The Sordid Saga Of Vinesh Phogat

Having organised many a Boxing Competition over my 33 years in the Army &
being from a Gorkha Regiment, which has Boxing as it's prime sport I offer
my two bits with some authority.

No One Can Force An Adult Boxer or Wrestler Or Any Athlete In Contact
Game Competitions, To Participate Against Their Will. In Fact Athletes Have
To (Mandatory) Sign A Willingness Certificate Under Their Free Will To
Fight In A Particular Weight.

The wrestler is squarely to blame as it is not easy to loose weight and
yet maintain the required strength & stamina to fight an opponent in the
same natural weight, therefore the decision to do so is FIRST & ONLY left
to the wrestler / boxer to decide, though the physicians, coaches who
advice / allow such actions are only abettors & criminals because such
sudden loss of weight followed by intense activity can have long effects on
the body.

Competitive Wrestling is not a child's play that a wrestler can turn
around and blame others for their rejections or losses.

Vinesh Phogat's original natural weight is 57kgs.
Every time she wrestles she reduces it to 53kgs category.

This is Actually objectionable on two counts-
   a) medically, for the athlete's health, unless an athlete can show the
same weight in all rounds, meaning the body is accepting the change.(many
gain weight to fight in a higher category too).
   b) fairness to the competitor- miss matching weight categories can
create unfair advantages /disadvantages in a match that's supposed to be
between evenly matched athletes.

This time Vinesh Phogat came further down to a 50 kg category in the hope
to win a medal, i.e a whole 7 kgs below her natural weight all within a few
months & days!

Obviously she, a 57kg reduced to 53kgs in months & then to 50kgs in days
had to be rejected for her own safety, even of by a 'few grams'. She would
have been far weaker than a natural 50 kg wrestling competitor OR would
have been unfair to the competitor.

The fact is Vinesh Phogat, despite her darling status to us, was
cheating by fighting underweight competitors, and we were as a nation
complicit in letting her do so instead of grooming & giving others a
chance.

The rest of the debates, news etc are political & unscientific
rhetoric.

We grow in truth, in lies & favoritism we lose even our moralities.

All these 'warring' politicians should be made to miss a few meals and
walk up & down, to & fro to the Parliament before they gaslight any issues
into absurdity.
