Q1             What are examples of presence of mind during interview?

A1             DipeshKarki, Co-founder & CTO @ lendenclub.com6y

Despite having an excellent GPA and a good portfolio,Prashant was Mr. Reject
during our in-campus recruitment days. If a recruiterintended to hire 10 from
the 11 finalists, he would end up becoming the onlyreject. Call it frustration
or acceptance, he started becoming casual about therejections now.

One day this company (probably Fluor Daniel) came forrecruitment. Prashant made
it to the final interview with HR. As usual,Prashant was prepared to get
rejected hence was just participating in theQ&A. HR then asked,

HR: Ok Prashant, tell me about a moment that you regretoften.

Me: Well sir it was during my 7th semester math exam when Iwas rushing to
finish the last 2 questions, and a friend behind me was lookingdesperately for
an answer to a question that would help him pass. I, on theother hand just
wanted to finish all my answers even though I had alreadywritten enough to
score A+. Despite his multiple requests to show the answer, Iwent on writing
mine, ignoring his plea. The final bell rang, I did my paperand left the hall.
20 days later, Results were out, I scored 93/100 and myfriend failed because I
didn't help him. I will regret that moment forever.

(Interviewer must havejudged my arrogance and guilt yet continued asking more
questions.)

10 mins later,

HR: So Prashant, how creative are you?

Me: You just saw my creativity 10 mins ago.

Q2             Why do Indians hesitate to sleep in the evening from 4-7pm?

A2             BhuvanaRameshwar, Lives in India (1980–present)Updated Feb 22

We were strictly trained by our parents not to sleep in thetime say 4pm to 7pm.
Even our relatives, hostel mates, neighbours and friendslook down on us if we
sleep in these pre and post Sunset hours . In fact athome we are asked to
freshen up and have our evening hot milk or coffee withsnacks, this is followed
in hostels too.

Our grandmothers advised us saying this is the time Lakshmi(goddess of wealth)
visits our house. That is why we should be pleasant andfresh enough to receive
Her. Otherwise she sees a sleepy, lazy house and walksaway leaving the house to
poverty, debt and problems. In our house by 4pm themaid even swept the front
entrance, courtyard, sprinkled water and drew a kolam(rangoli) as a welcome to
our goddess, meanwhile our mother lit the lamp in thepooja room promptly. We
also switched on our main entrance, hall, kitchen lightat 6pm promptly.

Scientifically if we sleep at odd hours we miss out minglingwith others, feel
lazy to have tea and snacks and sulk at dinner time beingstill sleepy. We also
become fresh like an owl later at night when the wholeworld sleeps.

Only babies, sick people, very old people, and those doing night duty cansleep
at odd hours. Others no. If sleepy, go wash your face and drink coffee.

Q3             What are some of the most mind-blowing facts?

Do you know The World’s First Vegetarian City???

First legally vegetarian city on Earth! Here meat and eggsare illegal, as well
as any activity involving their production.

It is the Indian cityof Palitana.

It located in the Bhavnagar district of Gujarat in India, itis counted among
the purest and most revered destination for those who followJainism. In fact,
it is absolutely illegal to kill animals for eating purposeshere, and selling
eggs or meat is a strict no.

Palitana, about 50 km southwest of Bhavnagar, holds therecord of being the only
mountain with more than 900 temples in the wholeworld! For Jains, all the
Palitana temples, along with the mountain areabsolutely important from a
religious viewpoint. It is also the most sacredpilgrimage centres or (tirtha)
for the Jain community and is considered theworld's largest temple complex.

The reason

Back in the year 2014, the government put a ban on animalslaughter in the
region and since then, not a single animal has been killedhere. The ban was
implemented when around 200 Jain monks protested by going ona hunger strike to
show the government that they'd prefer to die than lettinganimal slaughter and
consumption allowed in the area.

The monks demanded to get all the 250 butcher shops to beshut down and the
state government was forced to do so. Thus, the city wasdeclared a meat-free
zone. However, dairy products are still allowed and peoplein the city consume
milk, ghee, butter, etc.

This is because Palitana is home to hundreds of temples, andis also a major
pilgrim centre for Jains. It is said that their saviour,Adinatha, once walked
its hills and the place has been important for thefollowers since then. There
is no definite figure about how many people followJainism but the number ranges
between four to five million across the world!

Q4             Why does aluminium not corrode in the presence of oxygenand
water?

A4             RebeccaWilliams, Aviation lover. May 21

Aluminium's resistance to corrosion is a fascinatinginterplay of chemistry and
physics, and it's all thanks to the metal's affinityfor oxygen. When aluminum
is exposed to the atmosphere, it reacts rapidly withoxygen to form a thin,
protective layer of aluminum oxide on its surface. This oxide layer
isincredibly stable and effectively seals the underlying metal from
furtherexposure to the environment, including water and additional oxygen.

This process, known as passivation, gives aluminum excellentcorrosion
resistance. The oxide layer is just a few nanometers thick, but it'ssufficient
to prevent the metal from continuing to react with environmentalelements. It's
a bit like an invisible shield that protects the metal from theusual rusting
process that affects other metals, such as iron.

The oxide layer formed is also quite unique because itadheres strongly to the
aluminum surface and doesn't flake or chip away easily. This means that even if
the metal is scratched, the oxide layer can quickly reformand heal the exposed
surface, maintaining its protective barrier.

The oxide layer is an electrical insulator, which furtherhelps prevent
corrosion caused by electrochemical reactions. It's important tonote that while
aluminum doesn't corrode easily, it's not entirely immune tocorrosion. Under
certain conditions, especially in the presence of certainchemicals or in
extreme pH conditions, the protective oxide layer can becompromised, leading to
corrosion.

Q5             Is doing a friendship with police officers in India safefor that
person who is from a different profession?

A5             AnilRoongta, Former Member at Consumer Court22h

I will narrate one story. Many years back, a kidney transplantracket was
unearthed in a city. A private hospital was raided and couple ofdoctors and
support staff was arrested.

There was this doctor who used to visit that hospital as aconsultant. He was an
anaesthetist. One support staff named him also. Thatdoctor came to know about
it. He wasn’t involved in that racket. His father whowas a senior professor in
the university contacted one of his friends who wasan addl SP and asked him for
help. That police officer came to that doctor’s house and told him “Comewith me
to the police station. Your statement will be recorded and then you arefree.”

That doctor went withhim. When they reached and went inside the station,
thatadditional  SP told the SHO “I havebrought him. You can arrest him and
interrogate him.” That young doctor wasstunned but was helpless.

However, after a week or so the court granted him bail. Andlater he
wasexonerated but his reputation as a doctor was ruined.
