Q1            What is the differencebetween the rinse and spin option in a
washing machine?

A1            Venkateswara SwamySwarna, former Scientist, Metallurgist, Quality
/ NDT Manager at Department of AtomicEnergy, India (1967-2008)Answered Nov 28,
2019

Rinse involves drawing freshwater, soaking and then draining the water,
spinning the clothes to remove theexcess soap from themand repeating the
process if needed…the aim is to rinse the clothes of allexcess detergent.

Spin itself has a very limitedfunction - to remove the excess water from the
clothes…and is used at many stages of the program…final activity also being a
spin toremove all the excess water from the clothes and leaving them almost
dry…sothat they can be taken out and dried outside on a clothesline or indoors
on aclothes stand or under a fan…

Q2            What's thesignificance of burning corpses over burying them in
some foreign nationsespecially in India?

A2            Rami Sivan Priest,Dharma teacher, counsellor, Gov. Advisor
(1998–present)18h

Corpses need to be disposed of, and so cultures have developed different ways
of doing thisbased on their world views.

In Hinduism, which is a nature religion there are a number of ways inwhich
corpses can be disposed of in keeping with the fact that bodies are comprised
of the fiveelements; earth, water, fire, air and space.

Some, a minority of Hindus opt for an earth disposal i.e. burial

Some for a water burial - discarding of the corpse into a river or sea.

Most for the fire disposalmethod - i.e. cremation - since fire is our principle
element of worshipthroughout our lives.

And some, nowadays extremely rarely - air disposal in which a corpse isleft in
the open for the vultures and crows to feed upon. This method isfavoured by the
Parsis in India.

Traditionally at the end of life, a Hindu would prefer to die on thefloor i.e.
on the breast of Mother Earth. All the rituals are done with thecorpse on the
earth. The earth also symbolises Brahmā.

It is then consumed by fire which represents the transformative activityof
Shiva.

The ashes are then gathered and cast into a river or the sea whichrepresents
Vishnu.

After the cremation ball of rice are fed to crows which arerepresentative of
the ancestors and the Air element.

In this way all the elements are involved in the process of helping thedeceased
to transition from this material world into the next dimension.

Q3            On the ocean floorwhere there are heat vents, why isn't the water
around the heat ventsconstantly boiling?

A3            David Thomas  Professional Engineer, Civil, Alaska Dec 29

Because the water is under such high pressure. Just like the coolant inyour
car’s radiator or the water in a home pressure cooker. Those are onlyabout one
atmosphere of additional pressure so equivalent to being 10 m underwater.

At 1000 m down, the boilingpoint of water would be 312C / 593F and higher still
at deeper depths.

Q4            What do restaurants inyour area do if a customer eats and is
unable to pay?

A4            Naveen Subramanian Livedin Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India5h

There’s a trade secret - If the owner (or) well experienced long-termstaff is
the cashier, hewill let go of the customer who’s unable to pay. The reason
issimple - a successful busy restaurant loses 5–10% of total revenue per day
dueto “human error”. Though the billing is computerized (or digital) cash
handlingis still done by humans and humans makes mistakes.

As a scenario, let's consider a middle-class restaurant with heavyfootfalls on
a busy weekend day. The total transaction would be in lakhs that’shandled by a
single person in cash counter (unless it's a fast-food chain likeKFC which has
multiple cash counters)

The billing software will generate the bill based on human inputs. If Ienter 6
dosa, it will generate a bill for 6 dosa. If I make a mistake and enter5 dosa
instead of 6, it will generate a bill only for 5 dosa. This mistake
isunintentional as a cashier or the waiter will be very busy, tired,
exhausted, and is prone to make mistakes.

Next is the “giving change” part - If the total bill is Rs 1736 and thecustomer
gives a Rs 2000 currency note, the billing system will say “balancechange to be
given is Rs 264”. However, the system doesn’t understand thatthere is no Rs 4
coin. Sometimes the restaurant itself will run out of coins. So the cashier will
round of the “giving change” to Rs 260 and enter Rs 4 lossas miscellaneous
(there’s a separate column called miscellaneous in the billingsystem to handle
such issues)

The billing system is fixed and doesn’t vary based on customers. Forexample -
the additional 150 gms gravy is Rs 35. But sometimes it’s unfair tocharge for
extra gravy when it's a regular customer or the total billing ishuge. In such
cases, customers would feel annoyed to pay extra for extra gravy. So the cashier
will give it for free and enter it under “discount’ or“miscellaneous”

Sometimes local traffic cops will ask for bribes (crowd in the
restaurantcreates excess traffic on-road) so the cashier will simply take some
from thecounter and write it off as miscellaneous.

Apart from all these, there are other reasons like missing to bill forkids and
counting only adults in a buffet, etc

So overall, the thumb rule is- there will be revenue loss and a gap between
total bill generated and totalrevenue generated.Successful restaurants try to
keep it as minimum as possible between 5% on anormal day and 10% on a very busy
day.

A person unable to pay a bill is not at all a loss compared to food wastethat
happens in the kitchen at the end of the sale. Also, the profit margin permeal
is somewhere between 30% (for sweets) to 100 % (for gravy) - (Trade Secret2 -
this is why gravy is costly than the main dish)

Comparing all these scenarios, the owner or an experienced long-termcashier
will simply let go of that person because spending time to handle thatissue is
simply a waste of time …. time is money, and it's precious.

Who would want to sit andfight for Rs 260 bill while transacting in lakhs?

The business itself is a cycle - you lose somewhere to someone and gainit
somewhere from someone. You just have to keep losses under control

A successful entrepreneur understands this equation.

My note- It was before 3 years.I was on a visit to temples near Kumbakonam. I
took meals from a restaurant at kumbakonam. I gave my debit card forpayment. I
did not check the amount deducted in counterfoil since spectacleswas in bag My
wife had been to toilet and I was waiting outside. A  server rushed to me and
asked the counterfoil. I had an excess deduction ofRs 2000-00. In the hurry, my
card was used for bill payment of a bigfamily instead of mine. He brought cash
Rs 2000-00.

>From that day, either I would paycash or ask any family member to check the
>bill and counter foil.

Q5            Can you remembermemories from a previous life?

A5            Devala Rees Hindupractitioner and scholar of Pagan religions Dec

Yes I do, but I generallyprefer not to dwell on it or getinto the details too
much, as I don’t want to identify myself with my pastlives and bodies; it’s a
somewhat inherently regressive thing to do, accordingto many Hindu spiritual
teachings that I follow. I do have a lot of past lifememories though.

Q6            How is it possiblethat after such a great evolution in medicine
and years of research, a cure forcancer has not yet been invented?

A6            Mats Andersson B. Sc,M. Sc from Uppsala University Sun

When I was born, 5 people outof 6 who got a cancer diagnosis were dead five
years later.

Today, 5 people out of 6 who geta cancer diagnosis are still alive five years
later.

“Cancer” is avery convenient label for something between 100 and 200 radically
differentdiseases that have a number of features in common. But they are all
different, andthere isn't going to be one breakthrough that stop them all.

There's just going to be a slow but steady chipping away, until it is oneday a
serious but rarely fatal condition, much like pneumonia.

Q7            Which is the washingmachine in India which is good at hard water?

A7            Muralidhar Rao,Instructor Avionics (Electrical) Answered May 3,
2020

I have seen different washing machines with my friends, like frontloading ,top
loading, semi automatic ,fully automatic and manually operatingmachines.

Every body complained as how to overcome hardness of water , particularlythe
washing machine that has heater installed for spin dry .

No washing machine in India has the capacity to turn hardness in to soft water.

One method to make water soft is to install water softener plant. Orcompromise
scale formation due to hard water.

After every fourth wash I clean with diluted acid with brush, removehardend
scale and wipe dry.10 years passed I didn't see any scale formation

Hardness in water is due to dissolved chemical like calcium sulphate andor
magnesium sulphate how can washing machine remove this hardness is beyond
myknowledge.

My note- Now a solid unit isavailable which is insertedin the inlet and water
inlet is connected to it. This solid unit removesimpurities from water. This
may reduce hardness of water also, I am told by AC technician.

Q8            Is it harmful to keepmy phone charger plugged in if I
disconnected the phone?

No it is not harmful at all.Now a day all charger are smartthey automatically
cut off the supply when there is no load concede. But for safe side we most
switchoff the charger. Which will save our energy too.

Q9            How do you unfreeze anair conditioner?

A9            Pat McRoind, formerTechnician (Class 8 Mechanic)
(1993-2018)Answered Sun

Immediately shut it off, unplug it, and stop using it. Safety first.Chance of
kaboom and fire.

If the “radiator” thing you see in the front of back of it is getting abunch of
frost on it that’s a symptom of something being clogged (dirty, mightneed to be
flushed and recharged), it’s out of refrigerant. It needs servicedif that’s
happened. If that’s what’s going on shut it off. Don’t run it likethat that’s a
fairly high fire hazard risk you’re taking.

Sometimes cleaning them real good fixes that. It’ll have to be takenapart as
far as it can be taken apart and every part cleaned thoroughly. Ifyou’re not
keen or confident with doing that yourself….have it serviced.

Q10                  What does goldlook like when it’s being referred to as
being spongy?

A10          James Byrd MedicalResearch Updated 19h

When purifying metals: whether it's copper, silver, or gold, etc. . . ,there's
often a step where the metal precipitates as clumps known as sponge.

It basically doesn't look metalic at all. If allowed to dry, it wouldlook like
a colored powder. Copper sponge is dark orange, silver: dark grey andgold
sponge is usually dark brown.

If one carefully heats this metal sponge to its melting point and let itcool,
it will assume a typical metal appearance. Often when molten, it ispoured into
a mold, which is usually rectangular.

Q11         Why wasn't the bicycleinvented long before 1817?

A11          Pieter Read way to muchabout naval warfare Jan 1

If you wanted to go from A to B you would walk.

If you wanted to go faster or with less effort you would ride a horse ora
camel, or maybe you hired porters to transport you in a litter, sedan chairor
palanquin.

Over longer distances women and sometimes the elderly would use avehicle.

Roman and Chinese emperors would occasionally ride chariots forceremonial
purposes but by and large men just didn’t really use vehicles forlong distance
transport.

This all changed rather suddenly in late 16th century Europe. Within afew
decades it became normal to travel by horse drawn vehicle. In cities horsecabs
exploded into use and for longer distances (stage) coaches became thefastest
and most comfortable way to travel. Initially there was some resistanceagainst
this unmanly form of travel but convenience and comfort won out in theend.

This is part of the backgroundagainst which bicycles should be viewed. From
about 1600 onward there existed aculture where vehicular travelwas commonly
practiced and socially acceptable. Bicycles are not very intuitivefor a society
that doesn’t use wheeled vehicles for personal transport.

The earliest two wheeled vehicles which you mention in your questionlargely
came about when an inventor tried to come up with a wheeled vehiclesthat didn’t
use horses. Something more on everyone’s mind in the aftermath ofthe Napoleonic
Wars which were an equine disaster.

Notably these were called dandy horses and it does seem like they
wereexpensive. In the late1860s you might have one for 75 to 150 USD but this
was when an unskilled laborerearned only 400 dollars a year while a skilled
laborer earned about 700.In both cases their annual discretionary income was
insufficient to buy one ofthese.

Q12         Why is my airconditioner not dripping water?

A12          Sumit Singh , WorkManager at Pharmaceuticals
(2018-present)Answered Nov 22, 2019

why u want your AC to dripwater?? really…nothing personalbut if its not
dripping that is good sign of no filter choking, evaporativecoils are cleaned
and drain pipe has no leakage, drainage system working well.or their is very
less wet air or humidity….comfort AC works on sensible coolingand
dehumidification so it dehumidy and collect moisture in drain
pan…..ifeverything is working would ur AC will drip water on your table or
importantdocument …thankyou

2ND ANSWER- DesaiCn, former Chief Engineer AnsweredFeb 15, 2020

Air conditioner drips becauseit condenses moisture from air It conditions. If
the temperature is set toohigh, it will not condense.

May be it is not cooling because of one of several reasons likerefregerent gas
short, condenser fins or filter choked requiring cleaningetc.May be air is dry.

3RD ANSWER- KshitijTrivedi, B.Tech MechanicalEngineering, SRM Institute of
Science and Technology (2018)Answered Aug 9, 2018

For that, you should be familiar with the reason why the ac actuallydrips
water. the reason ithappens is because the moisture in the air, in form of
vapor while passing overthe tubes, tend to condense and come out as water from
the drain pipe.if the AC is not dripping water, then it could be as simple as a
good drainagesystem of the A/C or as weird as low humidity in the air.

4TH ANSWER- GlennGeorge , Appliance Repairman& Owner (2015-present)Answered Jun
28, 2018

The newer models of window a/c’s have a slinger fan blade on them thatuses the
condensation water to sling that water onto the compressor to keep itcool.
Therefore the manufacture no longer has a drainhole for this water.
