Save this for living man exists no real gain.

Give to the poor and live with praise. There is no greater profit to man

Subject: [iyer123] iINCREDIBLE .FACTS ABOUT DrAPJ ABDUL KALAM
To: Iyer <[email protected]>

*Respected Sir/s,*

*SUBJECT**:* INCREDIBLE FACTS ABOUT Dr.APJ ABDUL KALAM

*Incredible and shocking facts*

*DD Pothigai aired an interview with Mr. P M Nair, (a retired IAS officer,
who was the **secretary **to Dr. Abdul Kalam sir when he was the
President.)*

*He summarized the things in an emotional voice**.*

*Mr. Nair has written a book called *"Kalam Effect"*.*

*1. **Dr. Kalam used to receive expensive gifts whenever he went abroad,
because many countries used to give gifts to visiting heads of state.*

*Refusing the gift would be an insult to the nation and a disgrace to
India.*

*So, he received them and on his return, Dr. Kalam asked him to take
photographs of the gifts, then catalogue them and hand them over to the
archives.*

*After that, he never saw them. He did not even take a pencil from the
gifts he received when he came out of Rashtrapati Bhavan.*

*2. The month of Ramadan came in July-August 2002, when Dr. Kalam took
charge.*

*It was a common practice for the President to host an **Iftar** party.*

*Dr. Kalam asked Mr. Nair why he should host a party for people who already
had good food, and to find out how much it would cost.*

*Mr. Nair estimated the cost at around Rs**. 22 lakhs.*

*Dr. Kalam asked him to provide the amount in the form of food, clothes and
blankets to some selected orphanages.*

*The selection of the orphanages was left to a committee at Rashtrapati
Bhavan, in which Dr. Kalam had no part.*

*After the selection, Dr. Kalam asked Mr. Nair to come to his room and gave
him a cheque for Rs. 1 lakh.*

*He said that he would give some amount from his personal savings and not
to tell anyone about this.*

*Mr. Nair was very shocked and said, “Sir, I will go out and tell everyone.
People should know that here a man not only donates what he has to spend,
but also gives his own money.”*

*Although Dr. Kalam was a devout Muslim, he did not host Iftar parties
during his years as President.*

*3. Dr. Kalam did not like “Yes sir” type of people.*

*Once the Chief Justice of India came and at one point Dr. Kalam expressed
his opinion and asked Mr. Nair.*

*“Do you agree?” Mr. Nair said, “*

*No sir, I do not agree with your opinion”.*

*The Chief Justice was shocked and could not believe his ears.*

*It was impossible for a civil servant to disagree with the President, that
too openly.*

*Mr. Nair told him that the President would question him later why he did
not agree and that if the reason was 99% logical, he would change his mind.*

*4. Dr. Kalam invited 50 of his relatives to Delhi, all of whom stayed at
Rashtrapati Bhavan.*

*He arranged a bus that he himself paid for to take them to the village.*

*No official car was used.** All their food and lodging was calculated as
per Dr. Kalam's instructions and the bill came to Rs 2 lakh which he paid.*

*No one in the history of this country has done that.*

*Now, wait for the climax, Dr. Kalam's elder brother stayed with him in his
room for a whole week because Dr. Kalam wanted his brother to stay with
him.*

*When they left, Dr. Kalam wanted to pay rent for that room too.*

*Imagine the President of a country paying rent for the room he is staying
in.*

*The staff, who thought that honesty was too much to handle, did not accept
this in any way!!!.*

*5. When Kalam sir was about to leave Rashtrapati Bhavan after his term was
over, every staff member went to meet him and pay their respects.*

*Mr. Nair went to see him alone as his wife was bedridden due to a broken
leg. Dr. Kalam asked why his wife had not come. He replied that she was
bedridden due to an accident.*

*The next day, Mr. Nair saw a lot of policemen around his house and asked
what had happened.*

*They said that the President of India was coming to see him. He came and
met his wife and chatted for a while.*

*Mr. Nair said that the President of any country would not visit the house
of a government servant, that too on such a simple pretext.*

*Abdul Kalam's younger brother runs an umbrella repair shop.*

**The property left by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has been valued.**

*He owned*

*6 pairs of trousers (2 DRDO uniforms)*

*4 shirts*

*Regards*
