RAHU, EMA, GULIKAN KALAS
1 Rahu Kalam and Yama Kandam are calculated from the time of sun rise.
Based on the sun rise timings, it differs place to place-subject to the sun
rise timings. If the sun rise is 6.00 am in Chennai on a Monday, then the
Rahu kalam starting timing is 7.30 am; the same would change If the sun
rise is at 7.30 then the Rahu kalam should be from 9.00 am! On Monday. One
has to take the local timings for calculating the Rahu kalam and Yama
Kandam, that is to be calculated from the sun rise timings and adjusted
accordingly.
2 When the Earth’s rotation comes about a specific angle to the Solar
path, the radiations and ultra violet rays are excessively passed on to the
Earth. These specific timings are bracketed as Rahu Kalam and Yama Kandam;
doing any auspicious functions or starting long journey during these
timings are likely to blind ones brain neurons. This might cause harm to
oneself so it was better advised to avoid the Rahu kalam & Yama kandam.
During the timing of Gulikan, it is said that the rays passed on to earth
is very conducive and has cooling stimulations in the brain neuron chips.
Thus, Gulikan timing is recommended to start some functions only as
samskaras do recommend.
3 *Rahu (North Node of Moon)* has the nature of a serpent. It poisons
you to the illusions of this world. It is our desires that keep us
incarnating here. Ultimately the disillusionment leads to the enlightenment
of *Ketu (South Node of Moon)*, who detaches and renounces the world for
spiritual enlightenment. The nodes are the most powerful of all the
planets, for they cause the eclipses of the luminaries, the Sun and Moon.
The nodes block out the light or consciousness.
Co-owned sign and exalted debilitated sign for rahu and ketu are stated
different in varied Vedic scriptures. (Parashar Hora).Rahu owns Aquarius
(kumbha) and Ketu owns Scorpio (Vruschika), rahu moolatrikona sign is
Gemini (Mithuna) ketu moolatrikona sign is Sagittarius (Dhanu). Rahu gets
exalted in taurus and debilitated in Scorpio, ketu gets exalted in Scorpio
and debilitated in taurus. (Rishabam, Vruschika) Rahu and ketu gives best
result in 3rd, 6th and 11th house. However ketu being moksh-karka also
works good in 12th house making the native spiritual and leading a king
like life. Rahu and Ketu give result according to their depositor, sign,
house in which it is placed, aspects and co-junctions. It is also said that
Rahu and Ketu amplify the result of planet they sit with. It means when
co-joins benefic planet, they increase its beneficial tendency to great
extent. Rahu is separative in nature and ketu being inclined towards
attachments spiritually. Suppose rahu is sitting in 7th house or co-joins
7th lord makes separative yoga with wife (Note: according to the degree of
co-junctions with 7th lord, closer makes more separative yoga) but ketu
does opposite to rahu in these positions. They tend opposite qualities, for
example conjunction of rahu + moon makes the native harsh, rude and not to
believe on religion on the other hand conjunction of ketu + moon makes one
spiritual and fickle minded.
4 There is a saying, “Kujwat Ketu Shani Vat Rahu” which means,
Rahu is like Saturn and Ketu is like Mars. Rahu is considered to be a major
benefic in 3, 6,10,11 Upchaya houses and in 10th it is considered most
powerful that can confer all the luxuries of materialistic life.* Rahukalam
differs from place to place depending on Sun-rise & Sun-set time. The day
duration from Sun-rise to Sun-set, at a particular location, is divided
into eight equal parts. There is no Rahu Kalam during the first period of
any weekday. On Monday it falls on the 2nd period, Saturday 3rd period,
Friday 4th period, Wednesday 5th period, Thursday 6th period, Tuesday 7th
period & Sunday 8th period. Emakandam falls continuously after 1 ½ hours
and operates for 1 ½ hrs (which is roughly 4 nazhigai viz 24 minutes is one
nazhigai). Ema kantam from SUNDAY through the MONDAY- in the reverse
order- , STARTS THE cycle from noon and adds by 1 ½ hrs everyday viz 12-1
½; 1 ½-3; -4 30; 6-730; 7 30-9; 9-10 30 and 10 30 12 fining by mid day
-leaving the night and time 4 30 to 6 of Rahu kala timing of Sunday; And
Rahu kalam does not start at the sun rise 6 to 7 30 AM whereas Ema kantan
does on a Thursday. RAHU KALAM HAS THE REMEMBRANCE FORMULA: “TURBAN”.

*5 Rahu kalam formula of remembrance is not needed for the Emalantan
since starting from Noon adding 1 ½ hours everyday, IN THE REVERSE ORDER OF
THE WEEK STARTING FROM SUN, ,SAT. Fri till Monday , leaving 4 30 TO 6 AND
THUS EASY TO REMEMBER. Gulikan does leave 4 30 to 6 PM , as usual but
REVERSE ORDER STARTS FROM TUESDAY TO WEDNES DAY STARTING FROM NOON WITH 1 ½
HRS FOR EACH DAY. *

4 Rahu kalam is calculated as 12 hrs day time divided by 8 ;
or in any place of the earth, take the sumn rise and sun set time, and
calculate the hours in between and divide it by 8; Rahu kalam shall leave
the opening part within 8 equal hrs minutes,; and then apply MOTHER SAW
FATHER FORMULA ON THOSE HOURS; YAMAKANTAM SHOULD LEAVE THE LAST PART THE
EITH PART HOUR,MIN, AND APPLY THE REVERSE ORDER FROM SUN TO MON; Gulikan
calculation is same as YAMA KANTAM, BUT THE REVERSE ORDER IS FROM TUESDAY
TO WEDNESDAY.
