Q1         What is the total cost of installingBSNL FTTH broadband and how long
it will take for them to install it afterapplying online?

A1         Jeyapaul Paul, Former DGM BSNL(Retired) at Bharat Sanchar Nigam
Limited (BSNL) (1975–2014)3y

That depends uponthe plan you choose. Say599, 699, 859 etc. The initial charges
are one month plan depositwhich is refundable or adjustable and the cost of
OLTE (optical line terminalequipment) which is equivalent to broadband modem.
The cost of the equipment is Rs. 2500/- and hencethe total expenditure is
around Rs. 3100 to 3350.

The connection isprovided by the third party( franchisee) and not by BSNL in
many places.Normally the third party is the local cable operator in your area.
Theinstallation will be completed within 2 days depending on the availability
ofU/G or overhead  optical fibre in yourlocality.

No separate charges for installation and it is free.Apart from your data /
internet connection you will get a voice telephonefacility for which **you need
not pay anything. The calls made from this telephone are completely free to any
network withinIndia. Only thing, to avail this telephone facility you must have
yourtelephone instrument.

You can purchasesuch land line telephone instrument anywhere from the market or
from BSNL. Thecost of instrument is Rs. 400/- onwards with or without caller
I'd. Comparing any network the speechquality is much superior in BSNL FTTH
connection.

Further theInternet connection is **interruptionfree. You can connect WiFi or
LAN or both.

My note- I took Bharath fibre before a few monthswhen my local cable connection
was fully damaged beyond repair by Highwayspeople. I paid Rs 2800-00 for modem
with warranty. I selected  the lowest  plan.

Howeverinterruption occurs. Five  days back thefibre was cut by EB staff and
restored only on Sunday.

All my  fourparalleled connections  existedbefore work efficiently. Franchisee
made some strapping in the distributionboox.

Being a previousemploy ofBSNL the rental is collected in the monthly bill
approximately 250-00 rupees .

I have no  strength to  argue with Mr Rajaram regarding parallel connections.

Q3         What are the eight Things you shouldnever stop doing no matter how
old you're

A3          Elia Juniana, May3

Never stoplearning. When one stops learning, one dies.

Neverstop having faith in yourself. A strong faith can carry you to anywhere
you want.

Never stopdreaming. A person without imagination can hardly find the joy of
life.

Neverstop saying "I love you". It's never too much. Tell your loved onesyou
love them every day.

Never stopexploring. The world is so big that we should never stay in our
comfort zone.

Never stop complimenting yourself. If you don'tappreciate yourself, who would?

Neverstop doing good deeds. Though you may not get returns, you'll be
satisfied andfulfilled when you look back.

Never stopbelieving. Sometimes there's no evidence but you have to believe.

Edit: Try toappreciate other's work.

My note-The word appreciate is veryimportant and people must be cultured and
civilised  for that. Prson calling others 1ststandard, idiot, etc must
understand it

Q5         Which was the preferred wood to buildships of the line in the age of
sail?

A5         Rebecca Williams, knows about boats andships ,Jul 13

According tovarious sources, the most common and preferred wood for the ship’s
structurewas oak in its variousforms. Oak was valued for its longevity,
strength, size, and its propensity togrow into large enough usable curves.

Oak was also resistant to water absorption and decay.

Oak was not always readily available, especially incountries that lacked large
forests or had depleted their resources. For example, Britain had to import oak
from other countries, such asScandinavia, Russia, or the Baltic states.

For spars and masts, which needed long straight logs, another type of wood was
sought: pine. Pine was lighterand more flexible than oak and could be found in
abundance in the Balticregion. Pine was also easier to work with hand tools and
could be usedunseasoned for emergency ships. Pine was more prone to rot and
damage by insects than oak.

Some countries alsoexperimented with other types of wood, such as
tropicalhardwoods. These woods were even stronger and more resistant to the
seasand rot than oak or pine. They were also more expensive and difficult
toobtain.

Different countries had different preferences andconstraints when it came to
choosing wood for their ships of the line.

Oak and pinewere generally the most widely used and favoured woods for this
purpose.

Q6         Why didn't the Europeans enslave or atleast attempt to enslave
people other than the Africans?

A6         Michael B. Programmer at A HealthcareCompany16h

They did. The whites kept running away and the nativeskept dying.

Slavery is an old institution. It was once considered a rather humane one.
Rather than killing all your conquered foes you could insteadenslave them. And
this form of slavery was practiced allover the world in antiquity. In fact, it
was so common and unremarkablethat the Old Testamentcontains laws governing the
treatment of slaves.

The early Christians considered slavery a barbaric andpagan institution. By the
MiddleAges slavery had become outlawed in Europe. It was instead replaced
withserfdom. Which is almost completely identical except that you can’t sell
aserf. Just the land they live on.

When the Europeans conquered America they convenientlyforgot the religious
prohibitions on slavery and attempted to enslave theNative Americans. They ran
into two problems. Thefirst is that the Americas were currently undergoing a
mass extinction event asa result of every single plague to ever hit Eurasia
hitting all at once. So their slaves kept dying.

And the 2nd is that the European colonies represented asmall foothold into the
Americas. So a crafty slave could simplyescape. Maybe not to their original
tribe, but to at least a neighboringone.

Then they attempted to enslave white people. They called it“indentured
servitude”. A poor person would bookpassage to America on credit, or a criminal
would be sent as punishment. Onarrival their contract would be purchased by a
landowner, and they would belegally obligated to work for them for X number of
years to pay their passageoff.

But a white personcould just run away and start a new life in another colony
under an assumedname. And even if they didn’tindentured servitude was temporary.

Then someone hit on the idea of taking slaves from Africa. At the time Europeans
couldn’t really survive in sub-Saharan Africa. We hadn’tinvented a cure for
Malaria yet. But Africa was politically fragmented, technologically backwards,
and had a culture that already practiced slavery.

Thus emerged the triangular trade.Raw materials would be shipped from the
Americas to Europe. Manufactured goods, such as guns, would be shipped to
Africa, where they would be exchanged forslaves. And those slaves would be
shipped to America.

The end result was even further destabilization of Africaas those tribes that
did business with the Europeans now had even moreincentive to take slaves, and
even better tools to do it with.

But the Africans made for perfect slaves. They had beenexposed to all the same
diseases as Europeans. They wereimmediately identifiable, at least for the
first few generations. And it’s notlike they could run away across an ocean.

Mind you, “perfect slave” is relative. Also, we’re apparently finally getting a
Robert Smalls movie, so cross that offthe list of things I can complain about.

Q7         If you fell from a high-altitude planeinto a mountain of pillows,
would you survive?

A7         Gaurav Gupta,3h

Once, a bomber pilot jumped out of his plane instead ofburning with it. He had
no parachute and fell tothe ground, it was winter and he landed in the forest,
his fall was cushionedby several branches as he continued his way to the
ground. He suffered some injuries, butwas taken prisoner and the officer in
charge wrote a note of testimony of hisprowess and gave it to him, as proof of
his incredible act of survival.

So, yes. Ifyou have a mountain of pillows to cushion your fall, there's a good
chanceyou'll survive. I wouldn't try, because you mightas well land in the
wrong place.
