BEING  A COMPILATIONTHERE MAY  BE ERRORS

Q1           How do Ikeep my home perfectly clean?

A1           Gopala Krishnan, Former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at
Department of Telecom (1966–2004) Just now

I am from Chennai,India .Nobody can keeptheir home 100% perfect. Keeping about
70% clean is maximum possible. According to Indianprinciples it is not desired
to keep the home 100% perfect.

Personal involvement of all family members is requiredfor up-keeping any home.
Many jobs have to be done byskilled and technical persons. It can be done in a
normal home in India onlyonce a month. Sometimes veryrich can deploy many
skilled and unskilled for works and supervisors to observethey are perfectly
done.

For a middle class or normal upper classfamily can keep somewhat 70% perfect.

Q2           How longshould you soak nuts and seeds before consuming them and
why?

A2           Robert Silver, Professional Gardener| Blogging at
progardeningblog.com Nov 21

Put your nuts and seeds in the fridge to soak for at least20 minutes and up to
three hours or overnight. Generally speaking, it will takelonger for harder
nuts to soften.

Soaking nutsimproves the absorption of their beneficial components, such as
iron, protein, calcium, and zinc. To alleviate indigestion, the phytic acid
found in acidsmust be washed away.

The soaking of nut is an effectivemethod for improving digestion and
maximizing the advantages of theirnutrition.

Q3           Can youshare an impressive plant that bears fruit in the wild?

A3           Journey into the Wild, Answered by VictoriaNg, Nov 13

Jackfruits canweigh very heavy and the tree can grow very large. If you haveany
older tree, you need to be sure you don’t stand under it. Youwill never know if
any ripe fruits would fall to the ground and possibly hurtyou! The jackfruit
tree is possibly the most impressive fruit bearing plant Ihave seen in person.
Even a young dwarf size tree can bear big heavy fruit, letalone one this size!

My note-Though most fruits are cut by climbing on the tree, there are instances
leavingthem on tree, which are bitter on certainbranches or certain trees. In
Kerala it is believed the branches on which rat snake creeped  become bitter.

In my home in Kerala there was a jack fruit tree, inwhich one branch wore
bitter jack fruits and they were not cut and left as itwas. However there was
no instance of jackfruit falling on any person.

Q4           What if Ibook tickets in 3AC in Indian Railways and I wanted my
cat to travel along withme? Is it possible to travel with my cat with me on the
trip?

A4           Prasanna Bhalerao, Knows abouttrains. Wed

The simple answeris “No”.

To travelwith pets, the passengers will have to book the entire coupe- two or
fourberths- in AC First class and First-class compartments only.No pets are
allowed in AC two-tier, AC three-tier, AC chair car, sleeper class, and
second-class compartments.

What to do in this case?

You can book adog-box and the pet will be in the luggage van. Dog-box is a bit
of a misnomerhere - it can be used for a cat also.

You must book thedog-box at least 2 hours in advance.

Whethertravelling in the AC First Class Coupe there is a charge of ₹60/kgfor
the pet. If booked on the dog-box in the parcel van, it is ₹30/kg.

Complete allvaccinations for your pet and keep the certificate ready. Get a
fitnesscertificate from a vet 24-48 hours before departure.

My note- Therewas/ is a rule computer should not be carried along with person.
It had to be carried in parcel van. I have paid finefor carrying my  computer
along with mein 3rd AC sleeper on my retirement  from Trivandrum to Chennai in
2004 end. Iwas not aware of such a rule for a sophisticated equipment in Indian
railways.

Probably Laptopis exemption or rules are changed now

Q5           Is itokay to give water to a person who is not thirsty?

A5           Gopala Krishnan, Former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at
Department of Telecom (1966–2004) Just now

I am from Chennai,India. In some parts of ofTamilnadu, I have seen this
practice. Some give in summer buttermilk. A person can drink water, coffee,
tea, cool drinks etc. at any time. It need not be he must feel thirsty.

Most drink coffee in the morning and evening. It is notbecause he is thirsty.
At that time a glass of water will not equate it forcoffee.

Q6           What isthe "3E" class in Indian Railways?

A6           Balasubramanian Kailasam, FormerAsst. Manager at Indian Railways
Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC)(2006–2010)3h

AC 3E means Air Conditioned 3 Tier Economy. This type of class is presently
found in Duronto trains and Garibrath trains ofIndian Railways. When Duronto
trains were introduced in Indian Railways, in aimto provide superfast metro
connectivity in lower prices, this class withSleeper class was also introduced.
The 3E (Three Tier ‘Economy’) class is aslight modification of the 3A - instead
of 3+3 berths plus 2 on the side, the 3E has 3+3 plus 3 on the side.

My note- As far asmy information goes the 3berth on side is discontinued and
only two are onlyprovided now, since the  middle berthintroduced became very
discomfort.

Q7           Why don'tveins collapse when they pump blood into an empty heart
instead of intoarteries which are full all the time?

A7           Ken Saladin, Former professor ofhistology (microscopic anatomy)11h

Veins don’t pumpblood any more that your garden hose pumps water.

And the heartis never empty, other than sometimes emotionally.

Even when the heartfully contracts, it doesn’t pump out all the blood that’s in
the ventricles—usually only about 55% to 70% of it. This is called the
ejectionfraction. It rises to as much as 90% in heavy exercise, but not
100%even then.

My note- Very informative answer

Q8           What isthe largest Hindu temple in Asia?

A8           Devala Rees, Hindu practitioner andscholar of Pagan religions Wed

It depends on how you measure it.

The Hindu temple inAsia (and in the world for that matter) with the largest
total area within thetemple compound premises is Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal.
I just visited it myself andit is indeed huge; I spent a whole day, from
morning to night, exploring it andstill didn’t see everything. But it doesn’t
contain the largestindividual temple structure. A lot of this enclosed area is
actually sacredforest, a deer park, a river, etc., as befits Pashupatinath, the
Lord ofAnimals. Soit’s debatable how much this area counts as “a temple”.
Itactually contains 518 separate temples.

The Hindu templewith the largest continuous expanse of actual temple
construction is Angkor Wat in Cambodia. It is not only the largest Hindu temple
inAsia, but the largest monument of any religion in the world. However it is
nolonger an actively functioning Hindu temple.

The largestcontinuously constructed Hindu temple that is still currently active
isSrirangam Temple in India.

Q9           What isthe name of the station with the most halts in the Indian
Railway system?

A9           Shivnarayan Kumar,3h

Howrah JunctionRailway Station

system), it has the highest train-handling capacityof any railway station in
India and is one of the busiest railway stations interms of passenger volume
per day.

Q10         How canpeople eat plain white rice with nothing?

A10         Martin Bayer, Chef (1994–present)21h

Most people don’teat plain white rice with nothing, they eat it with a highly
seasoned dish likea curry or a stir fry. Theplain rice gives your mouth a
reprieve from the intense flavor of the dishyou’re eating, allowing you to eat
more.

The most widelyeaten varieties of rice are more flavorful than common long
grain white rice, which I assume is the variety you are most familiar with.
Calrose, jasmine and basmati rices have more complex flavor and texturethan
long grain rice, so eating them on their own is far from bland and boring.

So, if you’re eating the right rice, in the right way, plain white rice is a
pleasure to eat.

My note- If we arehungry and rice is best variety prepared  we can eat even 3-4
handfull with out any dish

Q11         Is it truethat being too clean is unhealthy?

A11         Sabrina Walkosz, B.S. in HealthScience/Biology, Benedictine
University (IL) (Graduated 1996) Oct 17

I was married to a microbiologist who had to wash hishands multiple times in
the course of his workday, as he lectured to collegestudents and also worked in
the lab.

Invariably, coldweather resulted in extreme chapping of his skin. At times, he
actually bled a little bit fromcracks around his knuckles and on the thinner
skin of the back of his hands.

I encouraged him topick up a nice, fragrance-free emollient for use after
hand-washing both athome and at work, but he had multiple excuses as to why
that just wouldn’tfly….everything from other people in the lab or even his
office might use it,thereby contaminating it, to it being a vector for microbes.

It took me a long time to understand that what he had goingon was more of an
anxiety issue than anything based on the science itself:

We all have aprotective acid mantle on our healthy skin. This mild acid is a
metabolicbyproduct of mostly-friendly microbes that colonize our skin soon
after birth. They take up the “parking spaces” that might otherwise be usurped
by harmfulmicrobes. They are only harmful if they make it INTO a cut or other
wound in your skin, where theymay cause infection.

So smart moneysays you keep your skin clean but not so clean that you are
scrubbing off skinlayers and creating openings in the skin itself.

Q12         How dotrain drivers know which way to go on tracks?

A12         Badri Chaithu, Assistant Loco Pilot atIndian Railways Thu

Officiallythere are no train drivers. The name changed to Loco pilots.
Similarly thereare no guards. The name changed to Train Managers.

Coming to thequestion u have asked, locopilot work for only a particular
section of rail network. They would take LR(Road Learning) in that section &
work only for that section.Loco pilots cannot change the route or direction to
whatever direction hewanted to go.

On Railway track, point will be set to one particularroute (in above image it
was set to right most linewhen going towards upward direction). Section
controller will decide the route of the train& at what time the train to be
started. He will give instructions to theparticular station master at which
train was there. Then SM will give signalthrough his signalling panel as shown
in below picture.

According to the instruction from head office/ sectioncontroller, station
master will give signal to the train to go in thatdirection. The points will be
set automatically in thatdirection before the proceed/ green light signal
appears.

Loco pilotcan only control the train speed or troubleshoot in case of any
problem butcannot change the direction of train. He follows only the given
signal to movethe train.

What if the signalis in danger/ red & loco pilot tries to move train?

In case ofdanger signal, the point will be set to danger i.e if loco pilot
moved thetrain the train will get derailed there will be chance of accident.
