Q1        What is the funniest joke you've beentold that you still think about
to this day?
A1         Richard Garde,8h
My father’sfavourite Irish joke:

PatrickO'Rourke was lyin’ on his death bed and sitting next to him was his
childhoodbest friend, Michael Murphy.

Michaellooks down at Patrick and asks, “Ough, Patty, is there anything I can
do forya, ‘t ease your passin’?”

Patricklooks up at his best friend and says, “Aye, Michael, it would be grand
if youspoke to me dear mother in Ireland and tell her how I died.”
Michaelanswers, “Tink nothin’ of it, of course I will.”
Patrickthinks a minute and continues, “And over there in me dresser, in the
topdrawer, way in the back, is a bottle of 30-year-old Irish whiskey that
I’vebeen savin’. Would you be a good lad and pore it over me grave after I’m
gone?”
Michaelpauses a moment and then responds, “I’ll do that for ya, Patty – But
would youmind if I passed it through me kidneys first?”
Q2         What is the most convincing case ofreincarnation in history?

A2          Ghost Girl, Feb 12

Withoutmentioning the most famous case, that of Dorothy Eady who claimed to
have livedin ancient Egypt, there is the case of Shanti Devi, an Indian woman
born in1926 in Delhi, India, and died in 1987.

Already atthe age of four, she began to speak of her past life, her husband,
and her twochildren; she had lived with her husband in the city of Mathura
where he owneda clothing shop, that her past name was Chaudine and she had died
giving birthto her third child.

Her parentslet her be, convinced that these were only the fantasies of a child.

It was onlywhen her statements about her past life became more persistent that
they beganto worry. Shanti often spoke of the foods she cooked for her family,
thestreets of Mathura, etc. The older she grew, the more Shanti told stories
ofher past life, insisting with her parents to take her to Mathura.

One day herteacher, intrigued, sent a letter to the address of her supposed
husbanddescribing the situation and, to his surprise, the man confirmed
everything, from the wife's name to that of the children, the address and his
relatives;everything said by Shanti corresponded, even the color of the house.
Theteacher asked Shanti's "husband," Pandit Kedarnath Chaube, to come toDelhi
to meet her but the man, fearing a scam, sent his cousin asking topresent
himself with his name. When the man arrived at the station, Shanti wasnot
deceived, recognizing her husband's cousin immediately and revealingfurther
details of the house, her children, and her "husband."

Shocked, theman returned home and told everything to the cousin, convincing him
to go toDelhi to meet her but Pandit was not yet fully convinced, so when the
cousinknocked on Shanti's house door, he introduced him as his brother. This
timetoo, the girl was not deceived and pointed out Pandit as her husband in the
otherlife.

At dinner, she had Pandit's favorite dishes prepared and as proof of her
reincarnation, she described the house and the place where she had hidden her
personal jewelsand a sum of money.

When Panditand his cousin took the train to Mathura, the girl wanted to go with
them butwas not allowed. Later, she was invited by Pandit to visit his house
with herparents and the girl made the journey without getting lost, proving she
knewthose streets well although it was the first time she visited that city.

Uponarrival, she recognized all her "neighbors" by name, although she hadnever
seen them before, describing their houses and children, scolding Panditbecause
he had painted the house a different color, leaving the man once
againastonished.

During themeeting, she recognized her children, including the one she had never
known, telling things that only Pandit's deceased wife could know and describing
thetransition period between one body and another.

When it wastime to say goodbye, she cried at the thought of having to leave her
childrenagain but always stayed in touch with her previous family.

The girlbecame very famous in India to the point of being introduced to Mahatma
Gandhiand many members of the Indian Parliament. In 1935, a special commission
ofinquiry was established on her case, concluding that Shanti Devi was a
truecase of reincarnation.

This is themost documented past life case in history, not only for the
investigations thathave been done but because the subject did not describe a
life in distantepochs but the one immediately preceding, providing at the same
timetestimonies and direct evidence.

Q4         What are some interesting lesser knowntales from Hindu religion?
A4          Seema Bharti, Author of Mahabharat'sStories4h

Sage Brighuhad a lovely wife Puloma. She was an epitome of beauty. Both of them
were onway to parenthood. In Brighu’s absence, the evil Puloman came to their
humbledwelling. Puloma served the guest well”.

Unfortunatelyfor Brighu’s wife, the demon was filled with lust on seeing her
beauty. In thepresence of purifying Fire, Puloma had to confess, that she was
the same woman, who was betrothed to him, before she married Brighu. On seeing
Puloman’s evilways, her father had changed his decision and given her hand to
the ascetic.

“Since, I was to marry this beautiful womanand Brighu deceitfully took her
away, she is mine!”, justified the demon. Hecarried Puloma forcibly with him.

With theforce and violence around her, the son in her womb, began to writhe in
pain andso did she. Puloman almost died in grief, leaving them behind. She was
not thesame woman he was once betrothed to but someone’s wife and mother. In
spite ofthe odds, the sage’s strong son Chyavana came to life.

Brighu’sheart burst with anger. His wife and son had suffered because of
Fire’srighteousness. In future, it shall be a mute witness to both good and
evil inthis world, he fumed. It shall be the mouth to the food served to the
departedancestors, and at the same time mute witness to lies.

Chyavana, had a son Pramati. Pramati had two sons Ruru and Shounaka. Pramadvara,
was thedaughter of great beauty Menaka and King Vishvavasm who had refused to
owe upthe child. Sage Sthulakesha’ mesermised by the girl's angelic innocence,
hadadopted her as his own and named him Pramadvara.

Ruru, happened to see the divine beauty and fell in love with her. Pramati and
SageSthulakesha, anointed a day for their marriage. But one day, the maiden out
inthe forest with her friends, accidentally placed her foot on a sleeping Naga
onthe ground. She was hit hard with the Naga’s venom and anger that she
nearlydied.

In agonyRuru promised to give up, half of his life working for the welfare of
the lessprivileged.

MiraculouslyPramadvara came back to life. Shortly afterwards both were married.
HenceforthRuru’s heart hardened towards all Nagas. He killed them mindlessly.

After awhile his conscience commanded him to stop the mindless killing since
all werenot evil, like the non poisonous snake dunduba. It was a sin. Moreover
he was ateacher and not a warrior. A teacher was someone who was non violent,
truthful, forgiving, peaceful and learned. In the past a lot of nagas were
sacrificed byJanemajaya. Later, Astika, who was a scholar, brave and strong had
came totheir rescue.
