கடன்என்ப நல்லவை எல்லாம் கடன்அறிந்து சான்றாண்மை மேற்கொள் பவர்க்கு. (௯௱௮௰௧ - 981) kaṭaṉeṉpa nallavai ellām kaṭaṉaṟintu cāṉṟāṇmai mēṟkoḷ pavarkku. (Transliteration) All virtues are said to be natural to those Who acquire character as a duty. குணநலம் சான்றோர் நலனே பிறநலம் எந்நலத்து உள்ளதூஉம் அன்று. (௯௱௮௰௨ - 982) kuṇanalam cāṉṟōr nalaṉē piṟanalam ennalattu uḷḷatū'um aṉṟu. (Transliteration) No other goodness than good character Is deemed good by the noble. அன்புநாண் ஒப்புரவு கண்ணோட்டம் வாய்மையொடு ஐந்துசால் ஊன்றிய தூண். (௯௱௮௰௩ - 983) aṉpunāṇ oppuravu kaṇṇōṭṭam vāymaiyoṭu aintucāl ūṉṟiya tūṇ. (Transliteration) The pillars of excellence are five: Love, modesty, altruism, compassion, truthfulness. கொல்லா நலத்தது நோன்மை பிறர்தீமை சொல்லா நலத்தது சால்பு. (௯௱௮௰௪ - 984) kollā nalattatu nōṉmai piṟartīmai collā nalattatu cālpu. (Transliteration) The characteristic of penance is non-killing, And that of goodness not speaking others’ faults. ஆற்றுவார் ஆற்றல் பணிதல் அதுசான்றோர் மாற்றாரை மாற்றும் படை. (௯௱௮௰௫ - 985) āṟṟuvār āṟṟal paṇital atucāṉṟōr māṟṟārai māṟṟum paṭai. (Transliteration) *Humility is the strength of the strong and the weapon The wise use to conquer their foes.* சால்பிற்குக் கட்டளை யாதெனின் தோல்வி துலையல்லார் கண்ணும் கொளல். (௯௱௮௰௬ - 986) cālpiṟkuk kaṭṭaḷai yāteṉiṉ tōlvi tulaiyallār kaṇṇum koḷal. (Transliteration) The touchstone of goodness is to own One's defeat even to inferiors. இன்னாசெய் தார்க்கும் இனியவே செய்யாக்கால் என்ன பயத்ததோ சால்பு. (௯௱௮௰௭ - 987) iṉṉācey tārkkum iṉiyavē ceyyākkāl eṉṉa payattatō cālpu. (Transliteration) What good is that goodness if it does not return good Even to those who cause evil? இன்மை ஒருவற்கு இனிவன்று சால்பென்னும் திண்மைஉண் டாகப் பெறின். (௯௱௮௰௮ - 988) iṉmai oruvaṟku iṉivaṉṟu cālpeṉṉum tiṇmai'uṇ ṭākap peṟiṉ. (Transliteration) Poverty is no disgrace to one Who has the strength called character. ஊழி பெயரினும் தாம்பெயரார் சான்றாண்மைக்கு ஆழி எனப்படு வார். (௯௱௮௰௯ - 989) ūḻi peyariṉum tāmpeyarār cāṉṟāṇmaikku āḻi eṉappaṭu vār. (Transliteration) The depth of goodness is said to be the never changing attitude In spite of ever changing fortunes. சான்றவர் சான்றாண்மை குன்றின் இருநிலந்தான் தாங்காது மன்னோ பொறை. (௯௱௯௰ - 990) cāṉṟavar cāṉṟāṇmai kuṉṟiṉ irunilantāṉ tāṅkātu maṉṉō poṟai. (Transliteration) The earth will cease to bear its burden If perfect men fall short of perfection.
