South Wayanad) had carried out a major eviction in 1992 in Mundakai, the place where the landslide took place in Wayanad day before yesterday. The encroachments, then, were in their early stages. We evicted encroachers from about 37 acres. *At that time a local MLA Ramachandran interfered and urged encroachers to attack the Forest team.* They were around 400 in numbers and we were only around 80.They torched six of our jeeps and one motor cycle, and started throwing stones and moved menacingly towards us. We had to fire in the air to disperse the crowd. About 6 of our staff got injured in the stone throwing.
