What really counts is that, are we able to comfortably live? Take any four commodities, say, rice, cooking oil, potato and petrol. Let us keep monthly consumption of these for one family   as 10 kg or 10 litres . Find the the total expense for a family on these four items in 2011 and in 2024 as per your price data. Find the per capita income in India from govt published statistics for these two years .Find the ratio of expense to that income during the same two years.
Which ever shows a lower expense to income ratio, is the year that is considered as more prosperous!
Why dont you do this simple exercise and enlighten us?!
    Thank you!  Sridharan.
My grand mother used to bemoan that in 1917, my grand father used to buy 8kgs of rice per rupee but the price in 1960 have skyrocketted to 3Rs per Kg! She could not understand that in 1917, my GF was earning only Rs 30 per month but in 1960 his pay was Rs 750 per month!
