Hyderabad: Osmania University student Byri Naresh, who was arrested for making blasphemous statements, hurting the religious sentiments of a community, has confessed to the offence, police said on Monday.
Following the statements of Naresh at an event on December 19 in Vikarabad, protests have erupted across the state. On December 31, Vikarabad police arrested Naresh along with his accomplice, D Hanumanthu, for organising the event. They were remanded in judicial custody. In the remand report, cops mentioned that Naresh confessed to have committed the offence. “On enquiry, Naresh revealed that he deliberately made blasphemous statemen-ts against a community,” cops said adding that another accused Hanumanthu, knowingly invited Naresh to the event organised by him to make objectionable statements. Police said that Naresh has a criminal record and he was accused in three cases, including a similar offence committed at Chittigidda in Vikarabad, in April 2022. A chargesheet was also filed in the same case against Naresh and co-accused Rajesh, under sections 153(A), 295(A), 298, 504 r/w 34 of the IPC in December 2022, for allegedly making statements, hurting the religious sentiments of people.
