CULTURAL QA06-2022-24 BEING ACOMPILATION THERE MAY BE ERRORS
Q1 Can we use air conditioner waterwhich is dripping out from the outlet? A1 Gopala Krishnan, Former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at Department of Telecom (1966–2004) Just now A liquid appearing somewhat similar to water is coming throughthe outlet tube. The liquid is due to chemical reaction/condensation. I haveextended one of the tubes from Samsung AC to ground and the soil is gettingwet. Another one ispermitted to fall on cemented floor and found the area darkened. This is fromLG air conditioner. Another outlet from Samsung AC is made to fallon cemented ground. There no darkening occurs.I clean the darken area using bleaching powder occasionally to avoid slippingin the area due to growth of small algae. I do not know for what purpose the 1–2 cups of the liquid can be used.It is best to fall it on ground if possible. My note- In flatsnormally the liquid is collected in a bucket and thrown through outlet pipes. Q2 Why is mango the fruit so popular? A2 Lucia Garcia Worked at Hospitals Sun Mango is one of thefamous tropical fruits, which is very popular because of its delicate flesh and unique flavor. Mango combines theessence of tropical fruits, which is not only delicious, but also has very highnutritional value, known as the "tropical fruit king" in the world. Most importantly, mango is an excellent source of natural phenolic compounds such as mangiferin, quercetin, anthocyanins, atechins, kaempferol, rhamnetin, propyl, benzoic acid, gallic, methyl gallate, ellagic acids, and protocatechuic acid. Oxidative damage isresponsible for many chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure, heartdisease, kidney disease, diabetes, cancer, human aging and so on. Mango polyphenolshave strong antioxidant capacity, and their antioxidant function has beenwidely proven and continues to receive widespread attention. Mango polyphenols mainly function as antioxidants, whichcan effectively protect cells from oxidative stress damage, strengthen the human immune system, and avoid the risk of various chronicdiseases. In addition, mangoes are rich in fructose and glucose, which are monosaccharides that can bequickly absorbed by the body. Eating mangoes can supplement nutrition and restore physical strength. A medium mangoweighs about 200 grams and contains only 120 calories. Eat 1 mangoes withoutworrying about gaining weight. Eating 1mango a day is very beneficial to your health, especiallyduring the epidemic of COVID-19. My note- For many diabeticseating mangoes may increase blood sugar level. For some it does not increase blood sugar level. Q3 Why has the colour of the IndianRailways changed from brown to blue? A3 Brijith Siberson Sun This is what thebrown and beige colour scheme now looks like, see how dirty it is!! yes, colourchange is necessary at frequent duration (5 or 10 years). But, go for the onewhich at least can be maintained for aesthetic looks. Simply, This colorcombination is not suited for India, where cleaning works are negligible. Thesetrain appear dirtier than old blue coaches. Trains represent “an image” ofrespective countries, its prosperity. My NOTE- Nowadaystrain coaches have different colour for the body, depend on the category of thetrain. Q4 What is the maximum voltage that canappear in our home appliance power plug? A4 Chintan Patel ,BE in ElectricalEngineering, Electrical Engineering in Birla Vishvakarma MahavidyalayaEngineering College (Graduated 2017)7y Generally 230voltage is available at home appliances plug but it is a rms value of voltage. So themaximum voltage will be 325 V. In power systemmaximum 5% voltage fluctuation is allowed so maximum voltage at home appliancesplug is 342 V. Note: this is datais for Indian power system. Q5 Why is Hyderabad a better city thanChennai? A5 Ashwin(அஷ்வின்) Livesin Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India (2021–present)Tue Hmm. Interesting. I think I amqualified enough to answer this as I am a Tamilian who was born in Chennai, stayed for five years(approx.) and then migrated to Hyderabad and stayed eversince then for 13 years, then came to Chennai for my bachelor’s.(current) City life:- Hyderabad and Chennai have their waysof city life. Hyderabad is much more cosmopolitan than Chennai. Chennai is morelively when there is any event in the city, but Hyderabad is always cheerfulthanks to the people of Hyderabad who are diverse unlike Chennai which ismostly Tamilians. Road and traffic:- Chennai has good roads(plains)but terrible traffic sense. Hyderabad doesn’t have as good roads as Chennai(alot of potholes) but has good traffic sense amongst its commuters. Transportation:- Ha! No doubt Chennai. Chennaihas almost all types of transport, you name it. That is why I think Chennai is named Detriot of Asia.Metro train, MTC, MRTS, Auto, Airways, Seaways. And for Intra city commutation, there is nothing as good as MTC(bus). These MTC operates and connects almostall of Chennai and is fun to use. Then MRTS(parakkum rail) is also used acrossthe most important points of Chennai and Chennai beach-Velachery route is oneof the most frequently used trains in MRTS. Then metro. Metro train is really well designed in some parts and poorlydesigned in others. And that is why the metro isn’t that frequently used, unlike Hyderabad where HMRL has become such anintegral part of daily commuter’s life in Hyderabad. Tourism:- Hands down Chennai. Tamil Nadudominates the list of yearly domestic and international tourists. So in thatway, I can tell you Chennai attracts a lot of tourists because of its culturalsites and British-style architecture along with many other natural spots tovisit. Hyderabad too has many places to visit but can’t match Chennai. Food:- I would say it as a tie. Both have goodplaces to eat. Hyderabad is famous for its Kebabs and biriyani while Chennai isfamous for its variety of food cuisines present in the city. Name any dish, youwill find in Chennai. And Chennai is the home to many food vloggers such asIrfan’s view, Peppa foodie, Idris explorers, etc. So for food, Chennai has itall. Just you need to ask your local guide to know what is available at whichplace. IT companies presence and work:- ObviouslyHyderabad. Chennai also has IT parks and companies but is not as impressive anddominating as Hyderabad. Hyderabadhas all the top product-based companies one can possibly think of.Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Dell, PayPal, etc. If IT in Chennai was really good, then why would my family shift from Chennai to Hyderabad? Land costs:- Hands down Hyderabad. Hyderabad’scost of living is much less compared with Chennai. To get a good 2BHK/3BHK inChennai you need to go to outskirts like OMR, Porur, Ambattur, and Tambaram andto get a house in the same configuration at a good place such as Besant Nagar,Anna Nagar Adyar, Egmore, Chepauk, Mylapore, etc. isjust close to impossible and even buying a house there will also cost high fora basic 1BHK as well. That is not the case in Hyderabad. Trust me,personal experience. Cleanliness and sanitation:- I would give it toHyderabad. Chennai is good but not all places are good. Central Chennai is thebest place to reside and it is maintained well. other places are good but notmaintained as good as the central Chennai and when there is a flood or some water-based calamity inChennai(very often), the city takes a lot of days or weeks to recover from itand it suddenly becomes dirty as Chennai doesn’t have a good drainage systemand this is really bad for a metropolitan city like Chennai. Cinema:- Chennai is the absolute place forcinema. If Hyderabad has Prasads, AMB we have Sathyam(SPI), Mayajaal, Rohini,Jazz, AGS and many more. And the theatres here are much more premium andcheaper compared to Hyderabad. Industrialization:- No doubt Chennai. Peace, Law and order:- Chennai is much betterwhen it comes to peace and religious harmony. I myself have seen Hyd bombblasts in 2013(Kukatpally) and it was a shocker to see this happen inHyderabad. These are less in Chennai and the whole city will stand if somethingis really wrong against Tamilians(Jallikattu protest done at Marina Beach,Kaveri water dispute, Sterlite attack, etc.). And Chennai has one of the bestpolice forces in India and their work has been so invaluable to the city’s lawand order though having corrupt politicians and parties ruling the governmentone after the other in the state. College and education:- Obviously Chennai. It hasall the top colleges irrespective of the degree you want to study and many Hyderabadiscome to Chennai acknowledging this fact. Final verdict:- If you want to have an all-aroundlife(especially techies), Hyderabad is the place to go. But if you are someonewho wants to excel in the field of automobiles, industrialization, tourism, seatrade and real estate then Chennai is the place to go. And now, the IT scene has changed a lot since we leftChennai(2008). Now many companies aresetting up their offices in Chennai, especially OMR(Sholinganallur, Siruseri,Navallur). OMR is the hub of modern Chennai’s IT companies and you will findalmost 75–80% of all IT companies in this place. and other IT parks in Adyar,Kilpauk, Guindy, etc. and the city has started to become cleaner andease of living is much better now and placed much higher than Hyderabad. So the choice is yours. Q6 Is the UK rail service as good asthe German or French? A6 Nicholas Stone Extensive life longinterest in public transport. Tue I have travelledextensively by train across the UK, Germany and France. Both the UK and French railway networks are focussed ontheir capital cities, with trunk routes radiatingoutwards. Germany’snetwork reflects the country’s polycentric population, business and governmentcentres. A French TER trainwhich operates on secondary or rural routes. The French high speed trains are excellent, ifsometimes cramped. The TGV will take you across the country in a few hours. The German high speed trains are more comfortable, but lessfast. The UK has a limited high speed network, the many longdistance trains operating at no more than 200 km/h. German and UK long distancetrain services tend to be more frequent than their French counterparts. The UK operatorGreater Anglia has rolled a fleet of new trains across the network in Eastern England. Rural services inFrance are patchy and infrequent. The UK does have an impressive rural network, with efforts to run trains at 2 hourly intervals. Germany excels ininterregional services and services within conurbations. Across all three countries, overnight sleeper trains arefew. The focus is scheduling passenger on profitable fast day time trains. A double deckerintercity train in Germany. Local tram networks in Germany and France are moreextensive than in the UK. Germany has over 35 tram networks.Since 1985, France has opened an impressive 20 new tram networks. In the UK,there are just 7 networks. UK rail fares arecomplex, convoluted and with duplicated sales offered across multiple websites.UK season tickets and flexible one way tickets can be extortionate. Germanynational website is easier to use and offers better value fares - supported bya national railcard. France’s national website can be cumbersome - but areaffordable advance purchase tickets. Q7 Is 90 ampere battery enough for onefan and 2 bulbs? A7 Swagatam Majumdar,Founder ofhomemade-circuits.com 29m Assuming you arereferring to an inverter using a 12V 90 Ah battery for powering a 220V regularsize fan, and a couple of 220V LED bulbs, then yes the 90 Ah battery is quiteenough for powering those gadgets for many hours. 2nd answer- Gopala Krishnan, Former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at Department of Telecom (1966–2004)Just now I have read theanswer of Smt. Swagatam Majumdar. Assuming inverter battery of 90 AH fanconsuming above 70 watts and two LED bulbs are used consuming each 20 wattstotal consumption per hour is 110 watts. There is power loss in the inverter. Ageof battery is an important criteria. So assuming the battery is new inverter will work for about 8 hours. If the battery is about 4 years old, warranty of three years is over, efficiency of battery would have com to 50%. In that case the battery may withstand only 4hours or even less. After warranty period we cannot expect more than50% efficiency Q8 Does boiling vegetables really takeaway nutrients compared to eating them raw? A8 Alice Twain Eating and cooking for40 years. Sun Yes and no. Some nutrientsdisperse in the water or are sensible to heat, but at the same time cooking allows you to eatcertain vegetables that can't be had raw. In the end, though, thegoal is to eat more vegetables. To do so you should eat vegetables in manydifferent ways: raw in salads, sauteed, stir-fried, braised, roasted, panfried, deep fried (not too often, but once in a while it's OK), and if you likethem also steamed and boiled. Q9 Is there any branch of biology(except zoology and botany) which has no chemistry? A9 Ken Saladin,Former professor ofhistology (microscopic anatomy)Jun 16 There are fields of biology that require little or no useof chemistry. However, at least in the U.S., Idon’t think you can get a bachelor’s degree in biology anywhere without atleast 1 year of chemistry and often 2 years. And without at least a bachelor’sdegree, there’s not much you can do in biology as a career. Biology is the study of life. All life is based onchemistry. Q10 What is a commercial electrician?
