VOLTAGESTABILIZER 

The introduction of voltage stabilizers became more commonafter the fridges of 
different companies appearing in different sizes andmodels by 2004 inIndia. 
These new refrigerators need not require defrost taking out all thingsfrom it, 
and pressing a button. More easy method adopted by many was switchingOFF the 
power supply in old type refrigerators. In about half an hour all iceformation 
in the top area where ice making was done would fall down through theinside of 
body. The fridge was cleaned inside and outside with good cloth andthings were 
kept back. Normally defrosting was done once a week when we couldsee a lot of 
ice formation around that area. Really it had the advantage ofcleaning and 
removing unwanted items from fridge. 

On those days Kelvinator was the most commonly available one with singledoor in 
different sizes and body colours. It was placed over a bottom stand.Earlier 
wooden stands painted were used, later made by tough PVC.  It was common the 
legs of fridges corroding afterabout 12-14 years because of the melted water 
during defrosting remained belowthe legs of the fridge in the stand in spite of 
clear wiping.

Now during defrosting one can observe the refrigerator bodybecome very warm. 

Normally stabilizer required for the refrigerator size issupplied by the 
company itself or suggest suitable one. It is commonly placedabove the 
refrigerator.

After seeing advertisement of Kelvinator air conditioners recently, Imade a 
Google search, got different results, the most suited was whirlpool purchased 
Kelvinator.  

Whirlpool is as sturdy as Kelvinator and now comes with 10years warranty for 
compressor. Latest version is one with a bottom drawer tokeep vegetables at a 
lower temperature. However thismodel is rare now in shops. 

Another area where we use voltage stabilizers is with splitair conditioners. 
This type of voltage regulators are to be mounted in aconvenient position on 
wall. The 15 amps supply to split AC is taken from aceramic power socket with 
high quality moulded plug to voltage stabilizer andoutput given to split AC 
indoor side. It is extended to outdoor unit from theindoor unit by company 
wired circuit through a starting capacitor. The supply to socket iscontrolled 
by a circuit breaker. Normally circuit breaker socket andplug with cable to 
connect air conditioner comes as a unit. In addition thereis a circuit breaker 
in the supply distribution board. 

Where voltage is very variable and becoming low, a boostercircuit is added in 
the voltage stabilizer. This type of stabilizers is 3 times costlier than 
normal one. 

With the appearance of smart TVs, again voltage stabilizer isprovided to the 
input of EB supply and output connected to TV. 

With CCTV in homes most take power supply from UPS viastabilizer to their power 
supply unit. 

In hospitals where costly testing instruments are provided,stabilizer circuit 
is provided. 

In old type TVs of LED/LCD type where one has limited accessibility,practically 
no voltage stabilizer has provided. 

Modems are worst affected during lightening, it is high timemodems come with a 
built in stabilizer circuit. This will also prevent lightweight modem 
frequently falling down even by a hand slip. Another one is water purifierROS 
units which uses power supply. During a heavy lightening their power supplyunit 
is also worst affected.
