Q1            Why does a Vada inVasantha Bhavan cost 35 rupees?

A1            KanthaswamyBalasubramaniam Lawyer11h

To pay for the Salaries of Waiters, Rent for Square Footage of theRestaurant,
Electricity, Water, Miscellaneous Payments, Taxes etc.

Its why you can get a Vada forRs. 5/- at the Local Tea Shop but the same
Vadacould set you back by Rs. 137.50/- (Rs. 275/- for2 Vadas) at Le Meridien

An Actual Vada costs only Rs. 2.60/- includingthe Oil, Urad Dal and the current
required to grind the Vada Paste. So inVasantha Bhavan, the balance Rs. 32.40/-
is being paid for:-

(a) Your Table and Seat (b) The A/c or Fan

(c) A Waiter bringing your Food to you

(d) Sambar and upto three varieties of Chutney

(e) Your Parking (f) Unlimited Glasses of Water(g) The Opportunity toorder a
Pongal or Dosa if you are hungry enough without needing to leave yourtable.

In Short - CONVENIENCE!!!!

Even in Places like Le Meridien - the Vada is mostly consumed by Guestswho get
Complimentary Breakfast or Americal Meal Plan (Breakfast + 1 Major MealFree)

Very Few Guests come just to have Breakfast or Lunch or Dinner in suchFive Star
Hotels

Cost & Worth are two entirely different things

Now it is upto the Consumer to decide if it is Worth it or Not Worth itto pay
Rs. 35/- or Rs. 45/- or Rs. 137.50/- for a Medu Vada.

Q4            What have you learnedtoday?

A4            Jyotsna Tiwary SoftwareDeveloper at BlackRock (company)
(2022–present)Fri

A bottle of a litre water at Amazon is Rs 18.The same bottle in thesupermarket
is worth about Rs 20.The same bottle in a bar costs Rs 50.

In a good restaurant or hotel itcan be worth up to Rs 100.At an airport, you
may be charged Rs 100-150.

The bottle and the brand is the same, the only thing that changes is theplace.
Each place gives a different value to the same product.

When you feel like you are worth nothing and everyone brings you down, donot
stay there, get up and find a new place.

Have the courage to change places and go to a place where you are giventhe
value you deserve. Surround yourself with people who really appreciate
yourworth.

My note- In airport checkingwater is not permitted even fordomestic travel. So
one is forced to pay whatever the convenience charge  by the shopsin airport.

Q5            Do people who practiceIndian classical dances do so to worship
God/gods or just for entertainment?

A5            Rami Sivan HinduPriest, Yoga-Vedanta teacher, registered nurse
.Sat

All the classical arts of India- painting, music, song anddance were centred
around the temple and devotion.

Kathak was the first classicaldance form to betransferred from the temples to
the Moghul courts and “secularised” for theentertainment of both the Hindu and
the Muslim royal courts.

Modern Bharata Natyam,Kuchipudi, Orissi are learntand practiced by many
non-Hindus - mainly as entertainment and some even learnthem as a form of
exercise.

My cousin taught Bharata-natyam and Kathakali in Israel for over 30 yearsand
none of his students were Hindus.

Kathakali is still mainlyconfined to the temples and isdanced only by Hindus -
I have never heard of a non-Hindu learning this ancientart form.

Q6            How come blacks dowell in sports while Asians do well on
academics? Can we all just admit thereis a gene component to this?

A6            Claire Jordan Degreein biology and folklore; programmer, shop
owner, secretary on newspaper14h

There’s a genetic component towhy the best runners tend to be black, because
black people with recent ancestry in the Great Rift Valley tendto have superior
musclefibres to the rest of us. But the groups who tend to do bestacademically
tend to be those who have a culture which values debate andanalysis, combined
with a diet which is rich in oily fish, which is good for neurological
development.

Q8            Are there anyvegetables/edible plants that are incredibly easy to
grow/carefree?

A8            Kowshalyaa Kumaraguru 23,Software Engineer, India Dec 23

Fenugreek -Just throw the seeds around.Try to water it everyday for around 2
weeks. If you miss watering it for a day or two, it won't be dead the next day.

It can grow a little more than this but I prefer taking it out at thisstage.

You can just add the leaves to Chapathi or Dal. You can dry this for acouple of
days and you'll have Kasuri Methi — that's usually added to mostIndian gravies

Q9            Why are trees calledhardwoods and softwoods?

A9            Ron Mason , worked atU.S. Forest Service (1972-2007)Answered 18m

It is a traditionalclassification but it is imprecise. Deciduous treesare
called hardwoods and conifers are called softwoods. There areenough exceptions
that for scientific purposes the classification is not thatuseful. If you
really want to understand the relative hardness of one wood toanother refer to
the Janka scale.

Q12         Can concrete last 10,000years?

A12          Michael BurrowsStudiedCivil Engineering at Imperial College
LondonJan 5

We haven’t been makingconcrete for 10,000 years so we can’t be absolutely sure,
but all the indications are that it would last a very long time. Concrete is
known to getstronger over time as the chemical reactions that cause setting
continue.Similar materials to concrete occur in nature and they are known to
survivethousands or even millions of years.

However, steel reinforcedconcrete does have significant durability problems.
Water penetrates the surface of the concrete andover time may reach the steel
reinforcement. This can then rust which is damaging in itself, weakening the
structure. Worse still, rustoccupies an larger volume than steel, so the
expansion forces off the concretecover, eventually destroying the structure.
