The thing about A R Rahman is that he thinks he is not getting work because
he is a Muslim and not because his shelf life is over……. A phenomenon every
creative EVERY person faces.

Not even Amitabh Bachchan lasted more than two decades. Neither did the
legendary R D Burman. In fact Burman died a broken man, with literally no
work.

Same phenomenon was faced by Sonu Nigam, Subhash Ghai and now even Arijit
Singh is looking past his peak. Look at even Shreya Ghoshal and how many
songs per year she was singing in 2010s and how little she does today -
Shreya and Arijit are still in early forties (while Rahman is nearing 60).

But why is it that only Rahman thinks that it is his Muslim identity, and
not the mere fact of life happening, that has affected him?

Why is it that Rahman can be so proudly hypocritical to take money from a
film which he then also trashes for being divisive?

Why is it that Rahman feels absolutely kosher in lambasting India in a
conversation with a Pakistani Muslim?

The questions are many but think deeply and the answer is the same.

Unless we stop treating Muslims as special category, legally and
constitutionally, why will Muslims not think of themselves as special?

Add to it the global narrative, India’s fifth columnists, closeted Jihadis,
Umma indoctrination and Congress politics - this being ‘social’ breeds one
more thought - of entitlement.

That somehow they are entitled to be treated differently - superiorly -
than rest of the citizens. Hell, Manmohan Singh even said so - that Muslims
have the first right to resources of India.

What Rahman has said is actually a reflection of that same mindset - that
somehow he is entitled to more and how dare the Hindu majority (that is
what he meant when he said communal
Mindset of last 8-10 years) deprive him of his due.

As long as the “special” constitutional regime exists - instead of a
uniform citizenship construct - we will continue to see Muslims peddling
victimhood at first drop, after enjoying a lifetime of accolades and
success.
