As received When we go through the Malayalam names of the 27 asterisms, we can find that the names of only two asterisms have been honored with the auspicious prefix “Tiru” which is an ancient *tadbhava* of Sanskrit Śrī (श्री). These are Ātira (ആതിര) a tadbhava of Sanskrit Ārdrā and Ōṇam (ഓണം) which is a tadbhava of Sanskrit Śravaṇa. Ātira becomes Tiruvātira (തിരുവാതിര) and Ōṇam becomes Tiruvōṇam (തിരുവോണം). The situation is same in Tamil too. Why were only the names of these two asterisms chosen to be so honored and that too by only Malayalam and Tamil?
