CULTURAL QA 02-2023-25 Q1 I booked tickets in Tatkal and morethan 50 percent of the seats were vacant. Why was it not shown in the generalreservation?
A1 Ankit Barnawal, Former Student atDoon Business School, Dehradun (2017–2022)22h You booked ticketsin tatkal and more than 50 percent of the seats were vacant. Why were thoseseats not shown in the general reservation ? The reasonbehind this is that those seats are kept for tatkal quota only. Indian Railwaysdivides total number of seats in two different quotas i.e. general quota andtatkal quota. Suppose there aretotal 4 AC III tier coach in a train of LHB rake. So the total number of seatsis 288 seats i.e. 4 times 72. Now these 288 seats are divided into generalquota and tatkal quota. Around 3/4 of seats is kept for generalquota and the remaining 1/4 of seats is kept for tatkal quota. So, at the time ofbooking tatkal tickets, general quota seats usually remains full and hence, seats are not available in general quota and the seats remains vacant in tatkalquota. Due to this, more than 50 percent of seats were vacant in thatparticular train in which you were booking tatkal tickets.Hope you are clearnow !!! My note- Thatkalgives more revenue and in some trains thatkal also comes under dynamic fare. Those who are in urgency may not look for fare, theywill book thatkal under dynamic fare. In many stations current bookingwindows are re furnished like in Chennai central. Even half an hourbefore the departure of train one can get thatkal for many trains. Sometimes fare equal to the next upper class!!! Q2 Can I use distilled water to take abath? A2 Imran Taher, MB from NationalUniversity, Gazipur, Bangladesh (Graduated 2020)3y You have probablyheard about people that like to drink distilled water, but what about thosethat want to bathe in it? The concept is not too popular amongst people because no one everfigured that you could fill an entire bathtub with distilled water to take abath in. However, there are people that do it because they feel itis better for their skin. With all of the impurities gone fromthe distilled water, there won’t be any left to infect your skin or cause badacne. Most people thesedays take showers anyways, so what’s the solution there? Well more water purification companieshave come out with shower filters that remove chlorine and harmful impuritiesfrom the water before it hits your body. Since most people like to takehot showers, they will definitely want to have these impurities removed fromtheir water. After all, hot water will open up the pores of theskin, which will allow dangerous pollutants to clog up your pores and enter thebloodstream. If you continue to let this happen to your skin over a longperiod of time, then your chances of getting cancer will greatly increase. Thatis why it is a worthyinvestment to buy a water head filter that can protect your skin from thesehurtful pollutants. The picture on the side shows of a Very popularshower filter available on Amazon. You may beinterested in bathing in distilled water, but you probably won’t feel likebuying lots of one gallon jugs of distilled water at your local grocery store. There are two choices you have in this case. You can use the water filter onthe shower head and fill up the bathtub through the shower that way – It won’tbe distilled water, but I guess better than nothing. But, if you want the purest possiblewater in your bathtub then you should buy an automatic water distiller (alsoknown as a whole house water distiller). You may have to shell out a fewhundreds of dollars. However, they can generate up to 42 gallons ofdistilled water per day to use within the plumbing of your household. That wayanytime you turn on your faucet, take a shower or draw yourself a bath, thedistilled water will be coming out of it. This requires a commercial plumber that is experiencedwith distillers to come and make this hookup for you. Call yourlocal plumbing company to find out more information about this. You wouldprobably only be interested in going to this extreme if you have supersensitive skin or a weak immune system that is prone to sickness from waterimpurities or if you want the convenience of pure water every time you turn onthe faucet. My note- Except during floods, river water is very goodcomparing to bore well water. But bath in riverhas very much reduced even when river is close. Bathing ghats are not well maintained now. Exception can be Ganges and ghats. Q3 What wild animal is most friendly tohumans? A3 Lida Simon, Feb 17 Steven Caddens, FormerSupervisor at Red Cross Logistics Updated 2y There's a bit of atheme here with some saying that friendly wild animals are no longerwild. I beg to differ. This chap is a Corvus corax: the Commonraven. In captivity they can learn to talk better than parrots but we're nottalking captive here. My father sat on a bench during one of his hikes andfound himself face to face with a raven; he recalled that the bird ignored his presence until hebegan talking to the bird which then began cocking its head as thoughlistening. Thusa friendship was born. Whenever he took a hike and sat down, the raven wouldsuddenly appear and began ‘croaking' and it moved ever closer. He would sit for around half an hour then carry on his way, after a while itwould follow him for a distance before ‘croaking’ once more and flying off. He never fed the bird, he said itwas ‘smart enough to get its own, it didn't need anything from me'. As a youngster Iwas fascinated by this apparent friendship, thinking a bird is a bird and theyaren't that smart. How wrong can one person be. Ravens are members of the Corvid family which includesmagpies, jays, and crows. But the raven outsmarts them all.Extremely intelligent, mischievous, and playful. Have seven known calls and canimitate a variety of birds such as jays, crows, and geese. To attract a matethey use aerobatic displays as my father witnessed such as barrel-rolling,somersaults, and flying upside down. They can also speak fox and wolf, which they use toattract the animals to break open carcasses for them. They have beenobserved in Alaska and Canada using snow covered roofs as slides, rolling downsnow covered hills like children.. ot dead!Playing.…playing keep-away with other creatures such as wolves, otters, anddogs. Who'safraid of the big bad wolf? Not I says the raven. We're buddies. They make toys toplay with using sticks, pinecones, golf balls or rocks to play together oralone. Sometimes they taunt or mock other animals because…well it's funny! ‘Snatch a tail’ isa favourite of corvids. Keeping fox companyon a cold winter's day! 😁 A simple twig canbe hours of fun! A study in Austria recently found that ravens makesophisticated nonvocal gestures that were believed onlyprimates used, in other words they gesture to communicate. The study found that ravenspoint with their beaks to indicate an object to another bird, like we do whenusing a finger to point, they will also hold up objects to get another bird’sattention. A flock of ravens is called an ‘Unkindness' or a‘conspiracy' yet when a friend loses a fight they console them by nuzzling:they can remember birds they are friendly with and like crows they can alsorecognise and remember human faces and voices. They will respond negatively andwith suspicion to strange ravens. ‘Don't just look!Scratch belly!’ Raven chick with alittle attitude! But bewarned, if a raven takes a dislike to you it will be passed to other members ofthe flock and like a mother’s worst nightmare the adolescents join gangs andthey are the most mischievous of them all. So I nominate thishighly intelligent, playful and mischievous beautiful bird. Smiley face My note- Along withthe answer I could pictures of crow and ravens and whitecrows and ravens. That made me to recollect the saying- “White crow flew upside down” Q4 What are the disadvantages of eatingidli? A4 Shiv Puri, Individual(2022–present)22h The Idli is a popular South Indian dish made fromfermented rice and urad dal batter. It is considereda healthy food choice for several reasons, such as being low in fat andcalories, high in protein and fiber, and easy to digest. However, there are a fewpotential disadvantages of eating idli: High in Carbohydrates: Idli is primarily made fromrice, which is high in carbohydrates. While carbohydrates are essential forenergy, consuming too many carbs can lead to weight gain and other healthissues. High in Sodium: Idli is usually served with sambar orchutney, which can be high in sodium. Consuming too much sodium can increaseblood pressure and lead to other health problems. Can cause Bloating: The fermentation process usedto make idli can produce gas, which can lead to bloating in some people. Low in Micronutrients: While idli is a good source ofprotein and fiber, it is relatively low in micronutrients such as vitamins andminerals. To ensure a balanced diet, it's important to eat a variety of foodsthat provide a range of nutrients. Gluten-free options: Traditional Idli is made usingrice and urad dal which makes it gluten-free, however, some commercial versionsmay add wheat or other gluten-containing grains which would not be suitable forpeople with celiac disease or gluten intolerance. Overall, idlican be a healthy and nutritious food choice when consumed in moderation and aspart of a balanced diet. However, individuals with specific dietary needs or health concerns should consult witha healthcare professional before adding idli to their diet My note- Nowadays person eating 2/3 can be only physicallyhardworking people Q5 Do Indian Railways have rest roomsfor drivers of trains between shifts? Or do they sleep on the seats providedinside the engine room while driving overnight journeys? A5 Madhu Sudan, Works at Indian RailwaysThu Railways maintainsRunning rooms for the train crew…drivers and Guards to rest and recreation.Running rooms also have a subsidised messing facility. A lot of care is taken to ensurenoise free environment including lighting so that the sleeping crew are leastdisturbed with lighting in the room. Periodic inspections areconducted by divisional running room committee which includes therepresentatives of recognised unions and also running staff union. Similar runningrooms are also provided for Ticket checking staff also. While on duty, they arealways alert and hence issue of sleeping on duty never comes to their minds. My note- Earlier the engine room had no toilet facility. Staffused to take bottles to pee and then thrown away at suitable places. In thepresent day engine rooms are provided with toilet facility Q6 What was the name of the firstelectric train in India? A6 Vikas Malik, Cyber Security Engineer,YouTuber Mon The first electrictrain in India was the DeccanQueen, which was introduced on June 1, 1930. The Deccan Queen was aluxury train that operated between Mumbai and Pune, and was powered by a 1,500-volt DC overhead system. It was manufacturedby the British Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company, and was the first train in the Indiansubcontinent to be run on electric power. Q7 How come there are more than twogenders despite there are only XX and XY? A7 Claire Jordan, Degree in biology andfolklore; programmer, shop owner, secretary on newspaper 3 h My note- I haveincluded this part for the importance ofSRY GENES more than Y chromosome in deciding gender XX and XY are onlyvaguely relevant. It’s the SRY gene which (usually) determines gender. All mammalianembryos start out female. In therian mammals (that is, excluding monotremes, who are just weird) theembryo may or may not have an SRY gene. If it does thiswill *usually* be on a Y-chromosome, but you can sometimes get Y-chromosomeswithout an SRY gene, or X-chromosomeswith one, or with a different gene mutated to act like an SRY. It is possible to get an XY female or an XX male if the SRY gene isn’twhere it usually is. If an SRYgene, or another gene acting like an SRY, is present, the embryo will developtesticles rather than ovaries. If those testicleswork and produce androgens, the embryo may or may not respond normally to thoseandrogens. If theembryo is not sensitive to androgens it will be born anatomically female, despite having undescendedtesticles instead of ovaries. Some of these individuals will suddenly grow a penis andscrotum at puberty, while others will remain anatomically female all theirlives. There are otherissues to consider. Exposure to male hormones from a male twin in the womb cancause an otherwise female embryo to become masculinised. Possession of an extra X can cause an XXY male to end upwith small balls and feminised bone structure. Hormonefluctuations in the womb can cause the embryo to end up with the neurologicalwiring for a different sex from the one its body is otherwise developing as, so its brain keeps trying to map toa penis when it has a vagina, or vice versa. And finally, iffraternal twin embryos fuse in the womb to form a chimaera, and those twinswere of differing sexes, theresulting embryo will either be divided half male and half female, or a jigsaw patchwork ofdifferent male and female body parts. My note- The answer explains third gender and their anatomy.Once Mr Rajaram Krishnamurthy had responded in a mail to me the part of SRYgenes than XY chromosomes. Q8 How much rice do you eat per day? A8 Fast Weight Loss, Former WebDeveloper19h I don't eat anyfood, including rice. However, the amount of rice oneshould eat per day depends on individual factors such as age, sex, weight, height, physical activity level, and overall dietary needs. According to theDietary Guidelines for Americans, a recommended serving size of cooked rice is about 1/2 cup or 90 grams. For most healthy adults, the daily recommended intake of grains, includingrice, is about 6-8 servings, or about 3-4 cups of cooked rice per day. However, this can vary depending on individual caloric needs and dietary preferences. It's important to note that rice, particularly whiterice, is a high-glycemic index food, which means itcan cause a rapid rise in blood sugar levels. Eating too much rice or other high-glycemic index foods mayincrease the risk of developing health conditions such as type 2 diabetes andheart disease. Therefore, it's important toconsume rice and other grains in moderation andbalance them with other nutrient-dense foods as part of a balanced diet. Q9 Are wall and floor tilesinterchangeable? A9 Anne Whitacre, Architecturalspecifier for large projects at Multiple Large Firms1y Maybe. Floor tiles are sometimes thicker, and sometimesmade with a nonslip texture. But little 1"x 1″ or 2″ x 2″ tiles are thesame, and rectified porcelain tiles can be installed in either location. My note- This could be 1’x1’ and 2’x2’ and typo.Generally floor tiles are slightly more thicker than wall tiles. Tiles for sump and over head tankcan be of smaller size for the walls. For bottom it is slightly thicker. Onecan observe water more interacting with wall tiles and least interact withbottom tiles. (Glazed surfacepealing and coming) Q10 What ethnic group of women has the mostmuscle mass? A10 Claire Jordan, Degree in biology andfolklore; programmer, shop owner, secretary on newspaper6h In proportion to height I expect it’s the Peruviannative tribe that David Lopez comes from. David Lopez was aPeruvian toddler who was fostered by a Glaswegian plastic surgeon after thecentre of his face was eaten away by an infection. It took years of surgery to rebuild his face, and he became a local celebrity. Anyway, as a young adult he had a physique like a shortCharles Atlas, although he swore he didn’t do anything to get that way.It seems to be a feature of his people - they’re just naturally muscly, like aStaffordshire bull terrier.
