1.The fact is that the so called *चैतन्यम्* (consciousness), which is the
fundamental and essential property of life - is the cause of the internal
feelings such as सुखम् (comfort) and दुःखम् (worry) as well as the
external transactions of all beings is not different from *वाक्** / *

2.The वाक् or the चैतन्यम् in the form of शब्द, is the candidate that
propels the beings in useful activities. And once the चैतन्यम् disappears
from the body, the being is without movement and looks like a dry stick and

*127 , ibid*

*चैतन्यम्* (consciousness) is there spread across the ( मनस् - mind and )
complete नाडीव्यवस्था (nervous system - includes mind , spinal cord and the
nerves across the body )-- *The armamentarium of Human Mind makes use of
distributed neuronal networks* .

As has been explained *चैतन्यम्* *is** वाक्** / **शब्द* ।

3 Then how the audible शब्द is produced? *Panini, in his **शिक्षा* clearly
explains the process and the same is endorsed by *शबरस्वामी** ( *

6,7,9*

The अन्तरङ्गम् (inner mind) connects the things with intellect (बुद्धि )
and injects विवक्षा ( a desire to speak ) into the mind (मनस्) - then
मनस् would
push the जठराग्नि (digestive fire) , which in turn propels the वायु (air)
. Such a वायु travels upwards , hits the palate , returns to mouth and
generates वर्णs .

Hari summarizes --

शब्द is , no doubt , all-pervading but without any effort it cannot be
produced as an audible sound . The above explanation clearly shows
that मनस् plays
an important role and it is the चैतन्यम् , with the help of वायु and
अग्नि , that makes वाक् to be born .
