Daksha’s  daughters Other Notable and Lineages

Timi: Frequently substituted or added inthe Bhagavata Purana. She is the
progenitor of all aquatic life, including whales, sharks, fish,
andwater-dwelling creatures.

Kastha: Mentioned in the Vishnu Purana. She gavebirth to solid-hoofed animals
(like horses) and beasts that do not fit into thetwo-hoofed category of her
sister Surabhi.

Simhika: In the Mahabharata framework, she islisted directly as a wife of
Kashyapa. She gave birth to Rahu and Ketu (theshadow planets responsible for
eclipses), as well as a fearsome line of Asuras.

My note- Mostly one may recollect Navagrahasloka for Rahu at this time

Kala & Danayus: Listed in the epic accounts asadditional daughters. They gave
birth to  various specialized tribes of powerful Asuras, giants, and atmospheric
entities.

Aditi's Penance andthe Birth of Light

The Prayer for Divine Light: Distressed by her children’sdefeat and the literal
and spiritual darkness of the world, Aditi performed severe penance toappease
the supreme cosmic energy. She prayed for a son who couldpierce the darkness
and destroy the Asuras.

The Manifestation of the Eternal Light: The supreme manifestedlight of the
universe responded to her prayers and entered her womb.

The Radiant Beam: According to legend, during adisagreement, Kashyapa once
questioned her rigorousfasting while pregnant, fearing she would destroy the
egg (Anda) in her womb.

Aditi cast out the glowing womb, which emitted an unbearable, blazing beam of
light. From this unhatched egg came Martanda(meaning "born from a dead egg"),
who later manifested fully asVivasvan—the Sun God.

The Establishing ofSunlight

Upon his birth, Vivasvan assumed his position in the sky, creating day and
night. His blinding radiance and intense heat instantly burnedaway the darkness
and weakened the Asuras, restoring the cosmic balance and therule of the Devas.

My note-. Daksha married 27 daughters to moon. How Moon was born was not told
–So a query was raised

Birth of Moon

The birth of the MoonGod (Chandra / Soma) is explicitly detailed in Hindu
scriptures, but it happened through a completelydifferent lineage before he
married Daksha’s daughters.

Because Chandra was born three separate times acrossdifferent cosmic
cycles—earning him the name Trijanmi (the thrice-born)—his origin aligns
withthe timeline of his marriage to Daksha's daughters.

How the Moon Was Born: TheThree Births

The Matsya, Brahma, and Agni Puranas reconcile the presenceof the moon through
three distinct origin accounts:

The Mind of Brahma: In the earliest stage of creation,Chandra first emerged as
a mental son (Manasaputra) of the creator god, LordBrahma.

The Tears of Sage Atri: In a later cosmic epoch, Chandrawas born as the son of
the great Sage Atri and his devout wife Anasuya.Overcome by deep meditation, a
brilliant, glowing tear of pure light fell fromAtri’s eye. This divine light
assumed a physical form and became Chandra.

The Churning of the Ocean(Samudra Manthan): Because his initial radiance was
toointense for the universe, his spirit was later immersed into the cosmic
ocean.During the great churning of the milk ocean by gods and demons, Chandra
wasreborn and rose out of the waters alongside his divine sister, Goddess
Lakshmi.

The Reconciliation: The 27 Daughters as the Lunar Path Daksha Prajapati did not
marry his 27 daughters to a newly createdcelestial object, but rather to an
existing, fully manifested deity. This marriage serves as a profound allegorical
explanation for astronomy andtimekeeping.

The Nakshatras (Constellations): Daksha’s 27 daughters are the personifications
of the27 Nakshatras (lunar mansions or star clusters) in Vedic Astrology.

The Moon's Orbit: The narrative states that Chandra promisedDaksha he would
love all 27 sisters equally. Astronomically, this describes theMoon's synodic
orbit, where it spends roughly one day with each constellationas it travels
across the night sky.[Chandra's Nightly Orbit]

The Legend of the Moon'sPhases

The marriage directly explains why the moon changes shape.According to the
Shiva Purana, Chandra broke his promise of equality andfavored Rohini above all
others, spending all his time with her.

Jealous and neglected, the other 26 sisters complained totheir father, Daksha.
In afit of rage, Daksha cursed Chandra to wither away and lose his brilliance.

As the moon began to vanish, the world's tides, vegetation, and natural rhythms
started to die.

To save the cosmos, Lord Shiva intervened. He could notentirely lift Daksha's
curse, but he modified it so Chandra would wane for 15days (Krishna Paksha)
andwax for 15 days (Shukla Paksha). Shiva then placed the crescent moon on his
head to protecthis life force forever.

My note- Natural doubt arise from the above, that Moon was there before Sun. A
clarification was sought

Appearance of moonbefore Sun

According to puranas Moonwas originally born as mind born son of brahma. Moon
wasgiving light. No dayand  night.

Sun was born to Aditi later. Then only sunset and moon risestarted.

cosmic timeline resets(Manvantaras), thethree distinct births of the Moon, and
the evolution of the cosmic order.

1. The Concept of Different Manvantaras (Time Cycles)

The Puranas do not describe a single, linear timeline;rather, they
explaincreation as a series of repeating cosmic cycles called Manvantaras and
Kalpas.

The First Creation (Mind-Born Era):

In the early phases of creation (such as the SvayambhuvaManvantara), Lord
Brahma created the universe entirely throughhis mind (Manas). Inthis pristine
state, entities like Chandra (the Moon) were born from the mindof Brahma or the
tears of joy of his mind-born son, Sage Atri.

During this initial epoch, cosmic laws were different: the celestial luminaries
provided constant,ambient, gentle illumination.

There was no strict concept of rigid "day andnight" or physical rotation
because the physical layers of the universewere still in a subtle, spiritual
state.

The Later Creation(Chakshusha / Vaivasvata Era): As the universe grew denser
and advanced into latercycles, the cosmic order had to be systematized.

It is during these later periodsthat Aditi (the mother of the Devas) gave
birth to the Twelve Adityas (solardeities).

Only when the sun gods took their definitive structuralpositions did the strict
mechanical division of sunset, sunrise, and lunarphases become established for
mortals.

"Moon"before the Sun was not a cold, reflective rock, but a primordial, liquid
energythat had to be completely remade once the Sun was born.

According to the Vishnu Purana and Matsya Purana, duringthe initial wars
between the Devas and Asuras (before the Sun was born), theuniverse fell into
utter darkness and chaos.

The original Moon lost its independent luster and dissolvedinto the Cosmic
Ocean (Kshira Sagara), becoming completely dormant. The sky went pitch black.

The Sun Was Created First toPierce the Darkness

To fix this absolute darkness, Aditi gave birth to Surya (theSun).Surya was the
firstactive, permanent source of cosmic light (Tejas) fixed in the sky.

His intense heat burned away the darkness and established thedaylight.

The Moon Was Reborn toReflect the Sun

Only after the Sun was firmly established in the sky didthe gods and demons
churn the ocean (Samudra Manthan).

When Chandra was pulled out of the ocean during thischurning, his nature had
fundamentally changed. He was no longer an independentlight source.

The Vayu Purana and MatsyaPurana explicitlystate that the reborn Moon's
illumination is Sushumna—which is the specificsolar ray of the Sun that
nourishes the Moon.

The scriptures literallysay: "The sun's light enters the moon and makes it
shine."

The Marriage toDaksha's Daughters Happened After Sun and Moon  Existed

Daksha Prajapati's marriage of his 27 daughters (theNakshatras) to the Moon
happened in the Vaivasvata Manvantara—the cosmic epochruled by the Sun's
lineage.

By the time the Moon married the 27 constellations, thecosmic hierarchy was
already set:

The Sun was the supreme source of light. The Moon was thereflective repository
of that light, passing through the 27 stars every month.

So, the  logic is 100% correct. The Moon we seetoday—the one that reflects the
Sun and changes phases—could only functionafter Surya was born to provide that
light.

My note- I am actually thrilled howchronologically the information are told in
our epics clearing doubts which mayarise at a later time. Moonwas mind born son
of brahma at one time is a new information to me
