BEING  A COMPILATIONTHERE MAY  BE ERRORS

Q1         Doold wires and corrosion cause low voltage?

A1         Gopala Krishnan, Former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at
Department of Telecom (1966–2004) Just now

Corrosion and joints in old wire increase resistance. So when fixed voltage is
sent on line due to corrosion  resistance is more and current can be less. There
will be a currentdrop.

Voltage drop canoccur due to many reasons. An example is an old transformer.
Though goodvoltage is applied on primary due to increase in resistance output
voltage canbe low.

Often current drop is told as voltagedrop- a mis-norm

Where there is a double track, most UK trainsoperate on the left. This is the
same as the UK roads, where traffic also circulates on the left.

Among theexceptions is the Ffestiniog Railway. This is a mainly a single track
operations, but where there are double track section, trains travel in the right
hand trackin the direction of travel.

Q4         Whatdocuments should we check before buying any land?

A4         Ultra Tech Cement, India’s No 1 Cement.Updated 10mo

Once you decide tobuy a plot, make sure you have all documents in place.
Without these, yourpurchase will be delayed. Having all the proper legal
documentation will helpprotect your land and home from any disputes in the
future. Consult a lawyer tohelp you with every step of the documentation
process.

Most of the required documents can be grouped into twotypes - legal and
personal.

Legal documents: These documents are essential, and missing even one of these
can result in a delay in purchase.

They include: -

Mother Deed: This is taken from the seller. TheMother Deed is the main document
to determine ownership of the property. Ittraces the land’s chain of ownership
and provides information about the historyof the plot.

Sales Deed: The Sales Deed records the transfer ofland ownership from the
seller to the buyer. You can get it validated at thesub-registrar's office.

Power of Attorney(POA): If the seller of the land isnot the owner, they should
have a Power of Attorney that authorizes them tosell the plot. Always check the
Power of Attorney when buying from any seller.

Encumbrance Certificate: An EncumbranceCertificate documents all the
transactions related to the land. It serves asproof that the land you are
buying is free of anymonetary or legal bindings. It is obtained from the
sub-registrar’soffice where land is registered.

Katha certificate: A Khata Certificate is necessaryto obtain a building
license. It contains property details like location, size,built-up area etc.
and is necessary for the payment of property tax and toobtain a building
license. It is obtained from the Assistant Revenue Officer.

Land Clearance: If you wish to convert agriculturalland to non-agricultural
land this certificate becomes very essential.

Record Of Rights (ROR) certificate: It is obtainedfrom the Tehsildar’s office

Personal documents: Personal documents arepurely for verification purposes:
Aadhar, Voter ID card and PAN card.

Things to keep inmind:

In case the selleris not the owner, check the ‘power of attorney’ document.

To make suremeasurements mentioned by seller are accurate, get a survey sketch
of the landfrom Survey Department.

If there are more than one owner, make sure to get ‘releasecertificate’ from
all owners.

Q5         Whatare the benefits of train travel in the UK?

A5         Nicholas Stone, Life long interest intrains. Sat

There are many benefits of train travel in the UK.

Train journeysbetween UK cities are often faster than comparable road journeys.
From London to Edinburgh, thetrain journey typically takes 4 hrs 20 mins. By
car, the same journey is nearer7 hours. By coach, expect the journey to last 10
hours. Manchester,Liverpool, Glasgow, Cardiff, Leeds, Sheffield and Bristol are
all quicker fromLondon by train than in a motor vehicle.

UK trains efficiently carry people. A busy 12carriage 240 metre long commuter
train can carry 800 passengers. This is theequivalent of 400 cars based on
typical occupancy. At speed, 400 cars require16 km of road space to keep them
safely separated. Electric trains areparticular efficient with some of their
energy from renewable sources - whichcurrently make up 20–30% of national
energy supplies. A car solely usinginternal combustion uses only energy with
cannot be renewed.

A electric traintravelling at 200 km/h on the West Coast Mainline. Journeys by
comparable roadmotor coach or motor car are often longer. Picture source:
Railway TechnologyMagazine.

Almost anyone can use a UK passenger train. Toboard, you just need a ticket. To
drive a motor car, you’ll need a licence, insurance, roadworthy documentation
and the use of the vehicle. Many people in the UK neither have a driving
licence nor acar.

On board the train, you can relax or work or enjoy the passing scenery. There
are many routes withcountry, coastline or riverbank views. While on board, you
can walk along thetrain to stretch your leg or even have a snooze. These
options are notavailable to the motorist while driving.

You can oftentake a bicycle free of charge on a UK passenger train. In many
cases, I cycle from home to the railway station, take my bike on thetrain with
me and then cycle from station at the other end of the railwayjourney to my
destination.

I have travelledacross the UK many times - and often enjoy the experience.
Overall, my total annual train faresare less than the equivalent cost of owning
and operating a road vehicle.

Q6         Tirupati,Andhra Pradesh, India: Why do so many devotees flock to
tirumala?

A6         Gautham Sampath, Knows Tamil Mon

Well Thirumala orThirumalai Temple is very famous and is regarded as the
richest temple in theworld that receives donations

Why didn’t anyother temple took this place while Thirumala could do this and
its all because of Faith!!!Beleif!!! Trust!!! but there are some cultural and
historicalreasons too and let’s look at those.

Thirumala!

Of the devotees whovisit a lot to Thirumala-Most of them come from 4
states-Andhra Pradesh,Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and some from Kerala,
Maharashtra and Goa.

With the word ofmouth from past 20 years even Northern Indians have started to
visit thistemple when they do a temple tour in Southern India.

For the people ofAndhra and Telangana , their main and most important God is
Lord Venkateshwaraand thus many Telugites keep on taking yathra to Thirupathi
every year.

I have seen Telugites going crazy over Balaji and havingsaid that they name
their children with many names of Lord Balajiand even they visit the temple on
a regular basis.-Many Telugites have LordBalaji has their home God and thus its
compulsory to have the darshan theirhome God temple every year.

Historically thistemple got so much patronage from Vijayanagar kings and
queens(and by manyother Telugu kings like Aravidu dynasty) and thus Thirupathi
temple is veryfamous among Telugites.

Background of Telugu marriages, they always have aThirupathi Balaji photo or
replica.

For the people ofTamil Nadu, Lord Perumal is the 3rd most famous God after
Murugan and LordShiva. Many families have Lord Perumal as their home God and
its important tovisit the temple atleast once a year.

Also historically the temple was built by Pandyas and thethe Tamil kingdoms
like Cholas ,Pandyas have given manydonations.( Also the story of Thirumalai is
connected to the Sangam Cholas).

Also its said that Thirupathi and Thirumala is mentionedas “Thiru Vengadam” in
Tamil literature andwas considered as the ancient border village between the
Tamilakam region andthe Vadugar region(Andhra region).-Thirupathi is just 56 km
from the nearest TNborder and hence Tamil devotees easily feel connection to
the temple. Also thetemple is easily accesscible from eastern and Southern side
as west andnorthern side has thick mountains and forests.

This temple gets mention as one of the important 108Divya Desams by Alwars and
the pontiffs who maintainthis temple are from both Tamil region and Andhra
region(who were appointed byRamanujacharya in the past , again a Tamilakam
Telugite).

Certain hymnsin Tamil from Divya Prabhandam is also chanted as the temple has
Tamil priests.

Kannadigas sweetlycall Lord Balaji as “Thimappa” there are so many meanings to
this name like-strong personality, one who has magical abilities and great
creative skills.

If you ask anyKannadiga “where you went?” after they go and come back from
Thirupathi , theysay “Thimmapanannu darshana maadi bande”-”I went to have the
Darshan ofThimappa”

Again Vijayanagarand other Karnataka empires gave a lot of patronage to the
temple and even manyKannadigas have a norm of visiting the temple atleast once
a year.

Common things for these 3 cultural people.

Kannadigas,Teliugus and Tamils have two month dedicated to the worship of
LordVenkateshwara- That is Shravanaor Purattasi and the Saturdays in this month
is dedicated to theworship of Lord Balaji in their homes by offering him food
and making his Tilakon the forehead.(Saavan in Northern India is dedicated to
Shiva but here inSouth it's for Vishnu)

The month of Dhanuror Maargazhi is also dedicated to the worship of Perumaal
where Thirupathipriests recite the Thirupaavai(hymn of Aandal) in Tamil instead
of Suprabatham which is in Sankskrit.

Then all these 4state people dedicate a Hundi where they save money and take
that money toThirumala and offer it to him.( This money is put into the Hundion
everySarturdays ).

There are manythings that people donate to Thirupathi like many people from
these 4 statesdonate lands to Thirupathi.

Sandalwood for Thirumala foes from Karnataka.

Then there is a ritual of bringing the sacred umbrellasand flowers from Sri
Rangam temple on special occasion.

Then the festivalof Brahmotsavam takes place in the holy month of Purattasi(
Saavan month ofTamils).

Then we have somany inscriptions in Tamil, Telugu ,Kannada and Sanskrit found
in the templeand the surrounding regions of Thirupathi.

Then we have aTamil saying that goes- “Thirupathi ponaal, Thirupam varum.” - If
you toThirupathi, a good change will happen”

Then we have peoplefrom all these 4 states who believe that if you do marriage
in Thirupathi ,thelife will be very good and hence many people do a get tied a
2nd marriageknotin Thirupathi after the normal one back in their place.

Also itssaid that Thirupathi was heavily infested with wild animals in past
(now alsohere and there wild animals are getting spotted) and thus when
visiting, whole village or whole family members visit itin group so to avoid in
contact with wild animals and this practise continuesto this day even after all
the developments.

Also during thattime, people used to carry money and gold to offer and thus
dacoits and banditswere common in the surrounding place who used to loot the
money but when you goas a group, people wouldn’t be attacked.

Thus Thirupathigets visitors always in high numbers due to these factors.

Personally even I have felt the magic of Lord Venkateshwara, after visting
Thirupathi , many changes has takenplace in my life like getting a Job like
that and people have so many dreams toachieve and once they achieve that they
visit Thirumala to give a thanks tohim.

Thus all thesefactors make people to flock Thirumala continously year after year

Q7         Whydo humans still drink animal milk in 2022?

A7         Mats Andersson ,Lives in Sweden16h

Well, personally, it's because I've evolved to drink it.

My ancestors triedto live off agriculture in an area where the sunlight is so
weak that humansrisk vitamin D deficiency. Consuming dairy, which contains
vitamin D, means you can avoid theworst effects. Those of my ancestors who
evolved lactasepersistence, so they could digest milk as adults, had more
offspring and passedtheir genes on to me.

I have thecomplexion of unbaked bread for the same reason.

I hasten to addthat there's nothing particularly clever about any of this. It's
only aboutsunlight. Tibetans have bigger lungs and more red blood cells as a
result ofhaving evolved adaptations to high altitude. Not better or worse,
justdifferent.

Q8         Doesit matter what laundry detergent you use?

A8         Venkateswara Swamy Swarna,FormerScientist, Metallurgist, Quality /
NDT Manager at Department of Atomic Energy,India (1967–2008)1y

It does. Cleaning the clothes is the primary functionbut removing the smell and
adding a nice smell is an added function of many andsome of them can be
allergic. My wife isvery sensitive and she could not wear the clothes washed
with one big detergentbrand…so, I had to buy another brand and give the stock
of the earlierdetergent to some one else. So,don’t change brands if you are
sensitive. Try smaller packs firstand then only switch for the bigger packs.

Q10              Domerchant navy ships start their voyage from the same port?
If not, what is theprocedure and the places where the voyage starts?

A10       Arun Visvanathan, Former Sea Captain atMerchant Navy (1990–2016) Sat

Some ships known as liners work a fixed route. They load at certain ports and
discharge at certain ports. Today this mainlycontainer ships but in the past
even gen cargo ships had fixed runs. Though it was before my time, one ship of
which I was Master ran a fixed run from India to the US West Coast. She would
start at Bombay, halt at Calcutta and Taiwan and then proceed to theUS running
up and down the West Coast before returning to India. Oneofficer was Master for
24 months. When I enquired one of the old hands told me,“He was a bachelor with
a girlfriend in the US. When the ship arrived, the GFwould stay on board while
he traded on the coast before disembarking.” Wellorganised.

Some tankers and bulk carriers on long term charters alsoload and discharge at
fixed ports. Poompuhar, theTamil Nadu government owned shipping company, was
tasked with carrying coal tothermal plants in Tamilnadu. The ships, 3 owned and
15–20 chartered, would load at Haldia/Paradip/Vizag anddischarge at
Chennai/Tuticorin.

Most Indian flagships on international voyages would load in an Indian port,
sail to Europe, pick up cargo and return to India. The voyage was deemed to have
commenced andended in India.

Most ships however, are tramps. They load anywhere anddischarge anywhere. I
joined one ship in Brazil andloaded frozen chicken for discharge in Jeddah.
Then in ballast to Japan. Loadedreconditioned cars for discharge in Puerto
Rico. Then in ballast to Chile toload fruit for discharge in Europe.
