it. But have you ever thought whythe modern lifts have mirrors unlike older
lifts?
Initially when elevator was invented, it didn’t had anymirrors. But as the
engineering world developed andbuildings started to grow taller and taller in
height. Lift users started tocomplain that the lift is moving too slow and it
takes a lot of time to reachto the higher floors.
Now, from theperspective of engineering, there is only a certain safe speed up
to which thespeed of lift can be increased, but even at that speed the
complaints from theusers didn’t stop. Tosolve the issue, the engineers came
with a great idea of placing mirrors in thelifts. And this actually stopped the
complaints.
Why? Because the mirror was now causing distraction forthe users. People would
look at themselves, get theirhair and dress right. People now had something to
look at and be occupiedrather than looking at the boring lift walls all the
time they are in the lift.
And this was the main reason why mirrors were placed inthe modern lifts.
For the samepurpose of causing distraction, you might have seen transparent
lifts with glass doors or glass wallsor lifts with grilled collapsible doors,
like these below.

Luckily, mirrors in the lift are also useful forclaustrophobic people as
mirrors give an illusion of a larger space.In Japan, the mirrorsare also
included for safety purposes, for avoiding theft, and also to helpPhysically

allow a person in wheelchair to turn, the mirrors help themsee behind and
safely move out.

Popular opinion is“It’s costly, so it’s luxury” but that’s not the right answer
from a businessPOV. Let me explain how the pricing factor works for a food
product. Do you like cakes? ..yummychocolate truffle cake.
Once cakes were a luxury food served as ‘dessert’ afterdinner to the elites of
Bombay. The kids lovedit, the women loved it. Someone thought “ if kids and
women love it, then thisproduct has a huge market outside”. People started
baking cakes and started selling them as “cakes’ insteadof under the tag of
‘dessert’.Cakes became a product on their own.
People startedbakeries near schools. People began selling cakes at shopping
malls, publicplaces, office meetings, theatres, institutes, etc. Cakes began to
reach ruralIndia. Baking cakes was a boon for rural employment, particularly
for ruralwomen's self-help groups. They started baking cakes and sold them to
nearbytowns and shops.
Now cakes are no more a luxury food as it was once in Indiaduring the 1940s.
Still …some cakes are luxury, butcakes, in general, are affordable and
available even to a lower-income group inIndia. This is because theproduct
explored its market, the product did not restrict itself to apopulation. The
market kept evolving.
Please note, the cake is not a traditional Indian food.
Now with Pizza - the product did not evolve muchbeyond its market territory.
The market still remains saturated within a few brands and among
themiddle-income group. Reasons are
Pizza is sold as a family meal - from 8 inches to 18inches. The smallest is the
most costly comparatively. That demotivatesindividuals, who need a meal for 1
person, to buy a pizza.
Not all members of a family like pizza, Indians prefervarieties. So a pizza
that is sold as a familymeal doesn't get majority votes while placing an order
as a family
Pizza quickly dries and becomes hard to eat within minutesof delivery. That’s
not the case with bucketchicken or biryani.
Kids normally prefer to eat the soft front portion andwaste the hardback
portion. Next time, we don’t order pizza
Kids like thecheese but don’t like the crust and toppings unless it’s a fruit
or chicken.Veg pizza has nothing much to offer except mushrooms, tomatoes, and
greenpepper chilies - none of these is a fav for kids.
These are few reasons why Pizza as a food product hasn’texplored its market
potential yet in India. Hence thepricing is costly as it caters to limited
customer segment who can afford itwithout much bargaining.
The one in the pic is a small bread-size pizza that’ssold for Rs 35 near school
zones. I’ve seen momsbuying these for kids - it’s filling for kids, they love
the extra cheese andpineapple in Pizza, and it’s affordable for moms to buy one
for kids.
Now, these are also Pizzas that’s not considered a luxuryfood in India.
What you consider luxury are the family pizza’s sold bytop brands in India.
However, the one slice bread size pizza sold near schoolsaren’t luxury, they’re
not sold as a family meal by top brands. They are madefor kids and is
affordable.
So luxurydepends on what size and where you order a pizza.
The food producthas not explored its full market potential yet. Once
pizzatransforms from a “family meal” to a ‘quick snack for 1 person” - Pizza
willnot be a luxury food in India. Eventually, the market will evolve
toaccommodate pizza as a snack in the future.

This person waswrong. Without knowing this concept, the person gave it a

My note- We are having picture tube black andwhite TV with resistance and
condensers mostly from 1980’s. So TV is in thefield for in India for more than
