SANATANA DHARMA K RAJARAM IRS 28424 PART 5 CONTD
Dharmabindu Varna Dharmas : PART2
I Brahmana Dharma:
A Brahmanyaam Brahmana ajnaatah samskruto Brahmano bhavet, Evam
Kshatriya vitshudra ajneyaasvebhyah svayonija/
(Devala Maharshi defines a Brahmana born of the same parentage just as of
Kshatriya, Vaishya and others, as Brahmana, Kshatriya and Vysya)
The nomenclature definitions in dharma sutra first affirms that one who is
born to a parent of a varna belongs to that Varna; it does not mean, you
are that varna forever only by birth as being claimed by a few. Because the
same Dharma also said by birth all are only shudra and by various conducts
and Gunas ,varnas are determined. Even B G said the same thing. One is
registered as that varna, but one has to retain that varna by actions and
deeds.
B Adhyapanam cha adhyayanam yajanam yaajanam tathaa, Danam prati
grihaschaiva shat karmaanyagrajanmah/
(Manu Smriti prescribes Veda adhyayana (1) and Adyaapanam (2) or learning
and teaching of Scriptures, performing (3 yagnam) and letting to perform
yajnas (4 yagnanam) , and giving (5 prati Dhaanam and ) and accepting
Charities (6 dhanam) are the six duties of Brahmanas.)
That means BY BIRTH GETS SHUT AFTER SOME YEARS IF 6 QUALITIES ARE NOT
WITH THAT BORN IN THE VARANA BRAHMIN.
C Parashara Smriti details another set of Shat-karmas by Brahmanas:
Shat karma bhirao nityam Devaathithi pujakah, huta sheshaantu bhungnaano
brahmano naava seedati/ Sandhyaa snaanam japo homo Devarchanam pujanam,
Vishva Devaaththi yaamcha shatkarmaani dine dine/
(Parashara Smriti emphasises observing Six Duties every day *besides 7 *Deva
Puja, 8 Atithi seva, 9 eating Yagjna sesha or the leftover of Yagjnas (
UNCHAVRITHI ONLY) ; the six daily duties are 1 Sandyha vandana thrice a
day, 2 Snaana, 3 Japa,4 homa, 5 Devarchana, and 6 Atithi Puja)
Prasara smrithi made brahmin varna life tough; NOT JUST MANU 6 duties;
besides, 6duties in addition and daily must be done and must eat only what
is left out in yagna or uncha vrithi.
D Naasikyaadathavaalasya agneenaa dhaatumicchati, Yajeta vaana yagjnena
sayaati narakaan bahun, Tasmaatsarva prayatena Brahmanohi visheshitah
Aaadhaayaagninvishuddhaatamaa yajet paramesh varam/
(Maadhaveeya details that those Brahmanas either due to negative mentality
of Nastikata or non-significance of the Supreme, or due to sheer lethargy,
if the prescribed *Agni Karyas are not performed*, then they are destined
to suffer in narakas and hence the caution that Agni based Satkaryas be
observed with clean conscience and purity of thoughts!)
Thus non performance not only make one out of Varna, but also induce one to
Narakam.
E Shroutam karmanachet cchaktah smaartam karma samacharet, Tatraapua
shaktah karane kurya-adaachara-mantatah/
(Garga Rishi exempts Shrauta karma and if that is not possible, smartha
karma be performed and even if that is not possible then ‗adaachara‘ or
achaaram as conduct (andanar enbor aravor) Good Behaviour be observed
definitely)
Be a Karma Yogi atleast B G
F Pratigraha adhyaapana yaajanaanaam pratigraham shresh -thatamam
vadanti, Pratigrahasshudhyati Japya homau yaajyastu paapaat punaanti
vedaah/
(Yama Dharma Raja prescribes three major duties of 1 Prati graha, 2 Adhyapana
and 3 Yaajana: adyapanam means one has to teach Vedas; Yajana is doing
yagnam for others; and Prati graha or acceptance of alms purifies) viz out
of A, 6 duties, other than one doing for self, must teach, do yagnam for
the society and accepts dhanam.
G Tapo viseshair vidhaih vrataischa vidhichodidaih, vedahkrisnobhi
gantavyah sa rahasyo dvijanmanaa/Yah svashakhaam parityajya paara -kyam
adhigacchati, Sa shudrra vadbahish -kaaryah sarvasmaat dvijakarmanah/
Vedameva sadaabhyasyet tapas tapsyan dijottamah,Vedaabhaasohi viprasyatapah
paramochyate/
(A dvija or twice born-and this is applicable to Brahmana-Kshatriya-
Vaishyas- is required to learn such Tapo Vrata based ‗rahasyas ‘( almost
all puraanas teach us) or hidden meanings of Vedas by the practice of
meditations and vratams. Whosoever follows, another Veda Shaka, too becomes
ineligible for dvija karmas. (In short even within Vedas , shaka group must
follow only that shaka; that is why rig vedi may refuse to perform Yajur
vedi karmas and so on ) Every dvija is required to pursue one‘s own
heritage (shortened meaning of B G is swa dharma viz better to follow one
shaka than all others) and pursue that very Dharma of Adhyayana, Tapas and
related virtues vigorously as the golden duty)
H Vedasveekaranam purvam vicharobhyasanam japah, Taddaanam chaiva
shishyebhyaha Vedaabhyaaso panchadhaa/
‘(Daksha Prajapati defined the five duties of a Brahmana as Acceptance of a
Veda, Veda Vicharana or Introspection of that specific Veda, Abhyasa or
repetitive memory, Japa or concentrated meditation and Veda Dhana to one ‘s
own followers are the Five Principles of Vedaabhyaasa!)
WHAT IS VEDA ABYASAM IS DEFINED BY DHKSHA Prajapati.
J Satatam pratarutthaaya danta dhaavana purvakam, Snaatvaa hutvaacha
shishyebhyah kuryaadhyaapanam narah/
(Yama details the Five Principles a Brahmana range from morning ablutions,
snaana, ‗homaadi pratahkala vidhis ‘including homa vidhi and Vedaabhyaasa
to disciples!)
Again Vedaabhyaasa is enumerated.
K Acharya putrah Shushrushuh Jnaanadodharmikah Shuvhih, Aaptah
Shaktah Ardhadah Saadhuhs vodhya apaadasha darmatah/ / Vriddhaou cha Maata
Pitarao saadhvi bharyaasutah shishuh, Apyakarya shatam kritwaa Bhartavyaa
Maurabraveet/
(Manu Smriti also states that *one could assess* the character and conduct,
the physical and internal cleanliness and the depth of knowledge of
companions like Acharya Putras, shishyas, friends and such others. Another
principle of Manu underlines the golden principle of up keeping and
maintaining the elderly parents, devoted wife and young children.)
L Yet another principle of Brahmana Dharma as enunciated by Prajapati
is:
Yah svadharma parityagi paashandi tyuchyate budhaih, Tatsanga kritthat
samasyaattaavu bhavapi paapinou, yetu saamaanya bhavena Manyante
purushottamam, tevai paashan -dino jneyaah narakaarha naraadhamah/
(Those who desert their Swadharma or the Principles of one‘s own family
background are worthy of desertion of the Vamsha. Such persons who might be
very knowledgeable still become irresponsible and are called sinners;
further whosoever esteem Purushottama as normal and none too great are fit
cases of abode in hell after their deaths!)
Family background does not mean bending the rules; shaka followed
strictly as per shaka is family background; swadharma is that of shaka
followers. Thus, as Varna dharma is concerned, unless we follow the
minimum rules, we are away from the varna dharma; and such dharma becomes
impracticable. By bending rules, we are violating the Varna dharma. NB: If
the Govt neglects the Brahmin not as Varna but only as JATI, (vaguppu
vadham) , then why we cannot say it is not applicable to varna and we are
not JATI? But we ourselves write only as JATI which is now killing the
varna bhedam.) K RAJARAM IRS 28424
