India’s 79th Independence Day 2025 Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra
Modi addressed the nation from Red Fort after hoisting the national flag on
the occasion of Independence Day. During his speech, PM Modi spoke about
India’s success during Operation Sindoor, farmers’ welfare and launched
multiple schemes. One key announcement was the new GST reforms, set to kick
in by Diwali and aimed at lowering the prices of daily-use commodities
across the country. PM Modi also spoke about Mission Sudarshan Chakra,
aimed at increasing safety and developing a more powerful weapons system
for the nation’s security.

Longest ever speech by PM Modi: Delivered from the ramparts of Red Fort, PM
Modi delivered his longest ever Independence Day speech, extending to a
duration of 103 minutes. This was the longest speech delivered by any Prime
Minister in India’s history. PM Modi, during his speech from the Red Fort,
hailed the efforts of the armed forces during Operation Sindoor, and also
gave a stern warning to Pakistan, saying that India will not give in to
nuclear blackmail. Further, PM Modi launched a new scheme called Pradhan
Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgaar Yojana to promote employment, and spoke about
Mission Sudarshan Chakra to boost India’s defence security.

Chakra Mission

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “We have chosen the path of Lord
Krishna’s Sudarshan Chakra. India is launching ‘Sudarshan Chakra Mission’…
a powerful weapon system that will not only neutralise the enemy’s attack
but also strike back.”

“Government to set up high-powered demographic mission to deal with
challenge of demographic change due to infiltration,” PM Modi said at Red
Fort.

PM Modi said, “Regions earlier known for naxalism now producing world-class
athletes.” He added, “Areas earlier known as ‘red corridors’ of Naxalism
have now become green corridors of development.”

PM Modi says infiltrators are snatching the rights of our citizens, “our
country will not tolerate this”. “No country in the world will ever
surrender in the hands of infiltrators,” he added

PM Modi mentions Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in his I-Day speech,
says, 100 years ago, an organisation–Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh– was born,
“it will continue to inspire us.”

PM Modi said, “In the last 11 years, we have worked tirelessly for national
security. We have been successful in bringing change.”

PM Modi says diversity should be celebrated, advocates equal importance to
every language. “We should take pride in different languages spoken in the
country.”

PM Modi expresses concern over problem of obesity rising in the country and
urges people to ficus on fitness. “Obesity is a rising concern in the
country. We should aim at reducing it.”

PM Modi said, “Farmers, livestock keepers, and fishermen are our top
priorities. Any policy that threatens their interests, Modi is standing
like a wall against it. India will never compromise when it comes to
protecting the interests of our farmers.”

PM Modi said, “Farmers contribute a lot to our economy, they have made
India top producer of several commodities.” He also said, “Two crore women
have become ‘lakhpati didis’ in no time, several are seated in front of me
at Red Fort.”

Govt is launching today, August 15, Rs 1 lakh crore Pradhan Mantri Viksit
Bharat Rojgar Yojana, under which the government will provide Rs 15,000 to
youths getting jobs in private companies. It is expected to provide jobs to
about 3.5 crore youth, says PM Modi

PM Modi announced the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana, set to be
implemented from today itself. Under this scheme, all first-time job
seekers will get Rs 15,000 from the Centre after they land job in the
private sector. The government will also give incentives to companies for
creating more jobs for freshers.

PM Modi announces next generation GST reforms by Diwali, to reduce tax on
daily-use items

PM Modi said, “The government will bring Next Generation GST reforms, which
will bring down tax burden on the common man. It will be a Diwali gift for
you. The new GST reforms will bring down the taxes for daily-use items for
all Indians.”

PM Modi said, “Need of hour to take a resolve for building a ‘samarth’
(strong) Bharat, just like our freedom fighters had envisioned ‘free
India.” He added, “Want our traders, shopkeepers to display boards for
‘Swadeshi’ products”

Narendra Modi says: “… Viksit Bharat ka aadhar bhi hai Aatmanirbhar Bharat…
If someone becomes too dependent on others, the very question of freedom
starts to fade… Aatmanirbhar is not limited merely to imports, exports,
rupees, pounds, or dollars. Its meaning is far broader. Aatmanirbhar is
directly connected to our strength…”

PM Modi said that he has full faith in the youth of the country to make
India a developed nation by 2047. He further said, “Let us explore ways to
develop our own fertilisers that our farmers need.”

'Daam kam, par dum zyaada'

“Daam kam, par dum zyaada,” says Modi which he explained as our products
should be cheap in price, but should have high in quality.

During his speech, PM Modi urged India’s youths to develop the country’s
own social media platforms. He further called for development of indigenous
jet engines for ‘Made in India’ fighter jets.

“Solar panel, raw materials for electric vehicles, everything can be made
in India. With full confidence on youth, we had demanded our own Covid
vaccine, CoWin portal, and we had all of these. We need to stick to that
spirit in being self-reliant in every sector,” says PM Modi.

PM Modi said, “Countless people sacrificed their lives for Independence,
spent their entire youth in prisons, and dedicated their lives to breaking
the chains of slavery… ‘Gulami ne humey nirdhan bana diya, gulami ne humey
nirbhar bhi bana diya… Mere desh ke kisano ne khoon paseena ek kar ke desh
ke ann ke bhandaar bhar diye’…”

PM Modi said in his address to the nation, “A big part of the Budget is
spent on importing oil, petrol, and diesel. If we weren’t dependent, that
money could have been used for my country, for farmers, and for the poor.
But we are working on becoming self-reliant in this aspect.”

“We are working towards being self-reliant in space sector. We are making
efforts in building our own space station… 300 startups are working only in
the space sector now,” says Modi as he refers Shubhanshu Shukla’s space
journey.

PM Modi said, “We have decided to make India self-reliant in energy; taking
several initiatives in solar, hydrogen, nuclear sectors.” He also said that
India is on track to launch its deep water mission soon. Speaking about the
recent SpaceX-NASA-ISRO mission, PM Modi applauded astronaut Shubhanshu
Shukla and said that now India is self-reliant in the space sector as well.

“We have to be self-reliant in critical minerals, too and we are
progressing towards that,” says Modi.

“As the world thinks about Global warming, India had decided, we will set a
target of 50% clean energy by 2030. However, thanks to the responsible
Indians, we have already fulfilled that target in 2025,” says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that nature is putting everyone
to the test, as he offered condolences and expressed solidarity with those
affected by recent natural calamities, including landslides and
cloudbursts, in the country.

“Nature is putting us all to the test… In recent days, we have witnessed a
series of devastating events, landslides, cloudbursts and numerous other
calamities. Our heartfelt condolences and solidarity are with those who
have been affected,” the prime minister said.
