Q1         Why do some airlines fly their planeseven without passengers on
board?

Discover the hiddengenius behind airlines operating empty planes, a strategy
that may seem perplexing at first glance butis, in fact, a well-thought-out
approach aimed at securing their success.Delve into the reasons airlines opt
for this unconventional tactic and beamazed by its brilliance.

Protecting Airport Slots: It's a high-stakes game, and airlines are playing it
smart. They fly empty planes to protect theirprecious airport slots, ensuring
they retain their scheduled time on lucrative routes. By keepingthese slots
occupied, they maintain their foothold in the industry and pave theway for
future, fully-booked flights.

Logistics in Play: There's more to this seeminglyempty journey than meets the
eye. Airlines carefully calculate their decisions, considering factors
beyondmere passenger numbers. From intricate maintenance schedules to planning
forthe next day's flights and weather-induced contingencies, everyaspect is
meticulously evaluated. Moreover, the presence of valuable cargo in theholds
further justifies these flights economically.

Strategic Repositioning: Have you ever wonderedwhy certain flights appear
almost deserted? The answer lies in strategicrepositioning. Some flights are
designed primarily to relocate airplanes fortheir morning departures. These
late-night journeys from major hubs to smallercities may have limited bookings,
but they are essential for ensuring that thenext day's flight runs at full
capacity.

Cargo Revenue: While passengers may be light, cargo holds are anything but.
Airlines capitalize on the potential of carryingsubstantial cargo on these
flights, reaping substantial revenue that outweighsthe cost of flying the
plane. This clever business maneuver keeps the financialscales perfectly
balanced.

Optimized Safety Measures: In an ever-changingworld, airlines prioritize
passenger safety above all. Limited socialdistancing measures don't imply a
compromise on safety. Instead, airlines haveadopted comprehensive safety
protocols, such as mandatory mask-wearing, whichensure a secure travel
experience. This enables airlines to accommodate morepassengers while
maintaining a safe environment.

In conclusion, themystery behind airlines flying empty planes is now unveiled.
With a strategicvision and focus on economic viability and passenger safety,
airlines navigatethe complexities of the aviation industry with finesse. So,
the next time yousee an apparently empty flight, know that it's a well-crafted
masterpiece, geared towards ensuring a successful future for the airline and a
comfortablejourney for its passengers.

My note- I recollect the instance of a Gulf airoperated with single passenger
fromChennai-Dubai because, the flight had to pick up  full capacity passengers
from Dubai to Chennaion return.

Q2         Is it necessary to change Aquagardwater purifier elements after the
use of 6,000 liters of water?

A2          Gopala Krishnan, Retired AGM BSNL

I am writing thisanswer from Chennai, India. Here more than the quantity of
filtered water bythe unit, Once a yearall filters are changed, once a quarter
paper filters are changed by the maintenancestaff. Cleaning ofover head tank at
least once a quarter is important.

Average consumptionper day is calculated about 15 liters. So in a month itself
450 liters arefiltered. So your question is correct.

If the filtering is more than that, even earlierreplacement of elements must be
required.

Mostly in Indiapower supply unit is damaged due to lightening, so even a year
2–3 times theyare replaced

Q3         Are there any eco-friendly septic tankpumping options available?

A3          Rajasekhar Gundala, Former Engineer Jul23

Yes, there are eco-friendly septic tank pumpingoptions available that
prioritize environmentally conscious practices. Here area few examples:

1. Pumping Companies Using Biodiesel: Someseptic tank pumping companies have
transitioned their fleet vehicles to run onbiodiesel fuel. Biodiesel is a
renewable fuel source that produces feweremissions and has a lower carbon
footprint compared to traditional diesel fuel.

2. Efficient Pumping Practices: Eco-friendlypumping companies may employ
practices that minimize water usage and disruptionto the surrounding
environment. They may use specialized equipment andtechniques to pump the tank
efficiently, reducing the amount of water requiredfor the process.

3. Proper Waste Disposal: Environmentallyconscious septic tank pumping
companies ensure proper waste disposal. They maypartner with treatment
facilities that use advanced methods to process andtreat the waste in an
environmentally friendly manner. Some companies evenrecycle the waste solids
into fertilizer or other usable products.

4. Septic System Inspections: In addition topumping, eco-friendly pumping
companies may offer septic system inspections toidentify any issues or
inefficiencies. By detecting problems early on, they canhelp homeowners address
them promptly, reducing the environmental impact andpotential damage to the
septic system.

When choosing aseptic tank pumping service, consider researching and reaching
out to localproviders to inquire about their eco-friendly practices. Ask about
their wastedisposal methods, fuel choices, and any other environmentally
friendlyinitiatives they undertake. Additionally, look for certifications
oraffiliations with environmental organizations that demonstrate their
commitmentto sustainable practices.

By selecting aneco-friendly septic tank pumping service, you can contribute to
minimizing theenvironmental impact associated with septic system maintenance
and ensureresponsible waste management.

Q4         Why is the Black Sea a sea and not alake?

A4          Rebecca Williams,MS in Accounting andFinance, New York University
Fri

The BlackSea is a sea and not a lake because it is connected to the Atlantic
Oceanthrough a series of straits and seas.

A sea isgenerally defined as a large body of salt water that is partly or
fullyenclosed by land but also has an outlet to the ocean.

***Alake, on the other hand, is a body of freshwater that is completely
surroundedby land, with no direct access to the ocean.

The Black Sea isconnected to the Atlantic Ocean by the Bosporus, the Sea of
Marmara, theDardanelles, the Aegean Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea. These
waterways form acontinuous passage that allows water exchange and marine life
migration betweenthe Black Sea and the ocean. The Black Sea also receives
freshwater input fromseveral major rivers, such as the Danube, the Dnieper, and
the Don.

The Black Sea issometimes called a mediterranean sea, which means a sea that is
almost orentirely surrounded by land. But, this term does not implythat the sea
is isolated from the ocean, as some Mediterranean seas havesignificant
connections to the ocean, such as the Mediterranean Sea itself. The Black Sea
is also sometimes called an inland sea, which means a sea thatis located far
from the ocean and has limited water exchange with it.But, this term does not
imply that the sea is entirely cut off from the ocean,as some inland seas have
narrow outlets to the ocean, such as the Baltic Seaand the Red Sea.

My note- ***In India there are most   lakesconnected to sea. They have light
salt water eg-Vembanattu kayal of Kerala.

Fresh water lake islike Sasthamkotta kayal in Kerala and few such lakes.

Q5         How come the wings of a plane can takesuch heavy loads and lift the
entire plane up? How are pilots so sure thatwings will hold a heavy plane up in
the sky and won't snap off?

A5          Eric Larsen, Commercial pilotcertificate with instrument, multi
ratings3h

The firstcut at the answer is that most planes have flown for many years,
through avariety of conditions. If there was going to be structural failure, it
wouldhave happened already.

Aircraftwings are designed by engineers. Modern structures benefit from finite
elementanalysis. There is testing. They test the wing until it fails. And that
is usually very dramatic, because it requires the wing to be stressedvery far
beyond any normal situation.

Anaircraft wing is going to be built based upon knowledge of how similar
sizedwings have performed in the past. They don’t buildwings using radically
new designs.

When you have a new aircraft design, it gets a lot ofinspection and scrutiny
during the early initial operating experience. If they start seeing cracks or
deformation, it gets a lot of attention. It getsredesigned, retrofitted, fixed.

This processdoes not always work perfectly. But pilots know that they are part
of a team ofpeople who care a lot.

Q6         What is it like to fly on an EmiratesAirline’s double decker A380
superjumbo jet?

A6          Peter Kubler,BVSc. in VeterinaryMedicine, University of Sydney
(Graduated 1971)3h

When the 380 firstwent into service I had to fly with Singapore from Sin to
Sydney and while the plane taxing around Idozed off for 30min. When I woke up,
I was not aware of the planeactually flying and I had to ask my fellow
passengers if we had taken off. Their reply was that we had beenflying for
about 20 min.

The acoustic level was so low that I could hardly believewe were already in the
air. The 380 is the best and mostcomfortable plane I have ever flown in. I am
happy to see that some are back inservice now. The Airbus 380 may not be the
choice of airlinecompanies due to costs but it has to be the number one choice
for theirpassengers.

Q7         Does the rusting of iron take place indry air?

A7          Erika Fernandez, Knows about ChemistrySat

No iron does not rust in dry air.Rusting is a chemical reaction that happens
when iron meets oxygen and water.Rust is actually a type of iron oxide, which
is a reddish-brown substance thatmakes iron look old and weak. Rustingcan
damage iron and steel objects, so people try to prevent it by coating themwith
paint, oil, or other metals that don’t rust easily.

But why does watermatter? Why can’t iron rust in dry air? Well, water is not
just a liquid, it’s also anelectrolyte. That means it can carry electric
charges and help electrons movefrom one atom to another. In rusting, water
helps oxygen take electrons fromiron, which makes iron lose its metallic
properties and become rust.Without water, there is no electric flow and no
rusting.

So, if the air iscompletely dry, meaningthere is no water vapor or moisture in
it, then iron won’t rust. But that’svery rare in nature. Most air has some
water in it, especially ifit’s humid or rainy.

And even if the air is very dry, there might be otherthings that can make iron
corrode, such as dust, smoke, or acid. So, it’sbetter to keep iron away from
both water and air if you wantto avoid rusting.
