Respected sir,
Regarding your last para about Araikkasu amman and Thondaiman, Maharaja of
Pudukkottai,
What I understand from Brahamdambal temple authorities is araikasu is half of a
kasu. but in round shape.
About two years back I had been to Pudukkottai, to fulfill some prayers by my
wife made during 1979, while I was working there as Sub divisional Officer and
junior Engineer for some period
I had a visit to the temple and my wife noted a board stating Araikasu is
available to distribute to devotees. She was interested to get one.
With much difficulty after paying Rs 50-00, I got one araikasu, about 1.5 cm in
diameter. All description you wrote are there except the size. It is circular.
They took it from a large clay jar and gave to us, under issue receipt from
the temple. So it is authoritative.
For not missing I have put it in a cover along with similar items in a cover of
about 10 cm x 10 cm and kept safe in my box.

patron of lost things. He's the one they go to when they cannot locate a prized
possession. Have you heard of ARAIKASU AMMAN? The first person who most
likely comes to our minds when weare desperately searching for lost things is –
God! Irrespective of howreligious we are normally or how regular we are in our
prayers, whenever wemisplace something important and cannot locate it, we send
out a cry for helpto the divine powers. Sometimes, depending on the urgency and
criticality ofthe situation, we add some perquisites as well – ranging from
materialisticofferings to the lord to personal visits. In some Indian homes,
its commonpractise to knot a coin in a cloth and keep beside the picture of
theirpreferred God as a kind of reminder to fulfil their promises once they get
backtheir lost stuff.
Question is, which God is best suited for praying to recoverlost things? The
answer is quite obvious in case of monotheistic religions likeChristianity,
Islam or Judaism. Hinduism being a Polytheistic religion offers aplethora of
choices. It could be the family Deity, the most famous Lord of theseven hills,
the eagle mount perched on the corner of the temple wall in thevillage etc.
However, it is to the credit of Hinduism that the multiplicity ofGods &
Goddesses does not really complicate matters. Rather, each Diety isassigned
ownership and responsibility of a certain aspect impacting humans. Wehave a
Goddess Lakshmi to pray to for financial benefits, Goddess Saraswati
forknowledge, God Ganesha for blessings while starting a new venture etc. This
can be compared to a well structured organization with clearly
defineddepartments and respective heads.
It was while writing another post (The Runaway Brother),that I recalled the
framed picture of a Goddess hanging in my maternal home, towhich we would pray
when we lost something important. I could not recall hername though and called
up my mother to find out the same. When my mother toldher name, Araikasu Amman,
I was intrigued, as the name literally translates to– the Half Coined (Arai
Kasu) Goddess (Amman). The Goddess, who looks similarto the seated four handed
Parvati Deity in most Siva temples, is also known asBrahadambal. The original
temple of Brahadambal with her consort,Gokarneswar (Siva), in Thirukokarnam
(near Pudukottai, Tamil Nadu) is a rock-cutPallava temple dating back to the
early 7 century AD. Various inscriptionsfound in the temple provide a glimpse
into its rich past and contributions ofthe Pandya, Pallava and Nayak rulers.
Brahadambal was also the guardianDeity of the Thodaiman rulers of Pudukkottai
(early 17th Century AD).
Legend has that, a Thodaiman king once lost an importantdocument and could not
find it even after a lot of effort. He then prayed tothe Goddess Brahadambal
for getting the document back. When the documentwas found, the overjoyed and
grateful king had coins minted with the image ofGoddess Brahadambal on one
side, which were then distributed to his subjects onimportant occasions and
festivals. These coins were in a semi circular shape(Arai Kasu) and the Goddess
thus came to be known as the AraiKasu Amman. Peoplecontinued to pray to the
Goddess for recovering lost objects and missing peopleand have reported having
their prayers answered. While the Goddess is mostly associated with recovery of
lostmaterialistic things, she most likely has the power to also restore lost
peace, tolerance and love. Only, people don’t pray for such things! K R

Q1 Whyare some electrical outlets tight and others loose without any
visible damage?
A1 Gopala Krishnan, Former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at
Department of Telecom (1966–2004)Just now
I am answering fromChennai, India. Present days we get quality products and
power sockets are provided withswitch.
Henceit is not necessary to remove the plugs from equipment frequently used
fromsockets. Eg:-Wet grinder, mixer, mosquito repellent electrical equipment,
Tablefans connected via plug, water heat connector plug, hood plugs etc.
Earlier for grip insocket the plug pins were provided with a split, which could
be widened for grip, but not available now a days.
So best thing since loosesocket plug points will create shock/fire hazards,
best to replace them.Use quality sockets so that wear and tear will be minimum
Q2 Are wall fans a smart investment?
Q2 Anmol Hashia. Product Manager atLuminous Power Technologies (Indian
company) (2019–present)1y
Yes, wall fans area smart investment given the many benefits they provide. Here
are some of the manybenefits of a wall fan.
· They Demand Less Space:
A wall mount fan iscompact in size and occupies less space. They are ideal for
small spaces such as tents, storerooms, and for homes that do not have enough
ceiling space.
· They are Power Efficient:
Even though allkinds of fans, be it ceiling fans or floor fans consume less
power,wall-mounted fans offer relatively lower power consumption without
compromisingon the output.
They are Quiet Effective at Cooling:
As most wall fansrotate in multiple directions, they offer maximum cooling.
· They are Affordable:
If price is aconstraint for you, wall fans are ideal as they have a lower wall
mount price. They are compact and most importantly easy on the pocket.
That said, wallfans are indeed a smart investment. However, a smart investment
is also whenyou invest in products from reputable brands like Luminous.
Luminous has had animpressive track record of providing the best electrical
solutions.
My note- On those days in rented homesceiling fans were notprovided. So we used
tablefans with good net finishing kept on stools in bed rooms etc.
In pooja rooms, corridors with less width, storerooms etc, normally wall
mounting fansare provided. These fans have no problems since properly seated.
However even with quality fans, there is breaking ofouter body, breaking out
from base plate etc. even if we keep the fan atlower speed.
Breaking from baseis rectified by providing large screws/tighten old screws,
breaking of body at neck, if major, the fanis disposed. The fan has to be
discarded.
Q3 What are the consequences of being lateto get off a cruise ship in
port?
A3 David Townsend, Over 50 cruisestaken1h
Unless it is yourport of departure none what so ever, staying on in port is
perfectly normal, but if you are meant to depart the ship you are causing them
amassive problem as they are generally not allowed to board the new
passengersuntil their count is down to zero.
First the ship willmake announcements, probably a lot of announcements, and
then they will searchthe ship for you and they have cameras in a lot of places
plus a lot of crewwho will be eager to get ready for the new people.
You willbe removed in the end and the cruise line may take some action like
refusingany new bookings from you.
Q4 Why would you place a capacitorparallel to a resistor?
A4 Electro Tech Stack, Content writer forElectroTechStack2h
Placing a capacitorin parallel with a resistor is a common technique in
electronics and circuitdesign. This combination isused to create specific
circuit behaviors and to achieve certainfunctionalities. The primary reasons
for placing a capacitor in parallelwith a resistor include:
Filtering and Signal Conditioning: Capacitors areknown for their ability to
pass alternating current (AC) signals while blockingdirect current (DC).
Whenplaced in parallel with a resistor, the capacitor can allow AC signalsto
bypass the resistor and pass through the circuit. This is useful for filtering
out certain frequenciesand allowing others to pass.
This configuration is commonly used in filter circuitslike low-pass filters and
high-pass filters to shapethe frequency response of a circuit.
Time Constants and Delays: The combination of aresistor and capacitor in
parallel forms an RC circuit. The time constant of anRC circuit (given by the
product of the resistance and capacitance) determineshow quickly the circuit
responds to changes in voltage. This property is usedfor creating delays in
circuit operations, such as in timing circuits or delaylines.
Integration and Differentiation: When a voltagesignal is applied across a
resistor-capacitor (RC) circuit, the capacitorcharges and discharges over time.
This behavior can be used for integration(accumulation of input signal over
time) or differentiation (finding the rateof change of the input signal)
purposes. These properties are particularly useful in signal
processingapplications.
Noise Filtering and Stabilization: Capacitors canhelp to filter out noise and
stabilize voltage levels. Placing a capacitor inparallel with a resistor can
help smooth out voltage fluctuations caused byvariations in the input signal.
This is important in applications where astable and noise-free voltage supply
is necessary.
Impedance Matching: In some cases, a parallelcombination of a resistor and
capacitor can be used to match the impedance of acircuit to achieve maximum
power transfer. This technique is often employed inRF (radio frequency) and
communication systems.
Tone Control and Equalization: In audio systems,resistor-capacitor combinations
can be used to control the tonalcharacteristics of audio signals, affecting the
bass and treble frequencies.
Rememberthat the behavior of the circuit will depend on the values of the
resistor andcapacitor used, as well as the specific circuit configuration.
The relationshipbetween the resistor and capacitor values determines the time
constants andfrequency responses of the circuit, influencing its overall
behaviour andfunction.
Q5 What is the oldest thing humans stilldo the same way?
A5 RI Shohag,19h
Margaret Mead American anthropologist, had an answer that Ifound very
interesting.
“A student once asked anthropologist MargaretMead what sheconsidered the first
sign of civilization in a culture.
The studentexpected the anthropologist to talk about hooks, clay bowls, or
whetstones, butno.
Meadsaid the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture is evidence of
aperson with a broken femur having healed.
Meadexplained that in the rest of the animal kingdom, if you break your leg,
youdie. You cannot run away from danger, go to the river to drink water, or hunt
forfood. You become fresh meat for predators. No animal survives a broken leg
longenough for the bone to heal.
Abroken femur that has healed is proof that someone took the time to stay
withthe one who fell, healed the injury, got the person tosafety, and cared for
them until they died. recovers. “Helping someone throughhardship is the
starting point of civilization,” Mead explained. Civilization is community
help."
Helping othersis humanity's oldest concept.
Q6 Do airplanes need more space to land ortakeoff?
A6 Vishnu Ravi, Aerospace Engineer |Aviation Enthusiast & Content
Creator Aug 10
In the realm ofaviation, the dynamicsof flight are an intricate dance between
the forces of lift, thrust, and drag.
Key tothis dance are the take off and landing distances of an aircraft, which
play acrucial role in ensuring safe and efficient operations in the skies.Let's
delve into the fascinating world of aviation physics as we explore theessential
concepts of take off and landing distances.
Take off Distance: The First Leap into the Sky
The take offdistance of an aircraft is a fundamental metric that defines the
space itrequires to transition from a stationary position to soaring through
the skies.Specifically, it refers tothe horizontal span covered from the
initial point of takeoff roll to the momentthe aircraft elevates to a height of
15 feet above the takeoff surface. This ascension is achieved in a manner
consistent with reaching V2 speed beforesurpassing 35 feet above the take-off
surface.
Calculatingthe take-off distance is a meticulous process that involves
considering variousfactors. Typically, thismetric is determined under the
assumption of maximum weight and standardatmospheric conditions. However, it's
important to note that thetake-off distance is far from a fixed value; it
varies significantly based onthe aircraft's type, weight, and prevailing
environmental conditions such aswind, runway length, and temperature.
Landing Distance: The Graceful Touchdown
On the opposite endof the flight spectrum,we encounter the concept of landing
distance – the space an aircraft requiresto execute a safe and controlled
touchdown.
This distance ismeasured horizontally from a selected point on the approach
path, situated at aspecific height above the landing surface, to the precise
location on theground where the aircraft eventually halts its motion.
The landingdistance is a multi-faceted metric, comprised of two distinct
phases: theairborne section and the subsequent ground run. The airborne portion
commences as the aircraftreaches a height of 50 feet, while maintaining the
correct approach and landingspeed, often referred to as Vref or landing
reference speed, as itcrosses over the runway threshold. This phase concludes
when the aircraft's main wheels makecontact with the runway, initiating the
ground roll.
As the aircraftembarks on its ground roll, the landing distance continues to
unfold. Aconfluence of factors intricately influences this metric, including
the weight of theaircraft, prevailing wind conditions, the length of the
runway, and even theslope of the runway surface.
A Synchronized of Variables
Both take off andlanding distances underscore the intricate interplay of
diverse variables thatinfluence an aircraft's performance during critical
phases of flight. Factors such as aircraft weight, wind speed and direction,
runway length, and even the incline of the runwayitself collectively shape the
numbers that define these distances.
In the realm ofaviation, precision is paramount. Pilots, engineers, and
aviation expertsmeticulously calculate and analyze these distances to ensure
the safety ofpassengers and crew, as well as the efficiency of flight
operations. Bycomprehending the nuances of take off and landing distances,
aviationprofessionals empower themselves with the knowledge required to
navigate theskies with confidence and finesse.
Conclusion
In the world ofaviation, where every inch matters and every variable counts,
the concepts oftakeoff and landing distances stand as pillars of safety and
performance. Theintricate choreography between an aircraft's capabilities and
the surroundingenvironment shapes these distances, ultimately determining the
success of eachflight. So, the next time you find yourself gazing at the sky,
marvel at theprecision and science that allow airplanes to conquer the heavens
and touchdown gracefully on Earth's surface.
Q7 You have absolutely no idea wheresomething small is but you know

I oncelost the diamond from my engagement ring. About a carat or so. I
wasfreaking out. Went outside and saw my son and his friends playing ball. I
heldup a $20 (1990 good money for 9 year olds), I said go search the house,
whoeverfinds the diamond getsthe $20. 20 minutes later and no mess, it was
found.
If it’s animportant small thing and you have kids, grandkids, nieces or nephews
have themgrab some friends and search your house. Depending on value of small
thing, have a $50 bill handy. Good luck 🍀 Let us know if your find it!
My note- A strong illumination torch can help manytimes. Once after going out
for an in auspicious thing, I took bath in theevening. I was wearing a watch. I
forgot about it for days. Having two more watches,Iforgot about it. After a
week I foundthe watch missing. Everywheresearched, finally I found it kept
inthe water tap inserting over it in the bath room. I never noticed it though
I was taking bath for a week in thebath room!!
