Q1         How good is RO water for everydayconsumption?

A1          BK Sapan, B.Tech ,MBA from RajivGandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya,
Bhopal (Graduated 2003)Feb 28

Reverse Osmosis (RO) water is generally considered safefor everyday
consumption. Infact, many people prefer RO water for drinking and cooking
because it removesimpurities and contaminants that may be present in tap water,
such as bacteria, viruses, dissolved salts, and heavy metals.

RO water is produced by forcing water through asemi-permeable membrane, which
traps contaminants and allows only pure water topass through. The resulting
water is free frommost impurities, but it may also lack some essential minerals
that are presentin natural water sources. This is because the membrane used in
the RO process can filter outminerals as well as contaminants.

While consuming ROwater is generally considered safe and healthy, it is
important to note that itmay not be the best source of essential minerals like
calcium and magnesium. If you are concerned about mineralintake, you may want
to consider drinking mineral water or adding mineralsupplements to your diet.

Overall, RO water is a safe and convenient option foreveryday consumption.
However, it is always a good ideato ensure that the water you are drinking is
of good quality and has beenproperly filtered and treated to remove any
potential contaminants.

Q2         Is RO water better than commerciallyavailable water cans or bottled
water like Aquafina?

A2          Venkateswara Swamy Swarna,FormerScientist, Metallurgist, Quality /
NDT Manager at Department of Atomic Energy,India (1967–2008)1y

Aquafina and other leading brands of bottled water arealso made using RO and
other state of the art water purification technologiesand some minerals are
added to maintain the taste.

Domestic RO units also have taste maker modules in somemodels.

Whether to investin a domestic RO water purifier (with its initial cost and
annual servicecosts) or whether to buy Aquafina / other leading brands of water
- depends onyour personal preference.

Some people preferto buy 20 liter refills and others prefer to buy half liter,
one liter or twoliter bottles…

All the options aresafe health wise but vary in their economics (cost per
liter). Also, somepeople are against the plastic bottles though most of them
are recycled.

My note- I have ROSystem installed  as well as we purchasebarrel water. RO
water is used for cooking and drinking and barrel water forother uses like
washing rice etc.

Interesting reason for purchasing barrel  water- When there is veryless water
in bore-well  and Muncipalsupply become irregular, RO cannot be operated more
because of waste water. Further when RO system fails, barrel water will be
readily available,since we regularly purchase.

Q3         Should you add anything to your septictank?

A3          David Thomas, Professional Engineer,Civil, Alaska1y

Nope. There are plenty of bacteria in what you send into the septic tank
andthey’ve been growing and developing into strains that like your
groundtemperatures and wastewater stream for many year now.

If you have a lot of people in the house, use yourgarbage disposal a lot and
have a poor septic tank installation that allows itto get cold every winter,
you’ll need to get it pumped out every few years toremove the solids.

If there are fewer users, you don’t use your GD towash large quantities of food
waste down the drain and your septic is warm(because it’s deep and/or close to
the house and/or you live in the south) thenit’ll only need to be pumpedout
every 10–20 years.

Don’t pour large quantities of toxic chemicals downthe drain - no gallon jugs
of bleach. Normal quantities of household chemicals, diluted into a bucket of
mopping water or a load of laundry and by the week’sother water uses are fine.

Your septic tank doesn’t need RID-X, your engineoil doesn’t need STP, and your
refrigerator doesn’t need a box of baking soda, even though you’ll increase the
sales for those companies, if you obey theiradvertising.

My note- Flushing with more water willavoid blocking. Septic tank become full
earlier should not be in the mindbecause, removing block is three times
costlier than septic tank cleaning.

Q4         For a British person who has traveledto the United States, which
technological advances impressed you the most?

A4          Jaydee, Lives in The United Kingdom(1954–present)22h

Contactless payment; e-booths at immigration;restaurants which tell you what
you owe, the total including service; shopswhich tell you what you are expected
to pay, not add on extras when you get tothe till.

Hang on a mo, that was before we left the UK, Sorry US, youdeed to catch up.

Q5         Why is 120/80 considered normal bloodpressure? What's the logic
behind 120 and 80? Is that value normal at any age,or does "normal" change?

A5          HealthyMen, Men’s Health specialistJul 27

The values 120/80 mmHg are considered normal blood pressurebased on standard
medical guidelines, and they represent the pressure exertedon the blood vessels
during the cardiac cycle.

The two numbers ina blood pressure reading have specific meanings:

1. Systolic Pressure (120): The top number, alsoknown as systolic pressure,
represents the pressure in the arteries when the heart contracts and pumpsblood
out into the circulation.

2. Diastolic Pressure (80): The bottom number, diastolic pressure, indicates the
pressure in the arteries when the heart is at rest between beats.

The reason why120/80 mmHg is considered normal is that it reflects a healthy
balance of bloodpressure in the arteries, indicating that the heart
iseffectively pumping blood while also allowing the vessels to relax and
fillwith blood during its resting phase. These values indicate that the
cardiovascular system isfunctioning optimally.

It's importantto note that "normal" blood pressure can vary slightly depending
onfactors such as age, gender, and individual health conditions.

Bloodpressure tends to naturally increase with age, and what is considered
normalfor a young adult might be slightly higher for an older adult.

Therefore, blood pressure ranges are often categorized intodifferent stages,
such as normal, elevated, stage 1 hypertension, and stage 2hypertension,
allowing healthcare professionals to assess and manage blood pressure
levelsappropriately.

Regular bloodpressure check-ups are essential to monitor changes over time and
detect anypotential issues early. If blood pressure consistentlyfalls outside
the normal range, medical attention and lifestyle adjustments maybe necessary
to prevent complications and maintain cardiovascular health. As always, it's
best to consultwith a healthcare professional to understand your specific blood
pressure goalsand any necessary interventions.

Q6         What are the pros and cons ofinstalling a whole house water filter
or a reverse osmosis system at home?

Robert Durtschi, Workingas Plumber for a Time with a at Independent Master
Plumber (2009–present)11mo

Pro: your whole house is filtered.

Con: yourwhole house is filtered because of that you will need to supply
replacementfilters more often.

The filter I useresides next to the kitchen sink. Which is where you need it
99% of the time. Ifound it by looking at many many reviews looking at the cost
per gallon and howsoon the filter needs to be replaced. It took no tools to
install I built aplatform to put it on so I could fit taller containers such as
gallon jugsunder it. We had used it for 5 years and we are considering
replacing it justnow. You may not last that long, we are empty nesters!
Although my wife was using it towater her plants but I finally Persuaded her to
use rain water instead. Iwas have posted the contact information on it
recently. We had installed awhole house filter back in Utah when I was working
in San Jose, California andmy wife was living in Utah. (Thank heaven for free
cell to cell minutes!)

My note-Most plants grow well with rain water or natural water than with
filtered water.Of course you get filteredwater in wash basins, in wash rooms
etc. For water heaters it is good, for bathit is good,  but for toilet uses and
septic tank function normal water isbetter.

Q7         What are some British phrases thatAmericans don't understand?

A7          David D’Angelo,Father of One(2020–present)Aug 2

Fanny.

When I’m pissedyou’ll probably think it’s because of my boss, wife, or
political system, butit’s because of all the alcohol.

When I talk aboutmy bum I mean my backside, not my personal homeless guy.

If I say somethingis rubbish, I want you to throw it away. I’m not saying it
sucks.

When I say I reallyneed to use your loo, please don’t stare at me blankly. It
means I really needto pee, and preferably not in your pot plant.

In the UK apavement is what you walk on, not a 90s Indi Rock band.

We have chips withfish.Biscuits are cookies.Men wear jumpers. We also wear
really short pants.

I should probablysay bloke, but you’ll be lost with that one.

Oh, and football isa game we play with our feet, not with our hands. As
confusing as that sounds.
