BEING  A COMPILATIONTHERE MAY  BE ERRORS

Q1           Whydo some public toilet seats have the front bit taken out
(making them like aforked tongue)?

A1           Miguel Former Fire fighter/EMT14h

Those are old toilet seats. Just theynever wear out. Split seats were required
in public restrooms for over 60 years as I recall, somestupid regulation
decided they were “safer” than seats that were not split.Al Gore reviewed tons
of federal regulations when he was VP, and that wasone stupid regulation that
was eliminated as a result of the massive review. But you still occasionally see
them, and heck some may still be for salesomewhere. I alwaysthought they were
nasty, as in mens rooms guys would pee on the rim and no seatto protect you
from that. Gross.

Q2           Iseating too much fruit bad for one’s health? I tend to eat around
2-3 bananasevery day and I was wondering if there were any negative effects to
doing so.

A2           Gary Townsend Bus Driver (2012–present)Fri

wow, you’re riskingit, I mean 3 bananas a day. I knew someone who used to eat
bananas most days. They died a few years ago, so sad. I hardly eat any fruit and
veg at allnowadays, and I’m still alive, still working, still going on quora to
answerquestions with my world knowledge and wisdom.

My note- Except for diabetics three plantains a day do notmake any harm as I
read.

Yes, butsuch people tend to die very young, as they cannottell whether they are
injured or infected unless the damage is right on thefront where they can

A6           Andrew McGregor Studied for a PhD inPhysics Apr 28

Yes, that should happen, although it is quite a slowprocess in visible light,
as the light becomes visibleas the stellar wind blows dust out into
interstellar space, which should takeyears. The youngest known star is
approximately a thousand yearsold ; wehaven’t seen one shine for the first time
yet, although given the developmentof instruments like GAIA, we should
eventually.

Q7           What'sthe difference between microorganisms and germs?

A7           Ken Saladin Former professor of histology(microscopic anatomy)Apr

Both of these are rather vague terms of no precisebiological meaning.

Microorganisms areany organisms of microscopic or near-microscopic size.
Microbe is another wordfor microorganism, but usuallyrefers to bacteria. Germ
refers especially to microbes (microorganisms) withthe potential to cause
disease. Germs can be bacteria, molds, yeasts, or protozoans, among other
organisms. Viruses (which aren’t truemicroorganisms) are also often included
within the term germ.

Q9           Howmuch money would you need in the bank to feel comfortable to be
able to takeretirement from work today?

A9           Prasanna Bhalerao M. Sc. inElectronics & Physics, Fergusson
College, PuneApr 30

Another loaded andopen ended question. Thereare far too many open parameters to
come to a figure.

It depends uponyour lifestyle, the place where you live, how much long you
expect yourlifespan to be. Metro citiesand Tier 1 cities are expensive, Tier 2
and lower towns are less expensive. It also depends whether you are still paying
off loans? Do you have dependentsto support financially? Do you have major
expenses coming up? How healthy youare? And so on. Finally over and above there
is inflation to consider.

As I have said inso many answers, assuming that you have no loans to pay, you
have your ownunencumbered home to live in, you live in a tier 1 City, you don't
have anextravagant life style, there are no dependents, no major expenses
coming up(like marriages of children, home repair, buying a new car), health is
fine, have mediclaim insurance, etc., then you should be able to find comfort
with ₹40,000~₹45,000 permonth.

Assuming thisfigure today and assuming a constant inflation of 6%, you will
require close to₹1 Cr for retirement (₹98 lakhs to be to a closer to the
figure). This kitty will support thehusband and wife till the age of 85–86. But
once again nowthat it doesn't support anything else, especially not expensive
health relatedcomplications outside the insurance cover.

Q10         Whydo ALL people have a smell to them? How come no human is
odourless?

humans from other animals.
