RespectedSir/s,

SUBJECT: Our Obsession with the Comfort of Television Nostalgia

--

Our craving forcomfort is satiated by enjoying things from the past.

As the digitalage hurtles towards us, one peculiar paradox emerges:

The more weadvance, the more we yearn for yesterday.

Numerouscomedies from the ‘80s, ‘90s, that we have deemed classics are common
feats inmany households.  Despite being the eraof the future, why do we search
for comfort in a time before social mediaexisted?

      It’s a time-traveling obsession thattranscends generations.

Thismay be because of the superior quality of television that the bygone
erassupposedly had. Manycritics and enthusiasts often refer to the late 20th
and early 21st century asthe better era for television.

Although not as refined andvisually appealing as many of
today’s sitcoms and television shows, OLD TV eluded certain nostalgic and
soothing characteristics that are not as prevalent intoday’s comedies and
television shows.

Inother words, the type of humour that was present in old television is
rarelypresent today. As most watch TV as a form of entertainment and time
passes, theenjoyment we receive from it is crucial. The jokes we see now don’t
evencompare to the memorable punch lines and scenes from their old productions.

Contrastingly, maybe it’s not that television was at its peak
before, but instead might be aresult of our ever growing obsession with
reliving the past. Nostalgia andcomfort is refuge from reality, and because we
don’t know what the futureholds, we search for it in the past. In fact the
pandemic is partly to blamefor our infatuation with the past.

This overlooked phenomenon is also a reason for why many of us
nowprefer old movies and shows. Our craving for comfort is satiated by
enjoyingthings from the past.

Even though life isn’tnecessarily better in the past, we dismiss
that just becausefor a few moments we want to be transported to a different
period of time, specifically one free of technology.  Theeasy going nature of
television characters in the past make them appealingbecause their lives aren’t
controlled by social media and technology the way weare.

Eventhough the Tamil cine industry (Kollywood) is small compared to Hollywood
andBollywood, these comedians

VADIVELU,GOUNDAMANI,VIVEK,NAGESH,SENTHIL,MANORAMA,SANTHANAM,RAJENDRAN,JANAKARAJ,SOORI,VENNIRADAIMOORTHY,J.P.CHANDRABABU,THENGAISRINIVASAN

     had their ORIGINAL STYLE.
