It is really heart breaking to see many of those who have studied in English medium don't know to read and write in Tamizh although they can speak, somewhat haltingly and hesitatingly. Not being able to read deprives them of the benefit of reading the Tamizh poems / classics / stories / essays by, among others, Avvai patti, Bharthi, Kannadasan, Kalki, Chandilyan, Deepam Naa Parthasarathy, Kothamangalam Subbu, Idyam Pesukirathu Manian and others like Cho Sir and Sujatha of course. I am not even mentioning Kambar, Thiruvalluvar and others as you need some guidance to understand them. My first reading of the Ramayanam and Mahabharatham was by the ones written by Rajaji and then by Cho Sir. They (the present day kids) don't know what they miss. Before anyone asks why I am typing in English - I don't have Tamizh fonts, a lame excuse may be.
