Q1 How do I take care of myself when old or elderly?

KR One liner: NONSENSE

Q2 What is the most weird marriage custom of India?

KR WHAT IS SO WEIRD ABOUT? The word shows how young and immature the
Quora partners are. Now as on date of the youth who wrote it, the bride
groom forgets those who groomed him but only takes care of the bride’s
parents. So, taking care of something denotes a good heart. And whether a
marriage custom or not, on principle , is perfect. Had I known the writer
sect, I could have pulled up the weird in their side. Wasting the time of
people by filling pages and also writing elsewhere in a senseless manner
defending their actions: I FELL DOWN BUT NO MUD ON MY MOUCHE STYLE.

Q3 What are some mind-blowing facts that sound unreal but are actually
true?

KR        It is a story that is all; there is no unbelievable but true etc;
one the big Buddha original position of the temple is unknown; and during
Burmese attack in 1800 AD , removal of Buddha and reallocation as SriRangam
-Melkote history was undertaken. Later another temple was built with public
donations and golden Budda was reinstalled; and all chisels etc are just a
story. 2 It is not a big wonder as Thailand has many many gold buddhas in
various shapes and weights throughout the land. Eporul yar vaik ketpinum

Located at the Wat Muang temple in the Ang Thong Province, this statue
stands 92 m (300 ft) high, and is 63 m (210 ft) wide. Construction
commenced in 1990, and was completed in 2008. It is painted gold and made
of concrete. The Buddha is in the seated posture called Maravijaya
Attitude. The statue was built following the order of Phra Kru Vibul
Arjarakhun, the first abbot of Wat Muang temple, in order to commemorate
the King Bhumibol of Thailand. The statue was built using the donated money
from faithful Buddhists, considering as the act of making merit. The budget
spent on the statue was roughly 104,200,000 baht. Not far from the statue
is believed to be the Wat Muang temple. *The exact origins of the temple
are unknown,* as the original temple was destroyed in the 18th century
during the war with the Burmese - they invaded and looted the former Thai
capital of Ayutthaya. The reconstruction of Wat Muang took a long time and
was not completed until 1982, and 8 years later work began on the 'Big
Buddha', which was completed 18 years later. Nearby are more sculptures
which depict the gods, the kings of Thailand and the events of the
Siamo-Burma War. Also around the Buddha is a park where lotus flowers grow.

The statue's formal name, Phra Phuttha Mahanawamintra Sakayamunee Sri
Visejchaicharn , was given by Phra Khru Vibul Arjarakun, and means "the
Lord Buddha of Wiset Chai Chan, Built in Honor of King Bhumibol." The name
is a blend of Sanskrit words: Phra Phuttha (lit. 'Lord Buddha', Sanskrit
varabuddha); Mahanawamintra (Bhumibol's royal title, Sanskrit
mahānavamindra), Sakayamunee (Sanskrit śākyamunī), and Visejchaicharn
(Sanskrit śrīviśeṣajayajāña)

*Q1 How do I take care of myself when old or elderly?*

A1 Venkateswara Swamy Swarna, Former Scientist, Metallurgist, Quality
/ NDT Manager at Department of Atomic Energy, India (1967–2008)18h

I am now nearly 76, old by Indian standards.

But, I am able to take care of my personal needs like taking bath, using
the toilet, changing myself, going out for a haircut, go to the bank if
needed. I manage my affairs online.

In the same apartment complex where I live, there is another man who is 100
years old. He is completely bed ridden for the last few years and he is
taken care by his 80 year old wife and a middle aged male attendant who
stays with them.

We have one young female attendant living with us to take care of my wife
who is recovering from a major health issue from 2022.

So, either manage yourself or engage someone who can. If both the options
are ruled out, you may consider moving to an old age home.

*Q2 What is the most weird marriage custom of India?*

A2 Ambika Sukumaran, Lives in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, India
(1998–present)Updated 5y

I can't say that this as a weird custom, but it is a unique custom followed
in a village in Tamilnadu.

Mudivaithanendal is a village in Thoothukudi district of Tamilnadu. The
marriage custom is very unique in this village. Here the bride need not go
to the groom's house after wedding. Rather it is the groom who comes to the
bride's house.( Imagine the groom weeping for leaving his parents behind!)

Also in this village the girls are given houses by their parents. So it is
the daughter who takes care of her parents till their last breath.

The point to be noticed here is the people will be longing to have a girl
child.

Unlike others the parents won't be saying 'Anyway my daughter will go to
another house after marriage, it is only my son who is going to look after
me!'. These dialogues seem a little weird to the people of
Mudivaithanendal. Their dialogue will be a total opposite to the above one.

Don't you find this custom unique or may be, according to you, ‘weird’?And
I feel so happy to be a native of this village.

In 1954, the government of Thailand decided to build a highway in Bangkok
through a location where an old temple stood. They purchased the rights to
the temple, and agreed to let the local monks move a centuries-old clay
Buddha to another location.

The clay Buddha was massive. It stood more than ten feet tall, and its
belly was more than six feet in circumference. So the monks arranged for a
crane to safely move the Buddha from the old temple to a new home.

But when the crane began to pick up and move the clay Buddha, it was clear
they’d miscalculated its fragility. The idol was cracking. Immediately, the
temple’s abbot screamed for it to be lowered to the ground and covered with
tarps to protect it from incessant rains.

Later that night, the abbot couldn’t sleep. So he returned to the clay
Buddha with a flashlight to inspect the damage to the sacred idol. As he
peered through one of the cracks, he noticed something strange deep beneath
the surface.

He returned to his monastery, found a hammer and chisel, and chipped away a
small section around the crack. He was puzzled by what he saw. So he
returned to the monastery, awoke the other monks, and asked for their help.

He told them each to bring a flashlight, hammer, and chisel. Together, they
returned to the clay Buddha and, synchronously, they began to chip away at
the enormous idol they’d been protecting for so many years.

When they finished their work the next morning, they stood back and gazed
at what, together, they’d uncovered: their clay buddha wasn’t clay at all.
Instead, it was a solid gold Buddha

— the largest known solid gold statue in the history of the world.

In today’s dollars, just the price of the gold for this 5,500 kilogram
solid gold Buddha is more than one quarter of a billion dollars!

*Q4 Is there a very engrossing context of mother Ganga's egotism in
the pages of Valmiki Ramayana? *

A4 SURESH BHARNANGA,10h

Yes, there's a very engrossing context of mother Ganga's egotism in the
pages of Valmiki Ramayana. When Lord Shiva decided to sustain Mother Ganga
on his head, she out of her arrogance thought that she would whisk away
Lord Shiva by her unendurable streams.

Valmiki Ramayana, Bala Kanda

Afterwards, she who is reverenced by all the worlds and who is the elder
daughter of Himavanta, that Ganga assuming an unendurable form and an
insupportable rapidity, they say, then plunged from the sky onto the
auspicious head of Shiva. She who is an extremely unendurable river that
goddess Ganga even speculated saying to herself, 'let me enter netherworld,
indeed whisking Shiva with my streams.

But Lord Shiva, who is all-knowing, all seeing or omniscient, knew about
Goddess Ganga's arrogance. In order to destroy her egotism and false pride,
He thought to pent her up in the tufts of his head-hair. And as a result,
When Goddess Ganga flowed down into the huge curls of matted hair-tufts on
the holy head of God Shiva, she became a detainee in them.

Valmiki Ramayana, Bala Kanda

And oh, Rama, she that holy River Ganga swooped down into the cavernous
curls of matted hair-tufts on the holy head of God Shiva, and she became a
detainee in them. Though she strove hard in one way or another to reach the
earth that Ganga is rendered incapable, as she could not gain access for an
outlet from any edge of the coils of matted hair-tufts of Shiva, hence she
is held there in durance vile.

Even after making several attempts to reach the earth, Goddess Ganga could
not gain any access to escape. She was completely imprisoned there.
However, when Bhageeratha again firmed up in a marvellous penance in the
matter of her descent to earth, Lord Shiva released Goddess Ganga from his
matted hair-tufts, aiming at Bindu Lake in Himalayas.

So this is how Lord Shiva destroyed Goddess Ganga's egotism. He is Hara,
who always take away or destroy miseries, ego, and ignorance of his beloved
devotees.

*Q5 What’s the worst candidate who came to an*

* interview?*

A5 Richard Stubbings, Former Retired Bookseller and

IT Consultant Updated 4y

Many years ago my partner, David, was a shop manager and was advertising
for a full time shop worker. One morning this kid came into the shop in
dirty jeans and t-shirt and asked about the job. David gave him an
application form and told him to complete it, which the kid did straight
away. David said that he was starting interviews that afternoon and
arranged a time.

The interview time approached. The kid turned up on time. Still wearing the
same clothes, now wet (it had been raining) and now smelling of poor body
odour. Not a great beginning.

First question, what have you done? Answer “I’m just out of Borstal….” For
those who do not know, this is a prison for youth offenders. He was in
prison for multiple counts of shoplifting!

Why didn’t you change and look smart for the Interview? - Because I live
several miles away and I did not have the bus fare to get home and back. So
I hung around in town all day.

David hired him. HR was very very worried.

Years later the kid was still employed, now assistant manager. He turned
out to be one of the most reliable and honest employee David had ever
hired. One day he admitted that he turned to shoplifting when he was
younger to get caught and taken away from his abusive father. He was safer
in prison than at home.

So he was the worst looking candidate, with the worst CV, but the best
employee
