Q4: Birds of the same feather flocks

It was an open secret that Duryodhana wanted to usurp the kingdom of
the Pāṇḍavas by evil plans, in collaboration with his father, Dhṛtarāṣṭra.
Therefore, all persons who had joined the side of Duryodhana must have
been birds of the same feather. Arjuna wanted to see them on the
battlefield before the fight was begun, just to learn who they were, but he
had no intention of proposing peace negotiations with them. It was also a
fact that he wanted to see them to make an estimate of the strength which
he had to face, although he was quite confident of victory because Kṛṣṇa
was sitting by his side.

Crows and swans are not birds of the same feather because of their
different mental attitudes. The fruitive workers or passionate men are
compared to the crows, whereas the all-perfect saintly persons are compared
to the swans. The crows take pleasure in a place where garbage is thrown
out, just as the passionate fruitive workers take pleasure in wine and
woman and places for gross sense pleasure. The swans do not take pleasure
in the places where crows are assembled for conferences and meetings. They
are instead seen in the atmosphere of natural scenic beauty where there are
transparent reservoirs of water nicely decorated with stems of lotus
flowers in variegated colors of natural beauty. That is the difference
between the two classes of birds.

Nature has influenced different species of life with different mentalities,
and it is not possible to bring them up into the same rank and file.

Similarly, there are different kinds of literature for different types of
men of different mentality. Mostly the market literatures which attract men
of the crow's categories are literatures containing refused remnants of
sensuous topics. They are generally known as mundane talks in relation with
the gross body and subtle mind. They are full of subject matter described
in decorative language full of mundane similes and metaphorical
arrangements. Yet with all that, they do not glorify the Lord. Such poetry
and prose, on any subject matter, is considered decoration of a dead body.
Spiritually advanced men who are compared to the swans do not take pleasure
in such dead literatures, which are sources of pleasure for men who are
spiritually dead. These literatures in the modes of passion and ignorance
are distributed under different labels, but they can hardly help the
spiritual urge of the human being, and thus the swanlike spiritually
advanced men have nothing to do with them. Such spiritually advanced men
are called also mānasa because they always keep up the standard of
transcendental voluntary service to the Lord on the spiritual plane. This
completely forbids fruitive activities for gross bodily sense satisfaction
or subtle speculation of the material egoistic mind.

Smd Bhagavatham 1 5 10: *na yad vacaś citra-padaṁ harer yaśo*

*jagat-pavitraṁ pragṛṇīta karhicit tad *vāyasaṁ* tīrtham uśanti mānasā*

*na yatra *haṁsā n*iramanty uśik-kṣayāḥ// *

VAYASAAM=crow.  Hamsa= Swans.

Those words which do not describe the glories of the Lord, who alone can
sanctify the atmosphere of the whole universe, are considered by saintly
persons to be like unto a place of pilgrimage for crows. Since the
all-perfect persons are inhabitants of the transcendental abode, they do
not derive any pleasure there.

       *प्रकृतेः* *क्रियमाणानि* *गुणैः* *कर्माणि* *सर्वशः* *। *
*अहङ्कारविमूढात्मा* *कर्ताहमिति* *मन्यते* *॥२७॥* *B G 3 27*

prakṛteḥ kriyamāṇāni guṇaiḥ karmāṇi sarvaśaḥ ahaṅkāra-vimūḍhātmā kartāham
iti manyate

*prakṛteḥ*—of material nature; *kriyamāṇāni*—all being done; *guṇaiḥ*—by
the modes; *karmāṇi*—activities; *sarvaśaḥ*—all kinds of;
*ahaṅkāra-vimūḍha*—bewildered
by false ego; *ātmā*—the spirit soul; *kartā*—doer; *aham*—I; *iti*—thus;
*manyate*—thinks.

The bewildered spirit soul, under the influence of the three modes of
material nature, thinks himself to be the doer of activities, which are in
actuality carried out by nature.

*It is said, "Birds of a feather flock together." In this world, everyone
is attracted by a person of the same category. A drunkard is attracted to
persons who are also drunkards. Similarly, a saintly person is attracted by
other saintly persons.*

Every conditioned soul is influenced by a particular mixture of the modes
of material nature. As such, the conditioned soul is attracted to certain
types of activity which he is forced to perform because he is completely
under the influence of material nature. The conditioned soul is attracted
by the objects of sense gratification. His eyes are attracted to see
beautiful things, his ears are attracted to hear nice music, his nose is
attracted to enjoy the aroma of a nice flower, and his tongue is attracted
to taste nice food. Similarly, all his other senses—his hands, his legs,
his belly, his genitals, his mind, etc.—are so susceptible to the
attraction of the objects of enjoyment that he cannot restrain himself. It
is said, "Birds of a feather flock together." In this world, everyone is
attracted by a person of the same category. A drunkard is attracted to
persons who are also drunkards. Similarly, a saintly person is attracted by
other saintly persons. It is said, therefore, that a man is known by his
company.

Thus, the adage is in good and bad taste as th Guna karma Vibaga: alone gts
the good and bad flocks. Nature is the running elements. Dridarashtra,
duryodhana, Dussadhana, Lakshmana etc were on the wrong flocks, whereas,
Dharma along with the other Pandavas were with Lord Krishna, the Good Flock.

The war of Mahabhartham, wiped the bad flocks all together leaving
behind the desired results. A great siddha verse is

NANADAVANATHIL ORE andi, avan naalaaru MATHAMAY kuyavanai VENDI , kondu
vandhaan oru THONDI; adhaik koothaadi, Koothaadi, pottu udaithaandi”

People use to sk a meaning that all those who danced behind the bad flocks,
went dead without the desired result, spoiling the GOOD ONES.
      It is also  averse philosophically; the Kuyavan the pot maker s GOD;
one prayed to GOSD for a child; and thus having got a child after 4+6= 10
months, did not rear it well and allowed to go a waste. So too the Kauravas
made the working conditions useless to them even. Flock is dangerous. KR
