CULTURAL QA 09-2022-13

BEING  ACOMPILATION THERE MAY  BE ERRORS

Q1         Why is Chennai worse when compared toHyderabad or Bangalore?

A1          Venkatesh Kulkarni,Former Product atMultinational Corporations Sat

First thing first… don't call any city as worse. Even if its worst people in
crores livethere , that wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't a good city.

However it's a bitresistant to culture change and language etc. Tamilians have
been protecting the city from externalinfluence and safeguarding the language
from outsiders entering the city.Reason being they are proud of their language
than people of other cities.

The culture is strong in Tamil Nadu and things getcustomised to the population
instead of vice versa.

So no one can tellthem to learn their language and instead learn to respect
Tamil. Pub culturehas come from West to India, although there are lot of pubs
people don'tdisrespect coffee or idli over the western culture and food.

Weather and humidity are a bit extreme, so outsides don'tfind it easily
adaptable.

My note- When I was to purchase a land iin Chennai,  I asked leave for a few
days to my GM. My GMhome close to my native  first asked why you desire to go
to Chennai, having water difficulties leaving your home town in Kerala. I told
the reasonthat my wife is born in Tamilnadu and co brothers are there, though
hepermitted leave asked me tore- think again before a purchase.

For outside peopleChennai is having extreme heat and always having water
scarcity. Though aftersettling here I could adjust to climate, always water
scarcity is a problem in Chennai and suburbanareas.

Q2         Which one should I choose as per yourroom size, a wall fan or a
ceiling fan?

A2          Gopala Krishnan, Former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at
Department of Telecom (1966–2004)Just now

Normally wall fanis provided when there is no provision of hook  for mounting a
ceiling fan or ceiling fan isnot safe. I am from India, writing this answer. We
have prayer room. Prayerroom is provided with two roofing, one at about seven
feet and another at 11feet, regular roofing over ground floor and stairs to
first floor. The conceptis one should not walk overthe pooja room directly. So
wall fan is provided.

In the corridor aloft was provided. Though provision for ceiling fan was made,
it is risky totake any thing from loft when ceiling fan  was running. So wall
fan is provided.

In my son’s flatthere was no hook provision in the study room and so two wall
fans wereprovided. But still it was not sufficient, split AC wiring was done
afresh andair-conditioner provided.

Q3         I want to purchase a flat in my wife'sname, my wife and I have a
joint bank account. My wife is a housewife. Can Ipurchase the flat in her name?

A3          Mani Shankar, As a counselor, experienced in counselling
parents/couples on emotional issues. Fri

Yes. You can purchase the flat in your wife’s name, but youmust keep in mind
the following points:

If you are going topay towards purchase of house from your savings and in case
you intend to letout the flat, the rental income will be clubbed in your
taxable income as youhave used your funds.

If you are planningto take a bank loan, you cannot claim income tax rebate
towards housing loaninterest as the property will be in your wife’s name.

Bank will give loanonly to the person whose name appears in the sale deed. So,
whenyou buy the flat in wife’s name, they will ask you to become a joint owner
sothat recovery of EMI becomes secured for bank.

These are just myguesses. You will have to check with Bank and a qualified tax
consultant forthe implications before buying the house.

My note- Leaving all such things, always it is safe topurchase a property in
joint name with wife/husband. This ensureswife/husband as legal heir after the
unfortunate death of the other.

Q4         Where can I buy groceries cheap inChennai?

A4          Mani Muthu, Lives in Chennai, TamilNadu, India (1987–present)Sun

Reliance smart, More supermarket, Gracesupermarket.. But no one can match the
discount given by Dmart. Currently ithas 3 branches in Chennai

Q6         Why do some people lift their housesnowadays?

A6          Akshay Garg, Principal Partner -Architect at AMDD Designs
(2014–present)Sun

Hi Sandeep! Thanksfor your question. We all know that constructing a new house
right fromexcavation, foundation till its finishing and completion is very
tedious andtime consuming process. It not only involves time but also a lot of
money andefforts to get a dream house.

Today most of the houses built are not very old and thequality of construction
is fairly good. But due to frequent laying of topcarpeting on adjacent roads
near the house (due to pot holes development duringrains - thanks to bad
quality of road construction) the plinth level keeps onreducing with respect to
adjacent road level.

Thus the simplesolution is to lift the plinth of the house (thanks to new
jack-up technologyand available technical know-how) without harming the
structure. This way one can avoidheavy civil works since only digging of
foundation is involved and thenreinstating the same). Also the cost involved is
1/3rd of the total newconstruction cost.

But yes to do this exercise you willneed the involvement of a qualified
Architect, Structure Engineer who wereinvolved in the house earlier or you need
to have complete set ofconstruction drawing for new Architect and Structure
Engineer to study thedrawings along with the House lifting Contractor. Trust

Q8         What is your review of the Atombergceiling fans?

A8          Sampath N,Former Asst. Professor atVelammal Engineering College '10
(2010–2015)Updated May 13

I am using bothsuper fan and atomberg

Both are energy efficient.Once one atomberg fan had an issue within warranty
period but got replaced.Their service is good

Edit at Y 2022

I got BLDC exhaust fan 150 mm size from atomberg for 2000rs, which is 11 watts,
very quite very good throw,Usingit to cool the room in summer, keeping reverse
direction

2ND ANSWER Nikul Kachhadiya,2 yearsFeb 22

Atomberg ceilingfan is very energy efficient. I personally loved the ceiling
fan from atomberg

3RD ANSWER-Bashishtha Singh,Former GeneralManager at Worley (2020–2020)1y

They arepractically of similar performance to normal quality fans. Except they
have remote control operation with 5 speed selection, sleepmode and the low
power consumption of 28 to 32 watts only (due to BLDCtype motor). [Normal fans
have wattage of 50 to 65]. There is only a simple on/off switch required
inwiring. There is small LED indicator in the fan (when switched off from
remoteindicating power on). When the fan starts, it first takes very small
backwardmovement and then starts forward rotation.I am using two fans since
2years, no complain.

Q9         Why do dogs eat grass?

A9          Lucia Garcia, Worked at Hospitals Sun

Dogs areomnivores, they will eat not only meat but vegetables as well.

Many times, healthydogs also like to eat grass.

Compared with humans and other animals, dogs have shorterguts, only about 3
times their body length, whileanimals such as cows, sheep and horses have guts
that are 10 times their bodylength.

The length of the gut is an important factor affectingthe absorption of
nutrients. Therefore, the absorptionrate of nutrients in dogs is relatively
low, and there is often some undigestedfood in their feces.

Grass is an excellent source of fiber. Some animalexperts believe that Eating
Grass is a Form of Self-medication for Dogs.

After fiber enters the dog's gut, it can speed up theperistalsis of the
gastrointestinal tract and improvethe digestibility and absorption rate of food.

Studies haveshown that after three days of feeding dogs a high-fiber diet, dogs
stop eatinggrass completely.

Q10              Not to dismiss evolution, but why, after a couple of million
years, is it so hard to give birth, while chimps findit easier? Did we evolve?

A10        Claire Jordan, Degree in biology andfolklore; programmer, shop
owner, secretary on newspaper Sep 5

Yes, our difficult births are a result of evolution.Human evolution is an
uneasy compromise between wanting our brains to be as bigas possible, wanting
babies to be mature enough at birth to be able to surviveand wanting women to
still be able to run fast, or at least walk efficiently.

Big brains mean babies with big skulls, which means the woman needs a wide
pelvic opening, but if her pelvis is *too*wide she won’t be able to run. We
compromised a bit by having babies who are born a little earlier in
developmentthan chimp babies, and have slightly compressible skulls, but
there’s a limitto how far we can take that, so childbirth is still risky.

If we hadn’t invented Caesarean sections, in another500,000 years or so we
would probably have been having babies with longer, narrower skulls, in order to
contain that big brainin a more aerodynamic shape. But like most species,
humans are still very mucha work in progress.

Q11              How overheating of ceiling fanmotor can be reduced?

A11        Aksha Kowsi, Content Stratergist3y

Fans get heatedbecause of the AC induction motor they use. Continuousoperation
of fans will heat the coils and thus the fan gets heated up.

This problem is notin BLDC fans. BLDcmotors do not get heated up.

2ND ANSWER- How overheating of ceiling fan motor can be reduced? Frank
LeeBored,Educated5y

Take it down andclean all the screens and holes with compressed air. Put it
back up and wireit.

Does the fan startand run at each speed? Stop the blades, set the speed to low,
and turn on. Doesit run? Do this for each speed.

If any of the speeds do not start and spin, then acapacitor is bad. This might
be why the motor is getting hot.

Fans have 1, 2, 3caps, or a single plastic box with 2 or 3 caps inside it. Look
for the mFnumber(s). If you have 3 mf numbers on one cap, this is a triple cap
on a 3speed fan.

Fan mfg each have a unique way of wiring in their fanspeed switch and their fan
capacitor. You must buy thecorrect part or parts. There are more than a dozen
variants of the fan speedcontrol pull switch.
