Excellent write up. I wake up early morning and by 5.45 AM itself it is dawn.
I will be ready to open the doors, one or two crows will be cawing sitting in
power line. Hurriedly opening the door, I will get in and bring biscuits to
feed them. Normally two biscuits will be cu to pieces and I place on compound
wall. Most of the bits will be eaten.
One day I found crow coming in evening and then on wards I make it sure a few
bits are there on the wall.
Some days more crows appear, reason not known, I will provide additional
biscuit pieces for them.
By this time three street dogs will appear, each are fed two biscuits. I will
provide in different locations, so with out much competition they eat. I will
show empty hand and then they will go. Dogs are yamadoothas and they will
inform Lord yama that they are fed and Yama will become happy. It is believed,
even those on serious illness get cured and come back to life by this action.
There was a time crows and dogs will eat rice. Nowadays they are not interested
unless extremely hungry. If we place rice and biscuit, they will eat biscuit
and fly.
By the time groups of cows appear, one among them eat the rice kept for cows in
the night after meals. I make sure two handful of rice will be for cows after
taking food.

சிரார்த்தம்.சிரார்த்தம் செய்யும்போது அரிசி செய்த உருண்டை வடிவ பிண்டத்தை
தண்ணீரில் கரைப்பர்.நம் முன்னோர் இறந்த திதியை கவனமாக நினைவில் கொண்டு சிரார்த்தம்
செய்வதன் மூலம், அவர்களது ஆசி நமக்கு கிடைக்கும்.அமாவாசைகளில் தை அமாவாசை, முக்கிய
இடம் பிடிக்கிறது. தை மாதத்தில் சூரியன் மகரராசியில் இருப்பார். இந்த ராசியின்
அதிபதி, சனி. சூரியன், சனியின் தந்தை. தந்தையை பிதா அல்லது பித்ருஎன்பர். தந்தை,
மகனின்வீட்டில் இருக்கும்போது, அவருக்கு மதிப்பளிக்க வேண்டியது மகனின் கடமை.
இதனால் தாய், தந்தையுடன் வசிப்பவர்கள், அமாவாசையன்று அவர்களுக்கு விருப்பமானதை
வாங்கிக் கொடுக்க வேண்டும்.அவர்களை இழந்தவர்கள் தர்ப்பணம், சிரார்த்தம் மூலம்
திருப்திபடுத்த வேண்டும்.இதுபோல் இந்நாளில் காகத்துக்கு உணவிடுவர். இதற்கான
காரணத்தை உத்தர ராமாயணம் சொல்கிறது...
மருத்தன் என்ற மன்னன், மாகேஸ்வர பூஜை எனப்படும் சிவனை
வழிபட்டு, அன்னதானம் செய்தான். இதில், இந்திரன் உள்ளிட்ட தேவர்கள் மற்றும் எமன்
பங்கேற்றனர். அந்த நேரத்தில் இலங்கைமன்னன் ராவணன் அங்கே வந்தான்.
அவனால் தங்களுக்கு துன்பம் வரும் என நினைத்த தேவர்கள், பறவைகள்வடிவில்
மாறி பறந்தனர். காகமாக மாறினான், எமன்.
இந்த நன்றிக்காக, அவன் காகங்கள் மீது அன்பு
செலுத்தினான். மனித உயிர்களை பறித்த பிறகு, அவர்களது ஆத்ம சாந்திக்காக
அவர்களதுஉறவினர்கள் இடும் சிரார்த்த உணவு, இனி காகங்களுக்கே கிடைக்கும் என்ற
விதியை உருவாக்கினான். அன்று முதல் காகங்களுக்கு உணவிடும் வழக்கம் வந்தது.
காகங்களுக்கு தினமும் உணவிடுவதன் மூலம் நம் பாவங்களும், முன்னோர் செய்தபாவங்களும்
நீங்கும். பிறப்பற்ற நிலைக்கு இந்த தர்மம் வித்திடும்.

தினத்தன்று சூரியனும், சந்திரனும்சேர்ந்து இருக்கும். அதற்குபின் வரும்நாட்களில்
சந்திரன் தினமும் சூரியனில் இருந்து விலகிச் சென்று கொண்டே இருக்கும்.
இந்தவிலகலானது தினமும் சுமார் 12 டிகிரி வரை இருக்கும்.

WHY WE FEED CROWS?
Somepeople have custom of feeding crow every day. Many people, irrespective
ofcaste & creed feed crows on New Moon days. Shani Bhagavan is usuallymounted
on a crow and hence crows are offered food to please Shani Bhagawan
onSaturdays. Brahmins feed crows on the days they do TARPANAM and SRADDHAM
totheir ancestors.

But the day that everyone chooses to feedthe crow is the new MOON DAY.
On the New moon day, one goes to theRiver Banks to do
Tarpanam.There are some differences between Tarpanam and Sraddham.Taking some
sesame seeds and putting them in the water is called Tarpanam. Itis enough to
feed our ancestors with some sesame seeds and water. And if it isgiven in
water, they will accept it as their food and be satisfied. Sraddham meansto do
diligently (carefully). Subsequently, every year Sraddham date is to
bedetermined based on the TITI on the date of death as well as considering
NewMoon/ Full Moon (Vallarpirai, Theipirai)
Whiledoing Sraddham, the rice balls are dissolved inwater.
By noting the TITI of our forefathers anddoing Sraddham, we get their
blessings. Among the new moons, the TAI month (Jan14/15-12 Feb) new moon
occupies an important place. Sun will be in Capricorn in themonth of THAI.
Saturn is the Lord of this sign. Sun is the father of Saturn.Father is called
pitha or pitru. When the father isin his son's house, it is the duty of the son
to respect him. Thus those who live with their mother and father shouldbuy and
give them whatever they like on Amavasya. Those who have lostthem should be
appeased by doing Tarpanam and Sraddham. Similarly, crows are tobe fed on this
day. Feeding a crow is considered auspicious and is practiced onall sorts of
occasions, tied to all sorts of rituals. The Sraddham has concluded when a crow
pecks atthe feast and begins to eat. This signifies that the soul of the
lovedone is now satiated and is at peace.
UTTARA RAMAYANA tells the reason for this...
Aking named Marutha worshiped Shiva by performing Maheswara Pooja and
offered food. Inthis, Devas including INDRA and YAMAparticipated. At that time
the king of Sri Lanka RAVANA came there. Fearing, he would cause trouble, the
Gods took theform of birds and flew away. YAMAturned into a crow.
Ingratitude, he loved the crows. YAMA made it a rule that the Sraddham
food offeredby their relatives for PITRU atma shanthi, would now be available
only tocrows. Thus he ordered those who fed, to be givenby their forefathers.
From that day onwards the custom of feeding crows came.By feeding crows daily,
our sins and the sins of our ancestors will be ERASED.
This dharma sows the seed to the state of birthlessness.

BEING A CROW NEXT LIFE!!

The other day when we werechitchatting with friends and the
hot topic of the day was
“What we would like to be in next life”
if at all we were born again.
Some of my friends dreamt tobe like famous personalities and some pet
animals.
When my turn came I told that I want to be born
asa “CROW “.
Everybodywas shocked and started laughing. My friend
Manisha asked me the reason for selecting such abird, and also commented that
how could I even dream to be such a BIRD???.
Ihave my own personal notions towards a crow since my childhood, when I was
achild I fell sick often and the days I spent in school is very less compared
tothe days I spent resting at home. During those days I used to observe
thenature a lot from inside the windows of my bedroom and balcony. The only
bird Ioften come across is our common crow, cawing all the way from morning
sunriseto sunset.
Evennow, if you observe the sounds outside we can listen to
some man made sounds ofvehicles and the cawing of crows. May be, in city
traffic you won’t hear much. But, inany residential locality the black common
crows are evident.
As per Hindu mythology, Shani Bhagavan is usually mounted on acrow and
hence crows are offered food to please Shani Bhagawan on Saturdays. Some
consider them as ancestorswho visit their hereditary families on Amavasya days.
The crows aregiven food on these days and the other days theyare not considered
so sacred.
I Feelimmense pleasure in feeding crows,
as they have some special uniquecharacteristics. Without inviting other
fellowcrows they usually don’t have food and they are very punctual too. Every
day they will visit us at the same time wefeed. My breakfast is never complete
without a crow’s company. Even if I forget a day it visitsme in each and every
window and waits patiently until its turn comes.
Crows are well known for its intelligence and communication skills. I
like them especially because they always stay in groups andhave emotions also
like humans.. This can be seen when a fellow crow dies, they gather in a
hugecrowd to find out what happened and even chase their enemies.
Crows even remember our faces and recognises us when we are notin our
usual place. Of all the good qualities, itis said to keep life long
relationship with its kids by coming and perching everyday on the same tree
where breeding took place. Whether people considerit to be a good luck or bad
luck I would always love to be born as a crow in my next life!!!!!.

laudable. Especially you say as a reason that nobody would harm if ubecome crow
indicates the extent to which humans perpetrate cruelty on haplessbirds and

Last but not least, the dangerfrom others is very less to
a crow than any other bird or animal or human so tosome extent I can have a
very safe life on earth in my next life.
