Q1 What are the rituals ofKumbha mela?

A1Kumbh Mela is attended by millions of people on a single day. The highlight
ofthe event is a ritual bath at the banks of the rivers in each town.
Otheractivities include religious discussions, devotional singing, mass feeding
ofholy men and women and the poor, and religious assemblies where doctrines
aredebated and standardized.

Kumbh Mela is the mostsacred of all the pilgrimages. Thousands of holy men
andwomen (monks, saints and sadhus) attend, and the auspiciousness of the
festivalstems from their presence. The sadhus are seen clad in saffron sheets
withplenty of ashes and powder dabbed on their skin. Some called naga sanyasis
may often beseen without any clothes even in severe winter, live to a rigorous
life ofausterities.

Q2 What are the  legends and myths about Kumbha mela?

A2With Kurma Avatar (the tortoise) of Vishnu, below Mount Mandara and
supportingit and Vasuki, the snake wrapped around it, the devas and asuras
churned theocean in search of the immortal nectar. This Samudra manthan finds
mention in Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu Purana, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana.

The observance ofKumbh Mela dates back many centuries in Ancient India, to the
Vedic period, wherethe river festivals first started getting organized.

TheGods had lost their strength, and to regain it, they thought of churning
theKsheera Sagara (primordial ocean of milk) for amrita (the nectar
ofimmortality). This required them to make a temporary truce with their
archenemies, the demons and work together with a promise of sharing the
nectarequally.

However, when the Kumbha (urn) containing the amrita appeared, a fightensued.
For twelve days and twelve nights (equivalent to twelve human years)the gods
and demons fought in the sky for the pot of amrita.

There are two versionsfrom hereon: During the battle, the celestialbird, Garuda
the vehicle of Vishnu flew away with the Kumbha of elixir. Dropsof amrita fell
at four places on earth: Prayag, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik, and that’s where
the KumbhMela is observed every twelve years.

As per the second version asmentioned in Skanda Purana, Indra’s son Jayanta
gothold of the Amrita during the fight between the Devas and Asuras. He started
torun away with it. The demons started to chase Jayanta around the earth.
Thechase lasted for 12 days or 12 human years. During this time, the
nectarspilled at Allahabad, Haridwar, Nasik and Ujjain.

Q3 When do we have firstwritten evidence of Kumbhamela?

A3 First writtenevidence of the Kumbha Mela is the account of the Chinese
traveller, Huan Tsang or Xuanzang (602 - 664 A.D.) who visitedIndia in 629 -645
CE, during the reign of King Harshavardhana.

According to The Imperial Gazetteer ofIndia, an outbreak of cholera occurred at
the 1892 Mela at Haridwar, which lead to the rapid improvement of arrangement
by theauthorities and the formation of Haridwar Improvement Society, and in
1903about 400,000 people attended the fair.

Tenmillion people gathered at Haridwar for the Kumbh on April 14, 1998.

Around1 million people from outside of India and from around the world
participatedin the 'Maha Kumbh Mela' at Prayag (Allahabad) in 2001, with
planetarypositions that repeat only once in 144 years. The total gathering
exceeded 60millions.

Literally, kabillions of people will descend upon the banksof the Ganges during
the 10 most sacred bathng days of "Kumba Mela" to ridthemselves of the deepest
seeded sins and karma that have stopped or limitedtheir success.  It is the
spiritual spathat even the spiritually elite can only participate 6 or 7 times
in an entirelife time...if you are lucky or blessed enough.

Q4 What is the importance of Suruttupalli temple?

A4 The Lord and temple to diffuse your karma in 2010is Suruttapalli.

This is a unique temple onthe border of Tamil Nadu and Andra Pradesh wherein
after Lord Shiva drinks thepoison (karma) of the world, he falls down. Goddess
Parvati holds his head sothat the poison does not spill back out into the
world. If anyone goes here ordoes pooja here, the bad effects of their karma
will be averted.

Suruttapalli Lord Dakshinamoorthy (Jupiter) can be found in a rare formin which
his Shakti or Consort is sitting on his lap

Q5 Which are the fourdivine abodes of Hinduism?

A5 Badrinath(in the north)high in the Himalayas near the source ofGanges,
associated with Lord Shiva.

Puri(in the east),important to devotees of lord Krishna. Puri holds a"Rath
Yatra" of Jagannath temple every year at the end of the June.

Rameshwaram(in thesouth),as the name suggests is related to Lord Rama;who
crossed this place on his journey to rescue Sita from Ravana.

And Dwarka (in thewest),is also associated with Lord krishna.

Q6 What is sade sathi legendabout Anjaneya / Lekshmana?

A6Legends have it that during the warfare of Ramayana, Lakshmanan, was
injuredseriously. To save his life Lord Hanuman had to bring the medicine
fromSanjeevi Hills which could heal the wound.

Lord Hanuman started hisjourney towards Sanjeevi when on his way to the hills,
He gotintercepted by Saturn claiming that Lakshmanan would have to experience
theeffect of Saturn transit at this particular time. (Some say it was
Hanuman’sSade-Sathi). Whatever, Sani stopped Hanuman from continuing his
journey to thehills. Hanuman reasoned with Saturn;tried explaining him the
importance of Lakshmana's presence in the combat. …

NeitherSaturn was ready to lend his ears to Lord Hanuman's explanations; nor
Hanumanunable to control his rage in turn. This is when Lord Hanuman took full
control of Saturn'spower by stepping onto Saturn under his mighty feet. Many
say thisincident stands proof enough to show that lord Hanuman was so powerful
that hecould control even the fierce Saturn!

Yes, his powers are so greatthat even Saturn fears to influence him and his
devotees. In factthose who surrender at Lord Hanuman's feet will never be
troubled by any of the9 planets. He is considered the greatest of the greatest
heroes as well as theservant of servants. He is totally selfless and without
his own agenda. “Hispower is so great that he controls Saturn with his tail!”

natal horoscope.

Q10 What are the mythological attributions of cow?

A10 When we see theankles of   the cow we protect ourselvesfrom sudden deaths.

Circumambulating the cowis equivalent to visiting all of the holy places. As
the peepal    tree and tulasi plant give oxygen, similarlythe cow is the
onlyanimal which purifies the air. If one spoon of pure ghee is pouredon
burning    cow dung (in homa) thenthey can produce one-ton of pure air,
therefore ghee made with cow milk is used in sacrificial fires and havans. There
is no better method to removepollution.

Cow urine contains copper, which is converted into gold inside the human body.
It removes all toxicity. Drinkingcow milk gives strength and increases the pure
qualities in the human mind.
