Q1 What is the RBC?

A1  The red blood cell count is ameasure of the number of RBCs in the  body.

Q2 What is the WBC?

A2 WBCs (alsocalled leukocytes) help the body fight infection. These cellsare
bigger than red blood cells, and there are far fewer of them in thebloodstream.
Anabnormal white blood cell count may indicate that there is an
infection, inflammation, or other stress in the body. For example, abacterial
infection can cause the WBC count to increase or decreasedramatically.

Q3 What is the ThePlatelet Count ?

A3 Platelets are the smallest blood cells. They play an important role in blood
clotting and the prevention of bleeding.

When a blood vessel is damaged or cut, platelets clump together and plug up the
hole until the blood clots. If the platelet count is toolow, a person can be in
danger of bleeding in any part of the body.
My note-If platelet count is meagre there is possibility of sudden death-
intimated to me by my nephrologist when I was admitted inICU before 10 years
back. Hedid not explain the reason

Q4 Why Are the Spleen and Lymphatic System Necessary?

A4 One of thelymphatic system's major jobs is to collect extra lymph fluidfrom
body tissues and return it to the blood. This process isimportant because
water, proteins, and other substances are continuouslyleaking out of tiny blood
capillaries into the surrounding body tissues. Ifthe lymphatic system didn't
drain the excess fluid from the tissues, the lymphfluid would build up in the
body's tissues, and they would swell.

The lymphatic system is a network of verysmall tubes (vessels) that drain
lymph fluid fromall over the body. Lymph nodes are round or kidney shaped. They
canbe up to 1 inch in diameter. Most of the lymph nodes arefound in clusters in
the neck, armpit, and groin area

Q5 What isTonsillitis.?

A5  Tonsillitis is caused by an infection ofthe  tonsils, thelymphoid tissues
in the back of the mouth at the top  of the throat that normally help to
filterout bacteria.

When the tonsils are infected, they become swollen and inflamed, and can cause
asore throat, fever, and difficulty swallowing.

The infection can also spread to the throatand surrounding areas,  causing
pain andinflammation. Someonewith repeated      tonsil infections mayneed to
have them removed in a procedure called a tonsillectomy.

Q6 What is theaverage quantity of blood in a grown up human ?

A6 You know whatblood is its that red stuff that oozes out if you get a paper
cut. The averageperson has about 1 to 1-½ gallons (4-6 liters) of it

Q7 How Does theBody Make Blood??

A7  Its not made in a kitchen, but blood hasingredients, just like a recipe. To
make blood, your body needsto mix: * *red blood cells*, which carry oxygen
throughout the body * *whiteblood cells*, which fight infections * *platelets*,
which are cells that helpyou stop bleeding if you get a cut .plasma, a
yellowishliquid that carries nutrients, hormones, and proteins throughout the
body.

Your body doesntgo to the store to buy those ingredients. It makes them. Bone
marrow that goopy stuff inside your bones makes the red blood cells, the white
blood cells, and the platelets.

Plasma ismostly water, which is absorbed from the intestines from what youdrink
and eat, with the liver supplying important proteins. Put all theseingredients
together and you have blood

Q8 Do Blood andbreathing go hand in hand?

A8 Yes. Thehemoglobin in blood delivers oxygen, which you get from the air you
breathe, toall parts of your body

Q9 What isGranulocytes ?

A9 Granulocytes-You know how your skin gets a little red and swollen around a
cut or scrape? That means the granulocytes are doing their jobs
