AHIMSA (NON VIOLANCE)

Ahiṃsā (अहिंसा).—Non-injury. There are opinions both in favour of and
against Ahiṃsā in the purāṇas. Śukrācārya extols the importance of Ahiṃsā
to the asuras (demons) thus:

"bho! devaripavaḥ satyaṃ bravīmi bhavatāṃ hitam ahiṃsā paramo dharmo
hantavyā hyātatāyinaḥ dvijairbhogaratairvede darśitaṃ hiṃsanam paśoḥ
jihvāsvādaparaiḥ kāma—mahiṃsaiva parā matā."

"Oh, foes of the devas, I shall tell you the truth which is good for you.
Non-injury to any living being is the most righteous thing. Do not molest
even those who come to kill you. Even that act would be 'hiṃsā' (injury). It
was those brahmins who were attached to worldly pleasures and addicted to
overeating that enjoined in the Vedas that hiṃsā is permissible for yāgas."
(Devī Bhāgavata, Skanda 4). Mārkaṇḍeya Muni (sage) says thus: "Why should I
mind the innumerable killings going on unnoticed in this world full of
life. People of old speak very sacredly about Ahiṃsā. But O best of
brahmins, who can live in this world without injury to another life?"
(Mahabharata, Araṇya Parva, Ślokas 32 & 33, Chapter 208). Yes sir EASILY
SAID THAN…..History is wars and Vedas advocate ahimsa. Krishna is for
Ahimsa or else would not have begged for Pandavas, 5 houses at least; but
war is inevitable, where PUTIns are born; and MODI slide down this time,
whatever reason one may adduce. If China were threat to India who cannot be
won, then prestige of a nation is waste. Either there should have been
effective status to fight any nation or call a spade a spade even if a
friend. Lot of money given to Russia is a lame excuse. India is the cause
of millions fleeing and 1000s dying. Another ludicrous move is admitting
the Ukrainian part doctors to Indian institutions; again a wrong foot;
Stalin walks over Modi so easily, pretending to have accomplished a lot
where Modi lost the craftsmanship.

2 Charaka samhitao sutra 20 to 60 advocates the way of life to lead in
peace, where ahimsa is advocated as under extracted:

“ As far as Caraka <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/caraka#ayurveda> is
concerned, an ethically virtuous life will be a healthy and a happy one. So
he gives elaborate moral prescriptions which are conductive to good health
and happiness. From the point of view of one's mundane and spiritual
well-being, he advocates to hold back from urges relating to evil deeds. A
wise person should refrain from greed, grief, fear, anger, vanity,
shamelessness, jealousy, extreme attachment, and malice. One should not use
harsh and untimely words. One should not engage in violence or immoral
contact with women, theft, and persecution. Injury to living beings (*hiṃsā
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/himsa#hinduism>*) is a sin and so it
will affect one's longevity. So non-injury (*ahiṃsā
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/ahimsa#hinduism>*) is prescribed as a
way of increasing ones life (*ahimsā
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/ahimsa#hinduism> prāṇavardhanaṃ*).

One should avoid such sinful persons in character, speech, and mind as well
as those who are quarrelsome and those who make vicious remarks about
others. The greedy, the envious, the cruel, the fickle minded as well as
those who indulge in defaming others, those who associate with the enemies,
those who are devoid of compassion, and those who do not follow the
virtuous course of life are also to be avoided. Caraka further advises to
associate with wise, learned, and matured persons as well as with men of
character, fortitude, and self-concentration. So also one should make
association with those who know the real nature of things and are full of
equanimity, who direct us in the right path, who are good to all beings,
and who are peaceful and content. The better way is to give up the
unwholesome habits and to develop wholesome habits steadily and
gradually. He must improve himself by a series of ideological and
behavioural self-identifications.”
