Q1      Howdid dinosaurs come into earth?

A1      SilkRoad, AI Expert Aug 4

Dinosaurs werenot always the dominant animals on Earth. In fact, they were
latecomers compared to othergroups of animals that had been around for much
longer.

Dinosaursbelonged to a larger group of reptiles called archosaurs, which also
includedcrocodiles, pterosaurs and birds.

Archosaurs emergedafter the end-Permian extinction about 252 million years ago,
which was the worst massextinction in Earth's history and wiped out about 90%
of all living species.

Archosaurs were not the only survivors of thiscatastrophe. There were
alsomammals, turtles, lizards, amphibians and fish.

But archosaurs had some advantages thathelped them thrive in the new world.
They had an upright posture that allowed them to run faster and moreefficiently
than sprawling reptiles.

They also had a more advanced respiratory system thatenabled them to breathe
better and regulate their body temperature.

Some of them evenhad feathers, which may have served as insulation or display.

The first dinosaurs appeared in the late Triassic period, about 230 million
years ago, in what is now Argentina.

They were small and agile creatures that probably ateinsects and plants. They
coexisted with other archosaurs, such as rauisuchians(large carnivorous
reptiles) and aetosaurs (armored herbivores).

But by the end of the Triassic period, about 201million years ago, most of
these other archosaurs went extinct due to climatechange and volcanic
eruptions. This opened up new ecological niches for thedinosaurs to exploit.

The Jurassic period (201 million to 145 million years ago)was the golden age of
dinosaurs. They diversified into many different forms and sizes, from tiny
feathered theropods to gigantic sauropods.

They spread acrossthe globe asPangaea broke apart into separate continents.
They also faced new challengesand competitors, such as marine reptiles, flying
reptiles and early mammals. But nothing could stop theirdominance.

The Cretaceous period (145 million to 66 millionyears ago) was the last chapter
of the dinosaur story. They continued to evolveand adapt to changing
environments and climates. They developed new featuressuch as horns, crests,
spikes and armor. They also gave rise to the firstbirds, which are considered
living dinosaurs by many scientists.

Aswe all know, their reign came to an abrupt end when a massive asteroid hit
theEarth 66 million years ago, causing global devastation and mass extinction.

Q2      Doesthe pendulum oscillate at the center of the Earth?

A2      SilkRoad,13h

No. Now let's dig in.

You may have heard of Foucault's pendulum, which is a famous experimentthat
shows that the Earthrotates.

Foucault hung a long and heavy pendulum from theceiling of a building and let
it swing freely.

He noticed that the plane of oscillation of the pendulumslowly changed over
time, making a full circle in one day.

This is because the Earth is spinning under the pendulum,so from our point of
view, it looks like the pendulum is changing direction.

But from thependulum's point of view, it's just swinging in the same plane,
while the Earthmoves below it.

This effect is caused by a force called the Coriolis force, which
isproportional to the horizontal velocity of the pendulum and the
angularvelocity of the Earth.

So, whathappens if we move the pendulum to the center of the Earth?

Well, first of all, we have to assume that there is ahole in the Earth that
goes through its center and that we can somehow ignorethe extreme temperature
and pressure there.

Then, we have toconsider two things: gravity and rotation.

At the center ofthe Earth, gravity is zero, because you are equally pulled by
all directions.

Thismeans that there is no restoring force to make the pendulum swing back
andforth.

So, if you give it a push, it will just keep moving in astraight line until it
hits something. No oscillation at all.At the center of the Earth, rotation is
also zero, because you are not moving relative to the Earth's axis.

There is no Coriolis force to make the pendulumchange its plane of oscillation.

Even if you somehow manage to make it swing somehow,it will just keep swinging
in the same plane forever. No rotation at all.

Bottom Line:

No, a pendulumcannot oscillate at the center of the Earth. Itcan only oscillate
when there is some gravity and some rotation to make itinteresting.

Q3      Whatare some useful medical facts?

A3      TinyNair, Cardiologist at PRS Hospital, Trivandrum3y

WrongConcepts that can affect You.

Headache! must be high blood pressure

High BP generally don’t cause headache.

Unlike popular belief, most headaches arenot because of high BP. Rarely a very
severe blood pressure elevationcan cause headache by creating ‘cerebral edema’
or stroke, but uncomplicatedblood pressure generally doesn’t cause headache.

Don’t eat sugar. You will get diabetes

Eating sugars don’t make you diabetic.Diabetes is caused byeither reduction of
insulin secretion or reduction of its effect on the tissues.

A diabetic patient can have undue rise of blood sugarif he takes lotof sugar,
butsugar intake per-se doesn’t cause diabetes.

Eat carefully, avoid junk food. You will not get cholesterol

Eating abalanced diet doesn’t ensure normal cholesterol

60 percent ofblood cholesterol is manufactured by endogenous pathway. So
stopping / avoiding fatin diet doesn’t ensure that you cholesterol will be
normal for sure.

Doctor told me totake one tablet, just to be safe, I just take half.

Low dose medicines are not necessarily safer.

Lower dose of medicine may not have a therapeuticeffect since effect of a drug
is linearly related to its dose. In contrast side effects areoften non-linear.
A person allergic to penicillin can have reaction at even theminuscule dose of
it but such a dose will do him no good.

Pricking painat one point in chest is dangerous

Not at all. Pricking, localised pain, that increase on deepbreathing is
generally not heart related. If you can point your pain toan area less than a
square centimeter, the pain is unlikely to be cardiac

I have a pain inthe lower jaw especially when I walk; may be a bad tooth.

Pain going tothe jaw on exertion is almost always heart pain.

Jaw discomfort on walking; don’t fixup an appointment with the dentists. Go to
a cardiologist.

I am a diabetic;recently I started feeling exhausted.

I am anasthmatic; recently my asthma has worsened.

Both thesesymptoms may point to a cardiac symptom. Silent attacks are seen in
diabetes and chronic asthma, whomay not feel chest pain, but extreme exhaustion
or worsening asthma.

Take care. Thesefacts may be helpful.

Q4      Whatseems hard but is really easy?

A4      VijayaLakshmi,Retired Finance manager at Coal India Limited (A
Maharatna Company)6y

Few years back one of our neighbors, Mr.X, borrowedthe two wheeler from my
husband. there was an urgent job and he has no vehicle.

It was perfectly OK for us. We have to help others in need. Right?

The same person borrowed the two wheeler the next dayalso. He wanted to go to
town to purchase some books. It was not so urgent job.He could have taken an
auto.

But my husband couldn’t say no. He handed over thekeys. This continued forfor
two or three months. After every 3–4 days he would borrow thevehicle and not
even bothered to fill up the petrol tank.

Some times hewould return the vehicle with empty petrol tank.

My husband uses this two wheeler very frequently.

Wheneverthere is some urgent work, the vehicle would not be available for him.

At one point of time the two wheeler became thepublic property of our building.

Now it became very difficult for husband to say ‘no’to any one.

“Why don’t you stop giving keysto others. You are facing problems when going
out” I said.

“If I say noto Mr.A he feels bad because I have given it to Mr.B yesterday”

“but how longit will continue? It should be stopped at one point of time. You
are not being able to use itwhen you need it”

It became very difficult for both of us to say ‘no’to some one.

Then our daughter took the lead.“If you people arehesitant(మీకు మొహమాటంగా
ఉంటే-meekumohamatam ga unte) I will tell” she said.

And she did it!

Two wheeler storyover. Now starts the four wheeler story.

After one year of this incident, one person of ourbuilding wanted our car. We
know that it is not any urgent work.

“Sorry but thereis some problem with the car. I know one taxi person(there were
no OLA or Uberthat time). If you want I will call him. He will come within five
minutes”.said my husband.

The other person knew that it was an indirect way ofsaying ‘no’So neither henor
any person borrowed the car after that.

The matter finished very easily. There were no harshfeeling at all.

So saying ‘no’ iseasy (if it is told in the beginning) even though it seems
hard.

In Telugu there is one idiom “అంత్య నిష్టూరం కంటే ఆది నిష్టూరం
మేలు-antyanishtooram kante aadi nishtooram melu)” which means becoming bad in
thebeginning is better than becoming bad at the end”Helping others is
differentfrom saying ‘yes’ for the sake of maintaining one’s image.
