CULTURAL QA 01-2022-23 BEING A COMPILATION THERE MAY BE ERRORS
Q1 Why are there no Aartinear river banks in South India? Is it that South Indians do not worshiprivers? A1 Goutham R Lives inBengaluru, Karnataka, India Fri I can tell from Karnataka perspective, here we don’t have aarti near river banks, It is notlocal tradition. There are many reasons for this. South and north have different traditions, so this aarti tradition isalso absent in Karnataka. Rivers in north are perennial, there is good water flow throughout theyear. But in south, our rivers are rainfed, they are not perennial. Duringnormal monsoon we can see good flow of water, in other seasons it will beparched and looks like tiny streams. When there is no water, no point in doing aarti.Karnataka is second arid region in India after Rajasthan. Huge lands in deccanin KA, MH and AP are very dry and arid. Also I have observed one majordifference in aarti tradition. In south, aarti will be over within 5 to 10mins. Either we tell a mantra or a song in our local language likeKannada/Telugu and it will be over within 10 mins. But from Maharashtra onwards, aarti will be donefor very long time, it goes on for more than 30 mins, sometimes morethan an hour. I have seen Mumbai’s sarvajanik Ganeshotsav mandals in news channels. They sing Marathi Bhajanas and do aarti, it will last for long time. But herein Karnataka, we do aarti not more than 5 mins, Vinayaka Chaturthi is a majorfestival in Karnataka too. It is same in North India too, devotees sing bhajansin Hindi like Jai Jagadisha hare, etc and do aarti for long time. So the samehappens in front of rivers also. As our aarti itself is very quick, suchrituals are not done in front of rivers. I have also seen North Indians devotees in Bengaluru temples doing aartiin front of God. Local people visit temples, pray to God, take teertha andprasada and leave. So this culture of doing aarti out of our homes is very lessin South. Only exception is on Fridays, ladies light lamps on lemons and doaarti in Devi temples. Apart from this we don’t do aarti outside. Recently this tradition has started on Cauvery, Kapila and Tunga riverbanks, it is inspired seeing Ganga aarti in TV. It willbe done once in a year or so and not daily. Q3 Why did it take solong for ancient civilizations to come up with the concept of "zero"? A3 Matt RiggsbyMAArchaeology, Boston University Tue Because it wasn’t, so far as theycould tell, useful or even meaningful. Why do we use numbers? If you’re someone in an ancient civilization, it’sto count and measure things: three sheep, five and a half miles down the river, six hundred pounds of wheat, and so on. Zero indicates nothingness, a lack ofsomething to count or measure. And if there’s nothing to count or measure, thennumbers don’t enter into it. They don’t apply any more than going north of thenorth pole. Without things to apply numbers to, the concept makes no sense.Eventually, more abstract mathematics developed a use for zero, but generallyspeaking, the very idea took time to be accepted because it seemed like animpossible concept. Q3 Why does water stillrun when the power goes out? A3 Steven Haddock Studiedat York University (Canada)Jan 14 It won’t do so indefinitely, but most water systems are setup to pump water (with electricity) to a high reservoir where it sits untilit’s needed. This ensures that water pressure remains consistent nomatter what the demand for it. When the water in the tower falls to a certain level, the pump comes onand re-fills it until it reaches its maximum level. To get it out, all you haveto do is open a valve on the system. A5 D D Rishi Former IRS |Advocate | LL. M.,Ph.D. (Law) | Wed Most Indians spend recklessly onthe education and marriage of their children, and become bankrupt soon enough. After a certain age, children should work while studying instead of beinga burden on their parents. But parents sadly don't promote this. It is a criminal wastage of money to spend unnecessary on marriagefunctions to 'protect social prestige’. Children are also privy to this crime. Indian do save wisely. So, switch your drinking habits to Alkaline Water. 2ND ANSWER- BlueLife TechnoSciences India Pvt. Ltd., Manufacturers of Innovative and UniqueResidential Water PurifiersAnswered Jul 21, 2017 It is based on your source water.RO Membrane salt rejectionrate is 90 to 98%. The best way to connect the RO purifier is that to connect with yourground water. The permeate TDS will be good, if ground water TDS is less than2000ppm, also the performance of RO Membrane will be good. If ground water is not available, alternatively municipal water is onlythe source. In this case the TDS in permeate will be low. Chlorine degrades ROmembranes, and chances of RO membrane failures are high. Q10 What are the mostincorrect things taught by Indian parents to their children?
