stonesplonking down on it”. What you do is you chuck a loadof zinc at it and you get brass. Brass is great. You can chuck bits of tin, lead, and all sorts in tooto get different chemical properties. Brass isn’t a Romanian gymnast. It’s morelike one of those East German weightlifters, who despite having a name likeMargarita-Rosa and tits like a Zeppelin race does in fact have a moustache. Asanyone who has ever put their foot on a BS1363 at half past three in themorning will tell you. Q9 How many clothes can be washed in 8kg washing machine? A9 Gopala Krishnan, former Assistant General Manager 1996-2004 at Department of Telecom(1966-2004)Answered just now First one has to understand 8Kg means cloths weighing 8 kg when wet. So clothes like bed sheets and bed spreads we can put only 2–3. Pants canbe 3, shirts can be 5, saris can be 3 etc. It is best 3/4th of the machine is only loaded. Toomuch washing liquid is not good. Too little is also not good, if at all youextended the washing period for more time. Sufficient liquid detergent has to be poured. Q10 I'd like to cut sugar from my diet butdoing so makes me feel lethargic and cranky. Is there a healthy option toreplace sugar but with the same positive effects on mood and energy? A10 Lucia Garcia Worked atHospitals Dec 23 Excessive sugar is not only harmful to teeth, but also increases the riskof obesity, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes and otherdiseases, leading to various health problems. Stevia sugar can replace sugar.Stevia sugar is a natural sweetener extracted from the leaves of the SouthAmerican shrub Stevia. Stevia sugar contains no calories and does not make you fat. Itssweetness is 250 to 450 times that of sucrose. The glycemic index of stevia is only 1, which not only does not raiseblood sugar, but also lowers blood sugar and blood pressure levels. Stevia sugar is a kind of pure natural and high-safety sugar, known asthe "third-generation healthy sugar source". Stevia sugar has been approved by many countries, such as the UnitedStates, China, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Japan. The European Food SafetyAuthority has also confirmed the safety of stevia sugar and is speeding up the revision of the regulationsto approve the use of stevia sugar in daily foods.
