 Respected Sir/s,

SUBJECT:MANGO GINGER

Mangoginger plant is native to India and occurs in the wild state in parts
ofBengal, Konkan, and Madras.

Indians and Chinese are believed to have produced ginger as a tonic
rootfor over 5000 years to treat many ailments, and this plant is now
cultivatedthroughout the humid tropics, with India being the largest producer.
Ginger wasused as a flavouring agent long before history was formally recorded.

Chinese ginger was brought to the Indian Ocean by traderswho took it to
the southern Indian port of what is now Kerala. These tradersthen bartered
their ginger with Indian traders who shipped it to China. This washow ginger
made its way to India from China.

Ayurveda and Unani medicinalsystems have given much importance to MANGO GINGER
as an appetizer, alexteric and antipyretic, aphrodisiac, diuretic, emollient,

flavour, which is described as sweet with subtle earthy floral and pepper
overtones and similar to that of raw mango. It is used as an addition to salads
and stir fries, in SouthAsian and Southeast Asian as well as Far East Asian
cuisines.

Mangoginger is used in making pickles in south India andchutneys in north
India. It is served aschutney in community feasts in Nepal's southern plains.
Mango ginger and elephant foot yam pickle is popular inNepal's southern plains.

Mango Ginger, also known as Maanga Inzhi  is a powerful spice which, as
per Ayurveda, is usedfor various health issues.

It may look like normal ginger due to its irregularly branched
rhizomesand white flesh, but it is not really ginger and has the rich sweet
flavour ofraw mango.

However, mango ginger is nowhereclose to a mango or a ginger.
Well, thespice actually belongs to the same family as Turmeric. But unlike
turmeric’srich yellow tissue, mango ginger just has a pale yellow core.

Almost all the major languages of India have a name for
thespice, suggesting its long history of use in the country.

In Bengal, it is known as amaada, in Gujaratit’s known as amba haldar. In
Malayalam it’s referred to as  മാങ്ങാ ഇഞ്ചി
