CULTURAL QA 04-2023-13 Q1 What is heat transfer oil?
A1 Surbhi Mishra,9+ Years Experience as Teacher and SocialAnalyst 58m Heat transfer oil, also knownas thermal oil, is a type of fluid used to transfer heat energy from onelocation to another. It is asynthetic or mineral-based oil that is designed to maintain consistent heatingand cooling temperatures in industrial processes and equipment. Heat transfer oil is often usedin a closed-loop system, where it is heated in a heat exchanger and then circulatedthrough pipes or other equipment to transfer heat to the desired location. It is typically used inapplications such as food processing, chemical processing, pharmaceuticalmanufacturing, and oil and gas production. One of the advantages of heat transfer oil is its ability to maintainconsistent temperatures, which helps to improve the efficiency and reliabilityof industrial processes. Italso has a high boiling point and low viscosity, which makes it ideal for usein high-temperature applications. However, it is important to handle heat transfer oil with care, as it canbe flammable and pose a fire hazard if not properly managed. It is also important to monitor the condition ofthe oil and perform regular maintenance to ensure it continues to functioneffectively. My note- The transformer oilis a heat transfer oil. Q2 What is heat transfer? A2 Shubham Punetha, B.Sc hons(physics) from Banaras HinduUniversity (Graduated 2021)3y Heat transfer may be referred tothe transfer of thermal energy from a region of higher temperature to that of alower one. It occurs in nature by three means: Conduction:- In this mode, heatgets transfer between two bodies thatare in actual contact . You can understand it by a simple example :- Suppose you are in your class and the professor in the class have a copyin his hand and he wanted to pass that copy to the student sitting at the lastso he decided to give the copy to the one sitting in the front and then askedhim to pass the copy at the back and repeated the same until the copy reachedto the last guy. This case is similar to the conduction here the copy can beconsidered as heat and it is getting transferred with actual contact asstudents are passing that to their back bench while touching to each other. 2. Convection:- In this mode, heat gets transfer between twobodies by actual flow of matter between them or you can say by the movement ofheated atoms and molecules. Let me try to explain it with the same example as mentioned above Consider the same case when the professor at the front wanted to give acopy to the last student and this time too he gave copy to the one who issitting at the front bench but now instead of passing the copy to the back he asked the first studentto give the copy to the last student by going to his seat and providing himwith the copy then. In this case copy is again considered as heat but now rather than passingthe heat through contact the heat is transferred by actual movement of theparticle as now the student himself went to the last seat and provided thecopy. 3. Radiation:- In this mode ,heat gets transfer in the form ofelectromagnetic waves from one body to another and this mode does not requireany intervening medium as it can pass through vacuum also. Simplest example isthe sunlight we received. Let me again try to visualize you this thing with the same example Consider the same case where professor wanted to provide the copy to thestudent at the last but this time he picked up the copy and directly thrower the copy to him at the last. Here copy can be considered as a form of heat and we can clearly understand nowthat the medium is unaffected and the heat is directly transferred in the formof waves. My note- These mode of transferof heat occur in nature as well as in different applications. Q3 What is the irony of life? A3 Vijaya Lakshmi, Retired Finance manager at Coal IndiaLimited (A Maharatna Company)5y Remember thethirsty crow story you heard in your childhood? OK if you don’t remember I will tell you again. One hot day, a thirsty crow flew all over the fields looking for water. For a long time, he could not find any. He felt very weak, almost lost allhope. Suddenly, he saw a water jug below the tree. He flew straight down to seeif there was any water inside. Yes, he could see some water inside the jug! The crow tried to push his headinto the jug. Sadly, he found that the neck of the jug was too narrow. Then he tried to pushthe jug to tilt for the water to flow out, but the jug was too heavy. The crow thought hard for a while. Then, looking around it, he saw somepebbles. He suddenly had a good idea. He started picking up the pebbles one byone, dropping each into the jug. As more and more pebbles filled the jug, the water level kept rising.Soon it was high enough for the crow to drink. His plan had worked! Fast forward one thousandyears: The great…great…great………..grandson of our crow friend above, was flyingin the sky. He suddenly felt very thirsty. Just like his great great grandfather hesaw a water jug below a tree. “Our forefather already gave the idea. Now I need not do all those stupidthings my ancestor did. I will straight away put pebbles in the jug” hethought. He looked for pebbles around him. No pebbles were found. He flew here and there searching the pebbles. Tohis dismay, he did not find any. He became tired of searching for pebbles. His thirst became more severe. “Now there is no other way than to pray God” he thought. He startedpraying. At last God appeared before him. “Son, what do you want?’ Godasked. “Some pebbles” replied the crow. Soon there was a heap of pebbles. God disappeared. The crow started to put thepebbles in the jug. But because he was very thirsty and weak (for praying Godfor many days) he soon collapsed without being able to drink the water. I know what you are thinking right now. The crowshould have asked for water instead of pebbles. Right? But we (including me) do the same foolish things inour lives. When opportunity comes forquenching our thirst for happiness, we, instead of grabbing that opportunity, search for some other medium to buy that happiness. In that pursuit we lose our happiness. My note- I liked the simple andinteresting manner by which answer is told- This type of presentation by persons is a Gift of God. Unfortunately somemembers in the group do not understand it and envy at such gifted persons. Without appreciatingsuch members, they try to pelt stones at such members!!! Q4 What is your opinion on urinating inthe woods? Do you prefer it to using public toilets? A4 Gopala Krishnan, Former Assistant General Manager 1996-2004at Department of Telecom (1966–2004)Just now There are Lakhs of people who cannot control urination when tempted. With in seconds they have tourinate. Wonder is if it is while traveling in a bus orauto they may be able to control still reaching the destination. This is the reason for providing toilets in petrol bunks, in ground floorin lodgings and at convenient points along the roads. If nothing is available theygo to an area, where people movement is less and somewhat shady’ I am diabetic and of the opinion that there is nothing wrong in urinatingin woods. Most diabetics may not be able to controlurination. Q5 Which fruit is not good for the liver? A5 Health Director | Loving Father | Business Director Tue The liver is a vital organ thatplays a key role in processing nutrients and removing toxins from the body. Certain foods, including some fruits, can have animpact on liver health. Here's a look at a fruit that may not be goodfor the liver: 1. Grapefruit: While grapefruit is a healthy fruit that is high in vitamin C and fiber, it can be problematicfor people with liver disease. Grapefruit contains compounds calledfuranocoumarins, which can interfere with the liver's ability to metabolize certainmedications. This can lead to a build up of medication in the body, which canbe toxic to the liver. If you have liver disease, it's important to talk to your doctor aboutany medications you are taking, and whether grapefruit or other foods should beavoided. It's worth noting that for most people, grapefruit is a healthy andnutritious fruit that can be part of a balanced diet. However, if you aretaking certain medications, it's important to check with your doctor beforeconsuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice. In general, a healthy diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables can helpto support liver health. Some fruits that may be particularly beneficial forliver health include: 1. Berries: Berries are high in antioxidants, which can help to protect the liver from damage caused byfree radicals. They are also low in sugar, which can be beneficial for peoplewith liver disease. 2. Apples: Apples are high in fiber and contain compounds that can help to reduce inflammation inthe liver. They are also low in calories and have a low glycemic index, whichmakes them a good choice for people with liver disease. 3. Citrus fruits: Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, and limes are high in vitamin C, which is anantioxidant that can help to protect the liver from damage. They are also lowin sugar and high in fiber, which can be beneficial for people with liverdisease. 4. Grapes: Grapes are high in antioxidants and contain compounds that can help to reduceinflammation in the liver. They are also low in calories and have a lowglycemic index, which makes them a good choice for people with liver disease. In conclusion, grapefruit is a fruit that may not be good for the liverfor people with liver disease due to its impact on the metabolism of certainmedications. However, for most people, grapefruit is a healthy and nutritious fruitthat can be part of a balanced diet. Other fruits, such as berries, apples, citrus fruits, and grapes, may be particularly beneficial for liver health dueto their high antioxidant content and anti-inflammatory properties. Q6 Why do people fear death when it isjust like we were before we were born? A6 Tiny Nair, Cardiologist at PRS Hospital, Trivandrum 5y There are just 3 reasons as to why people don't want to die - call itfear if you wish My dependants will be in trouble - They will miss me, feel sad. moreimportantly ***they will suffer from my absence(loss of income, loss of support, care) The pain and suffering associated with death. We all wish a painlessdeath. Advent of modern medical treatment have actually made itdifficult to die painlessly at home. ‘Life is sonice to live, some more days would have been good’. This feeling comes to onlythose who are diagnosed to have bad disease (like end stage cancer) Mosthealthy people don't think this way. Before birth you didn't exist, there were no relations, but with everyprogressive day, you connected with people. It’s they who would miss you, atleast that’s what we all think. This is the precise reason why sages who live aloneup in the Himalayas are not scared of death, because they have no bonding withothers. For the rest of us who enjoy ice-cream and pizzas with family and friends;death would always be fearful. My note- ***Beautiful narration of hard truth. Q7 Why are resistors connected in parallelin most circuits that use them, even though it increases their overallresistance compared to if they were just placed in series? A7 Gopala Krishnan, Former Assistant General Manager1996-2004 at Department of Telecom (1966–2004)Just now Good question. Resisters produce heat ( Formula V x I = W) When resistances are connected in parallel heat discharge is through allresistances . Not from a single resister. When resistances are connected in parallel, by overheating if at all one resistance has damaged, other resistances adjust the load current. Equipment is not affected. I have retired from telecommunication department in India. It is common in many circuitsresistances are connected in parallel in telecom circuits. Resistance in parallel DO NOT INCREASE OVERALL RESISTANCE. It reduce thetotal resistance. Yourstatement is WRONG Q8 How does an aircraft's fan blade differfrom that of an automobile engine's? A8 Erika Fernandez, Car Lover Sat The fan blade of an aircraftengine differs from that of an automobile engine in several ways. One of the main differences is the material usedto make the fan blade. Aircraftengine fan blades are typically made of composite materials, such as carbonfiber and epoxy matrix, which are lightweight, strong, and resistant to impact, while automobile engine fan blades are typically made of metal, such asaluminum or steel, which are heavier and less flexible. Another difference is the design of the fan blade. Aircraft engine fan blades aredesigned to draw a massive amount of air into the engine whileoperating at a low noise level, and they are often curved and twisted tooptimize their aerodynamic performance. The design of the fan blade is alsoinfluenced by the specific requirements of the engine, such as the need to produce thrust orincrease pressure. My note- If any person go near the working engine, he will be pulled inby the sucking nature of the fan Q9 From an evolutionary standpoint, whywould it make sense to have a crotch that causes so much pain when hit? A9 Alec Cawley,I read a lot on Evolution, but I am no expert.Updated 4y Because evolution is a rotten designer. It moved thetesticles outside the body to keep sperm alive longer because it was cooler. Then it found that this makes the testicles proneto careless damage. Instead of the proper fix - designing sperm that did notneed to dangle in the breeze - it just made them very sensitive so thatthe animal carrying them will try very hard not to get them damaged. Yet another reason that ifthere were a Designer, he should be fired for incompetence. My note- On this account male cricketplayers wear special protection over sexual area and then undergarment there. Q10 Can you tell about the Miracle Vegetable: Drumstick?
