Knowing fully well inauthentic matter is reported and this could have been
done so easily, Now the real truth:
Q3 Jagannatha temple Puri wonders
1 flag: For more than a century past, historians, foreign and Indian, have
been trying to' unveil the mystery of the three deities namely, Jagannatha,
Balabhadra and Subhadra worshipped in the Puri temple. Flag always flaps in
the opposite direction of the air.
2 Rigveda time: A passage is frequently quoted from the Rig Veda and
explained in the light of the well-known commentary of Sayana to show that
the history of Jagannatha dates back to the age of the Rig Veda itself.
>From any place in Puri you will always find the Sudarshan Chakra (Charka at
top of Temple) facing you. The metal wheel at the top of Lord Jagannath
temple is known as Neela Chakra (Blue Wheel). The wheel is made of eight
metals: iron, copper, zinc, mercury, lead, brass, silver and gold. It's
circumference is about 36 feet and it is so designed that there is a wheel
within the wheel. The circumference of the inner wheel is about 26 feet.
Eight hubs join together the inner and the outer wheels. There are
decorative designs on the outer wheel. The thickness of the Neela Chakra is
2 inches. The wheel is said to be Lord Vishnu's most powerful weapon,
Sudarshana Chakra (disk). Inside Lord Jagannath temple, Lord Vishnu's wheel
is also worshipped in the name of 'Sudarshana'. But inside the temple
Sudarshana is not in the shape of a wheel, but in the shape of a small wood
pillar placed to the left of image of Lord Jagannath. It is believed that
the same Sudarshana is also at the top of the temple and is known by the
name of Neela Chakra
3 During day time Air comes from sea to land: Normally during day-time,
air comes from sea to land and during evening, the vice-versa occurs. But
in Puri it’s totally opposite. The Pandavas of the Mahabharata are believed
to have come here and offered worship to Jagannatha. After entering from
Singhadwara’s first step (from inside of the Temple), you can’t hear any
sound produced by the ocean. But, when you cross the same step (from
outside of the Temple) you can hear it.
4 Birds or Planes do not fly above the temple: Shadow of the main dome is
invisible at any time of the day. { same as Brahadeeswara} There is the
mention of one Jinasana in the historic Hatigumpha inscription of the
emperor on the top of Udayagiri hills near Bhubaneswar and though it
clearly speaks of a Jaina deity, it is often identified with Jagannatha.
But reliable materials in historical form are available from the 9th
century A.D. when Sankaracarya visited Puri and founded the Govardhana
Matha as the eastern dhama of India.
5 Food never get wasted: The quantity of cooked food inside the Temple
remains the same for the entire year. But that same quantity of prasadam
can feed few thousand people and 20 lac people also. Still it won’t get
wasted or never lag. In the Temple kitchen, 7 pots are kept on each other
and cooked on firewood. In this process the contents in the top pot get
cooked first and then the bottom one
6 Every day a priest climbs atop the temple, which is as tall as a 45
storey building, to change the flag. This ritual has been in place for 1800
years. It is believed that if this ritual is ever missed, the temple will
remain shut for the next 18 years.
7 Unlike the stone and metal icons found in most Hindu temples, the idol
of Jagannath is made of wood and is ceremoniously replaced every twelve or
nineteen years by an exact replica. The idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord
Baladeva, and Subhadra are carved and decorated with wooden stumps with
large round eyes and with stumps as hands. It is made of wood, which is an
exception to common Hindu iconography deities of stone. The increasing
weight of god’s wooden idols, while carrying temples to the chariot (rath)
at the time of Puri Jagannath remains a magical mystery for all. ( we have
similar Garuda (kal) here also)
8 The Chariot does not move, even if numerous people pull it; until and
unless the King of puri – The Gajapati’s do not come and perform a ritual
known as ‘Chera pahanra
