Respected Sir/s,

CULTURAL QA 12-2023-19A

Q1:  What are some of thegreatest examples of presence of mind?

A1:Some of the greatest examples of presence of mind
1.SwamiVivekananda went to the USA for the Convention of Parliament of
Religions. After the world-famous speech, he became very popular among Americans.
Americanswere fascinated by his intelligence. One day a young lady came to him
and askedhim to marry her.

Swamijiwas bewildered and asked her why she wanted to marry him. She answered
that, she was fascinated by Swamiji's intelligence and wanted an intellectual
childlike him.

Swamijismiled and answered the young lady. Yes, miss, your demand is very much
right. But think again, first marry then give birth to a child but there is
noguarantee on the intellectual capabilities of the child as that is
uncertainand the while process takes a long time.

I have a simple and 100 % assuredsolution if you desire. Oh, very
good. What is that? Miss getting excited.

Take me as your son. Become my mother and all the desire of you, having a
child-like me, will be accomplished in no time.

2.Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was going to meet Hitler.Hitler had more than two
of three dummies for his safety. Netaji was waiting atthe hall for Hitler while
reading a newspaper. Hitler passed infront ofSubhash. Netaji noticed that but
didn't show any reaction.

Secondtime again Hitler passed but Subhash didn't show any
reaction. The third timewas also the same.
On thefourth time Hitler came behind and put a hand of
Netaji's shoulder. This timeSubhash stood up and shook hands with Hitler.
Hitler asked Netaji, three times I passed infront of you but youdidn't show any
reaction.

Netaji answered, they are not you. Theyall your dummies.

Hitler wondered, how did you know that they are all my dummies?

Netaji answered, in the way that he could, except the originalHitler none of
the dummies have the courage toput his hand on Subhash's shoulder. When youput
your hand on my shoulder I recognized, it was you.
3. GeorgeBarnard Shaws was a famous writer and philosopher. Hewas not handsome.
In an occasion, he met a famous actress. She was a fanof his writing.
That day the actress proposed to marry him. Barnard asked himwhy? The actress
answered:

Justimagine how famous will be our child with my beauty and your intellect.

Barnard Shaws smiled and replied. You have a point lady, but what if the
features are reversed, and the child gets your intelligence and my physical
features?

Q2:    Can you tell me an example to never give up,never fear from anyone?

A2:

·      "I have pledged myself and mycolleagues in the cabinet to a continuous
encouragement of initiative, responsibility and energy in serving the public
interest. Let every public servantknow, whether his post is high or low, that a
man's rank and reputation in thisAdministration will be determined by the size
of the job he does, and not bythe size of his staff, his office or his budget.
Let it be clear that thisAdministration recognizes the value of dissent and
daring -- that we greethealthy controversy as the hallmark of healthy change.
Let the public servicebe a proud and lively career. And let every man and woman
who works in any areaof our national government, in any branch, at any level,
be able to say withpride and with honour in future years: 'I served theUnited
States Government in that hour of our nation's need.'"  --"AnnualMessage to the
Congress on the State of the Union (11)," January 30, 1961,Public Papers of the
Presidents: John F. Kennedy, 1961.

·       Nelson Mandela: Mandela overcame his fear of persecution
andimprisonment to fight for the end of apartheid in South Africa. He spent
27years in prison but eventually became the country's first black president.

·       By reciting RAMANAAMA,the silent recitation to the Hindu god, Gandhi
was able to overcome hischildish phobias and ultimately master fear throughout
his entire life. He came to realize that anindividual could practice
non-violence only when they had conquered fear, theinjustice of the mind.

Q3:What isthe biggest culture shock you have ever faced?

A3: The meaning of cultural shock is a disruptive feeling that peopleexperience
in a country, place or environment that is new orforeign to them”. Whether it
is the lifestyle, food, language or the look andfeel of a place.

·      Culture shock doesn't discriminate. Foreignersvisiting India also find
it extremely difficult to function at first. The waythey struggle to bargain
with auto wallas and with eating even moderately spicyfood are good cultural
differences examples that affect non-Indians.

·      As Indians, we’ve always beenaccustomed to an array of diverse
cuisines, particularly our beloved spicy food. So, imagine the disappointment
when youdecide to try a classic American burger.  Take a big, hearty bite,
expecting anexplosion of flavours. But what youget is a bland, tasteless
surprise! Wherewere the fiery spices that one  grew upwith? It felt like a
parade of flavours had skippedour palate entirely!

·       Constantstruggle to convert temperature, distance, and weights from the
metric systemto the imperial system.  Attempting tofigure out if it was cold at
32 degrees Fahrenheit or marvel at how 5 feet 7inches could be considered
tall!!!!!

·       Expectation of having water in restrooms! Only to bedisappointed by the
TOILET PAPER instead. It is a widely accepted practice in many countriesthat we
are simply unable to digest because of what we are used to.

Q4:  Can you write somethingdark and deep?

A4:When it comes to writing, sometimes we want to describe things in a more
powerful andevocative way. One way to achieve this is by usingdark words, which
can adddepth and richness to the text. Dark words canbe used to create a sense
of foreboding, mystery, or danger, and makes writing more memorable and
impactful.

Everyoneelse seems to be saying, "DARK"simply means that the piece has a
negative mood. It certainly is not a badthing. Many pieces labelled as "dark"
contain death, fear, grief, andthe like.

இருண்ட மற்றும் ஆழமான

The woods are lovely, dark and deep: The wood is the metaphor fordeath. ... And
miles to go before I sleep: Metaphorically the “miles to go” islife and the
“sleep” is death.

Here are some examples ofdark words that one can use in writing:

·       ABYSS– adeep, dark, and seemingly endless chasm or void often used to
describe afeeling of hopelessness or despair.

Example: He stared into the abyss ofhis own thoughts, feeling lost and alone.

 ·       CRYPTIC– mysterious or puzzling, often used to describe something that
isdifficult to understand or decipher.

Example: The message was cryptic, leaving her to wonder what it meant.

·       EERIE– strange and unsettling, often used to describe a feeling
ofunease or a spooky atmosphere.

Example: The old house had an eeriequality, making her skin crawl.

·       GRIM –depressing or bleak, often used to describe a hopeless situation
or outlook.

·       Example:The future looked grim, with no sign of improvement in sight.

·       MACABRE– disturbing or gruesome, often used to describe something that
ismorbid or associated with death.

Example: The macabre painting of askull on the wall gave her a sense of unease.

·       Obsidian– dark and shiny, often used to describe a sharp or dangerous
object.

·       OMINOUS– threateningor foreshadowing evil, often used to describe
something that is likely to bringharm or danger.

Example: The dark clouds on the horizonwere an ominous sign of the storm to
come.

·       SINISTER –evil or malevolent, often used to describe a person or
situation that isthreatening or dangerous.

Example: The stranger’s sinister gringave her a sense of unease.

·       SOMBRE–dark and gloomy, often used to describe a sad or melancholic
mood oratmosphere.

·       Example:The sombre music filled the room with a sense of sadness and
loss.

·       STYGIAN– dark and foreboding, often used to describe a place or
situationthat is associated with death or the underworld.

Example: The entrance to the cave was astygian portal, leading to unknown
depths.

Q5:  What are someof the most awesome psychological facts?

A5:

·       The fact that falling in love only takes 4 minutes ispsychologically

heart's.

prove that you have listened.

·       Whenyou have something that you need to do and keep putting off ,force
yourself todo it for five minutes with the option of quitting afterwards .By
then you willusually have re-engaged your brain from procrastinate into
production.

·       Mind is a reflect organ. It reflects everything. So choose yourthoughts
wisely. That's why people cite “Change your thoughts, change your life.”

Selected quora answers generallyinteresting only are included .Still they
need not be 100% correct answers.

Q1      What are some of the greatest examples ofpresence of mind?

A1      PriyaRajput, BE from Jabalpur Engineering College4y

My friend owns a flat in Delhi which he gave on rent.

My friend wasquite fed-up of his tenant as he had not paid his rents for 2
months.

Everytime My friend visted his flat, there was a lockon the door. And he wasn't
receiving calls either. On asking the watchman hecame to know that he visits
the flat once or twice in a week.

Fed-up with all this he came up with an idea.

What he did is ,he locked another lock on the top oftenant lock. Somewhat like
this.

Next, when the tenant visited the flat he immediatelycalled my friend ,he
apologized for the delay and soon my friend received hisrent.

My note- With most tenants, this locking works. Notwith all.

Q2      Can you tell me an example -to never giveup, never fear from anyone

A2       AyushSahani,6h

A long story -

26 years ago, a girl , 17 , gets married. A yearlater she gives birth to a girl
and to another 4 years later.

One day her husband comes home drunk at night, beatsher. Both her daughters get
frightened and then this repeats every other day.

Finally, the daycomes when she gathers all her courage and makes a decision to
leave that manforever for the sake of her daughters and then she never turns
back.

The struggledoesn't end here.

She is 26 years old, she has 2 daughters and thatconcerns her how will she be
able to give them a good future.

But she doesn'tlose hope, she finds a work, she works at 4–5 place whole day,
she manages togive good education to her daughters and now in present, her
elder daughterworks at a decent company in Gurugram and the younger one is in a
medicalcollege.

She didn't lose hope, she didn't fear from anyone, she did her best on her own
and she is still continuing. She sacrificed her life so that herdaughters could
stand on their own feet and will not face what she has faced.

This the story of my mom and her story teaches me tonever give up, never fear
from anyone. Her story motivates me to study and do more to make her proud to
give hereverything she needs

Q3      What is the biggest culture shock you haveever faced?

A3      ShifaMujahid, Software Engineer (2017–present)6y

It was when I went to Iran.

I was at a hotel and having breakfast. I poured sometea and the sugar was
nowhere to be found. So I asked the waiter for it and waswaiting for crushed
sugar that I’ve been using my whole life. Instead, he came back with smallcubes
of sugar like these.

So I took one and put it in my cup of tea and startedstirring to dissolve it.
But unfortunately, my tea got coldand the sugar cube was still intact.

And that’s when someone told me that I was supposed to keep the cubein my mouth
and just sip my tea over it. I never got used to that andwas never given
crushed sugar for my tea even when I asked for it explicitly.

I don’t know if this is something that’s specific toIran but I was shocked when
I found out that sugar goes directly in your mouthand not in your tea.

Loved the visit to Iran btw, it’s a great place.

My note- Whether it is of quality or not- Some restaurant inChennai gives sugar
cubes, but  adding in hotcoffee, it dissolves while coffee is hot. I have used
sugar cubes.

Q3      Are there any awesome facts about thebrain that might not be widely
known?

A3      HanselSapkota, Lived in Nepal (2005–2020)21h

3% of your brainis just water, which means that if you become more than 2%
dehydrated, youcould suffer a loss of attention, cognitive abilities, and
memory.

In fact, you can improve your memory if you choose toeat seafood regularly. The
fatty acids in these foods improve the part of thebrain that deals with memory.

The braincannot feel pain. This allows neurosurgeons to investigate areas
inside the brain whilepatients are awake. They can receive real-time
information from each patient, allowing them to identify specific regions, such
as speech or movement.

***During sleep, the body produces a hormone that preventsyou from getting up
and realizing your dreams. Five minutes after a dream, thebody has already
forgotten half of it and ten minutes later, 90% of the memoryhas disappeared.

My note- ***But certain bits of dream remains inmemory for decades.

The human brain has the capacity to generateapproximately 23 watts of energy
when awake. Of the total blood and oxygenproduced in our body, the brain
receives 20%.

The blood vessels present in the brain have a lengthof almost 160,000
kilometers. In early pregnancy, neurons develop at thealarming rate of 250,000
per minute.

Q3      Have you ever been outsmarted by a kid?

A3      PrabhatMishra, Answered a lot of survey questions!1y

This kid in ourvillage is very chatty and naughty.

He is the son of our milkman. He doesn't study athome, so his father sends him
to my father to study every evening.

My father askedme to keep an eye on him as he read his newspaper one evening.

Kid: Why are you teaching me?

Me: Because I'm told to.

Kid: But you don'tknow anything.

Me: No. I know everything.

Kid: Okay, tell me how far my school is from here.

Me: (said an arbitrary number)

Kid: Mmm. Tell me, how far is Haripur (a neighbouringvillage)?

Me: (said an arbitrary number again)

He asked a lot of questions like this, and I keptgiving random answers, which
he accepted because he didn't know the answershimself.

Kid: But I'm sure you don't know everything. That kidin my school knows
everything.

Me: Who?

He paused for a moment before turning to face me andsaid, "I thoughtyou claimed
you knew everything. You don't know him?"

I was stumped.

I couldn't helpbut smile as I conceded defeat.

Q4      Can you write something dark and deep?

A4      AyushAtreya, A rat race athlete. Jul 18

Once I was watching an interview of shahrukh khan.

The interviewerasked him something about his struggles or how he reached where
he is right now. His reply struck to me sohard that I remember his exact
wording till date.

If I say you that whatever I achieved,  is because of my hard work. I am either
makinga fool of you or of myself. Definitely, I worked hard.

But Much muchmore than my hardwork, these three thing played a major role.
Being at the right place, with right people and at theright time.

Perhaps many won't agree with him. But we all knowthat there are thousands of
people who are much more talented, smart. They arestill roaming in mumbai with
portfolio in thier hand or doing small work inserials.

So the question is, what exactly decides one'ssuccess?

Many successful people will say that they succeedjust on their hard work and
persistence and whatnot. Deep down we all know there is something that is notin
our control.Perhaps that's what people call LUCK.
