I've had Vallisnaria spiralis (at least I think it's spiralis - I got
it before I started keeping track of what I had gotten) in my tank for
over a year. It's always grown like gangbusters no matter what idiotic
thing I've done to the tank. When doing my weekly cleaning/pruning the
other day, I noticed a string-like thing that was coming out of the
base of one of the plants and was all kinds of wound around
everything. After carefully untangling it, I realized it was a flower.
I had no idea that this plant even flowered. The flower isn't much to
look at though - about a 1/8 in. diameter green "bud" on the end of
about a 3 1/2 ft. long string-like stem. Who knew? (Well, someone else
in this group probably knew...)
